Nokia N97 gets a 15% price cut from Amazon
Sure it hit the street less than a month ago but that’s plenty of time to rope in the early adopters when it comes to hot new high-end handsets. As such, Amazon.com has just dropped the price on Nokia’s new flagship handset to $599.99 with free shipping; still a bit high for some but definitely inching closer to attainability. While this isn’t the best advertised price we’ve seen thus far for the Nokia N97 — Nokia USA had it on sale for $594 late last month — it is the lowest total price including taxes so far. Any takers?
Also of note: Amazon.com dropped the price of the N79 to $300 lining it up with the 5800XM and E71, and the N85 is currently listed at $330. All are unlocked of course, including the N97, and waiting for your SIM card of choice.

lame-O
no one would ever buy this piece-o-crap even if it’s price is cut by 50%… it’s still not worth the frustration when u receive your fancy-piece-o-crap
Nokia needs a new OS. S60 is crap, people need to realize, there is a new generation of mobile OS now and people can’t stay in the old mind set of “if its not broken, don’t fix it”. Innovation is key and Nokia needs to start.
I bought it two weeks ago. No frustration at all. Great fun and huuuuge relief after years on blackberry. Never again any berry. I feel as if I could breathe again.
They seriously need to drop the price to $499… The 32gb internal storage was a stupid move since they could have easily slashed the price by lowering the internal storage and just having you use a larger SD card.
I’ve had my N97 now for a week and I like it a lot. Sure, it has bugs, but so does every device at first, and Nokia’s already sent a FW update which fixed some of those bugs.
It’s really quite ridiculous that gadgets, of all things, have now turned into such a political issue, and especially since Apple joined the game, there are all these evangelists who are just quick to declare “Nokia/RIM/Android/Samsung/Windows/whatever sucksss!” based on no or very little actual experience with the device.
I don’t buy my gadgets based on what Gizmodo or Engadget write about them, and definitely not based on what BGR writes about anything. The N97 is not for everyone, and if you have your mind set on the iPhone already anyways, then what the heck – just go for it – and don’t waste your time writing rants. I like the N97 for what it can do, and for how open it is, and will keep it for a long time.
grr, this is lame but anything tour related is earth shattering?
599.99?? AWESOME BLOSSOM!!!
@ok Thank you for saying that! Those are my sentiments exactly.
thats a nice price cut but still too high for me to switch over from my n95 8gb.
Hopefully if it goes down another 100 or so will jump on it.

Amen brother. Most of the people writing here has no experience with nokia phones, specially the N97.
Apple fanboys? Maybe.
nokia haterz? Definitely.
I love Nokias; this is great. I agree with the above poster; a bunch of Apple and RIM fanboyz here don’t hate on Nokia. Good quality build, solid OS with a lot of apps; that’s why they’re the world’s smartphone leaders.
I have been using an iphone for a year now. I got a n97 a few days ago, and I must say i am rather enjoying it. There is a tradeoff of slickness for functionality. My biggest worries were the screen responsiveness and the keypad. And I find both to be great on the N97.
You know, as much as this phone’s not perfect – if it falls to $400, I’d snap it up in a heartbeat.
Bought this piece of crap two weeks ago! NEVER AGAIN another Nokia phone to this household! Piece of crap! Read gizmodo review of this crap before you even think about wasting your hard earned dollars on this piece of junk!
N97 is not the piece-o-crap,rather the apple iphone is
Crapple iphone.
Symbian based smartphones are not for everyone, nor for someone that does not want to learn anything new.
Nokia hasn’t been important in the U.S. since the mid 90’s when all you could buy is the little bar phones that were one of two choices… the symbian OS is just not practical anymore. Apple, BB, and even windows mobile are far more functional. And yes I have played with this phone… if you want you a touch screen with a keyboard don’t even bother with this is
Yes i was at nokia flagship store hoping to see a miracle every time they put out a rediculsly priced n model, but my experience with nokias after 2003 has all been very bad.
I was a die hard nokia fan, i used to own 3 6800s, before that i had that matrix style phone that i loved so much….till they totally lost the lead in innovation and device capability. I ditched it then for windows mobile and rejected iphone thought its prob more of a cult than anything.
Untill one day that i got an ipod nano as a gift, realizing how superior it is to other crap-o mp3 players i have used, The nano has made me wanting to really try an iphone and see what it has to offer. and Before i have time to reject the iphone, it has already got my heart set. Yes i own a bb and a wm and also my iphone, and i used to own nokia but not any more and prob not for a while till they spend time on design rather than stagering price tags of their not-worth-it phones with toy CZ lens. Why bother have a tiny ccd sensor cam when u can get a decent olympus evolt…
Newegg.com offers same deal, free shipping
I hate fanboys… blind loyalty to any brand is pure stupidity.
With that said:
Yeah… I wish this phone was more in the $400 range. I upgraded to the iPhone 3GS 16GB for $400 because the 32GB one was $100 more. That extra $100 more didn’t meet the “wife acceptance factor”.
She only allowed the 3GS purchase because I was selling the 8GB 3G.
I’d love to try out these Nokia flagship phones but $600 is a bit much still.
It’s a shame Nokia smartphones haven’t been able to break into the US market.
As interesting/exciting as the N97 might be…$600 is just stupid expensive for a phone IMHO. Yes, I realize that an unsubsidized iphone costs that much (or more)…and I counter with the fact I haven’t bought one of those, either. As many have suggested…once the price gets down to $400-ish, I’ll take a serious look. Until then, no sale. My N95-3 works just fine for now.
I am really trying hard to stay loyal to Nokia. I’ve always had Nokias and was really excited about this phone. I received (my first) N97 at the end of June. I had read about the numerous bugs and was prepared to deal with them. I installed emoze for email and it worked well. The problem was, when it synced my contacts, they appeared in the contacts without a voice tag. So when I would try to voice dial by saying a contact name, none would work. I decided to contact Nokia. After a short while on the phone with them, they suggested that I restore the factory settings by inputting *#73…#*. Before doing this, I backed up my settings and contents. I put in the code, the phone reset itself and everything looked ok. I then tried to restore my settings and the phone just displayed a blue screen with a clock and four empty widgets. Nothing would work (including the keypad) so I couldnt redo the factory reset. Fortunately, I purchased the phone from Amazon, so I called them, explained the situation and had a new N97 arrive the next day. I immediately updated the firmware, because it had just been released. I used the phone for two weeks and it worked pretty well, with the exception of a few bugs (default ring tone reverting to the Nokia Tune, which reminds me of Brokeback Mountain every time I hear it) and connection errors when I receive an incoming call, especially when I’m doing anything in the phone when a call comes in. Then, this morning, after charging the phone overnight, I discover that the phone will not turn on. I removed the battery and replaced it and still it wouldn’t turn on. Got back on the phone with Amazon and they’re sending a new one out. I’ll give it one last try Nokia, but this is getting ridiculous! The iphone is looking more and more attractive and I may just have to throw in the towel and get one if this new N97 gives me any trouble whatsoever (I’m almost certain it will).
