TELUS launching the BlackBerry Tour and HTC Snap on July 15th, Touch Pro2 on the 21st

It looks as if July is shaping up to be a pretty good month for TELUS subscribers — how does three hot new handsets in one week sound? One of our ninjas just hit us to let us know the carrier will apparently be launching both the BlackBerry Tour and the HTC Snap on July 15th followed less than a week later by the HTC Touch Pro2 on the 21st. So far the only pricing we have is for the Tour and the Snap, which will go for $249.99 and $29.99 respectively on 3-year contracts. As for the Pro2, unfortunately pricing has yet to be entered into the TELUS system. We’re doing our damnedest to get more details but in the meantime you’ve got some decision making to do, TELUS subscribers.
Thanks, Bird!
UPDATE: We’re hearing $249.99 for the Touch Pro2.

@ ckeegan
duly noted don’t know how that one got by me
1 week away
it goes like this
TP2>>>Snap>>>Your Mom>>>Tour.
;]
LOL Well said.
@Maverick
dude, you are actually cracking me up on this one
Wow the Anti Tour Fan Club consisting of Maverick, ckeegan, & StevenGlansburg.
Floating around the forums looking for Tour threads.
Nothing to do other than post meaningless crude.
I’m gonna get my kids to look at your meaningless post to show them what happens when losers don’t get an education.
Holy Cow! Nerd fight part II
well Jihad I have 2 degrees, I have a good job plan on attending law school next year just bought a house I am married and have a child. But because I don’t like the tour I am uneducated hmmmmm. Also Since one of my two degrees is in computer programming I am going to try my hand at designing apps for my phone 3 guesses which one I have.
@ JihadJack
Actually, I’m not anti-Tour, it just makes no sense why someone would pay so much more, when a device that is nearly identical in specs (and superior in some aspects) is available for far less.
Plus, look at how many idiots posted “Tu-Tu-Tour” on every comment string, regardless of what the article was about.
I guess some Telus users might think a BB logo is worth $220. In my opinion, that’s insane.
@ckeegan
@Maverick
There’s only two reasons anyone would get a Tour: One the resolution of the screen on their current phone is QVGA (I currently own a HTC Touch and it sucks for browsing the web, Snap’s screen is the same res) or their just fed up with Windows Mobile (and I’m slowly getting there). Both the TP2 and the Tour are similar in specs and while BB OS 4.6 is a rehash of 4.5 in a way I think 5.0 maybe much better when it lands. As for Windows Mobile I HATE the way I works with its notification system. Building a ROM for the phone can get very frustrating rather quickly as well. I just need a phone with a hardware keyboard, a screen with >QVGA resolution and a fast stable OS at a price I can afford.
I’m an idiot.
Tu-tu-tour!!!
I’m thinking that the screen on my iphone is pretty good especially when I browse a website in a native browser and it loads. I was not a huge fan of windows mobile so again I went with the iphone and 299 for a phone that will also sub in as my ipod I am ok with that. I have no problem typing with the onscreen keyboard, I don’t see the benefit of a hardware keyboard, and when I put the keyboard in landscape mode it works really well.
@ Soul_Est
I have to assume you meant to make a comparison between the Snap and Tour, since you can’t really compare the Tour to the Touch Pro2.
As you said, OS 5 may be better for BB, but the same could be said for WM6.5.
Maverick: yeah I totally agree, they aren’t doing anything new or fancy, and I have owned 2 blackberries, they tried with the storm, but still it is one ugly (although functional) OS.
OS 5 was supposed to be a world of difference, yet it’s not, they are making email pretty and adding some functions, but overall same old boring barely customizable OS. (I hope something happens and I am proven wrong)
, but if they use the same team that came up with the strom, RIM is screwed. I can’t believe that clickable touch screen crap actually got released to market.
