purplera1n updated and improved, now supports Windows 7 and 64-bit

Although it only made its debut yesterday, the iPhone 3GS jailbreakin’ purplera1n has already been updated and now stands at version RC2. Changes include support for Windows 7 and 64-bit rigs, enhanced payload execution, kernal patches, correction of terminal errors and more. Support for Winterboard is still notably absent from purplera1n but every indication is that this is on the way along with OS X compatibility. For those who are running RC1 and want to update to RC2, getting it up and running is as simple as installing the new build on top of RC1. Once again, those who are running the OS 3.1 need not apply.

    Don’t like iphones anyways…but it sucks that people have to jailbreak their iphones. Once you buy the phone, should be able to do what you want with it. Its yours, not apples….

    @warhed,
    obviously you have never read license agreement of any of your devices. For most devices with a branded OS you don’t technically own it. While you may physically own the hardware, you only license the software. That is why Microsoft gets pissy when you hack the 360 or Windows Mobile even if it is on your device that you purchased. Its not just Apple, although ignorant apple haters will point fingers like apple is the only one doing it.

    So it’s like rent. You use and pay for the house but you