BB is great, so long as you’re a robot. and just want to get things done (that don’t involved the www). but the time has come to spice things up a little, RIM needs to hire a design team for their software, and stop allowing the engineers and programmers to make design decisions.
No WiFi on the Tour??? Are you freaking kidding me?? What a joke.
@ckeegan
Yeah I was comparing the Snap and the Tour.
WM6.5 compared to BB OS 5.0 does make them both look like useless upgrades.
@WazzuKirk
No WiFi on the Tour is a sad move though although I like the higher res screen…
Someone was complaining that ROGERS has bad phones? Hmmm you have had the BOLD now for what a year and a bit? I’d take that over the tour.
Let’s just say that Telus HSPA rolls out between October and early 2010, What speed if knowable will the service actually run at? and second, When will the “4G” “LTE” come in to play. Is there a rumor of what speed it might go?
the question boils down to.. do I buy the TP2 now or wait for the new network (3G or 4G)
Although I’m not with Telus, I wanted to give you my input.
I am buying the Verizon TP2 when it comes out, partially due to timing with the LTE rollout.
If I get the TP2 with Verizon around September/October, then I will be eligible to upgrade in two years. According to Verizon’s LTE roadmap released about 6 weeks ago, they plan to be LTE in 20-30 markets by the second half of 2010, and I’m assuming close to 50 by the time I’m eligible to upgrade. At that point, I think it’s safe to assume that generation of HTC devices will be LTE capable.
LTE is suggested to be capable of average data speeds between 8 and 12Mpbs.
@ Ckeegan, good in-site.
but new news and this is huge if it is true.
THE NEW TOUR AND TOUCH PRO 2 WILL SUPPORT THE NEW TELUS HSPA NETWORK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
THE CSR first said it was so, and
I was like “I REALLY DON”T THINK THAT”S THE CASE”
and she was like “WELL I REALLY DO THINK THAT IS THE CASE”
and I was like “WELL NO ONE ONLINE THINKS THAT IS THE CASE, AND CORRECT ME IF I AM WRONG BUT THE HSPA ON THE PHONE IS ONLY FOR EUROPEAN BANDS ISN”T IT”
and she was like “I REALLY DON’T THINK SO WE ARE RELEASING THESE PHONES SO PEOPLE CAN ALREADY ACCESS THE HIGH SPEED DATA WHEN IT ROLLS OUT, BUT LET ME DOUBLE CHECK WITH OUR SUPPORT TEAM”
…….. “HELLO, GRAEME,”
“Hi”
“YES SO NO DOUBT WHAT SO EVER, THE NEW PHONES WILL SUPPORT THE NEW NETWORK, ABSOLUTELY NO DOUBT”
and with surprise because I was expecting to have my hopes crushed “YOU’RE ABSOLUTELY SURE”
“YES I AM ABSOLUTELY POSITIVE”
me: “THAT’S AWESOME, so will I be able to get any credit towards a new phone”
her: “actually yeah, if you just extend your contract by 1 year you’ll get $150 off any new phone”
then, my body quivered (yeah, you know what I’m talking about). and I promptly relieved my self… FROM THE CONVERSATION!! so I could spread the good news.
@Graeme
Thanks for clarifying that we would be able to use the Touch Pro 2 and Tour on the new network. All I need to do now is check on the Snap and see if it supports the new network as well. Hopefully I can get that new upgrade credit as well.
Tried checking into the Snap but the rep I talked to (via 611) didn’t know as his department wasn’t told about it (won’t know until launch day). Will have to wait until the weekend to see whether or not the Snap will support to the HSPA network (should work though).
Soul_Est, did you by any chance verify again with the rep about the TP2 and tour? it’s one of those things that I think service reps could screw up on. So I wouldn’t mind if anyone else can verify this.
right on the telus website!
COMING SOON

the official specs for the telus snap are out on htc’s wiki (ahead of time). No HSPA support (quad band gsm and edge) so lets hope the tp2 will have it.
ps. I know its been official for a bit now, but ever since the leak anyone could just go to any telus store and ask for the sku to be checked and have a confirmation that it existed. I did so myself:p
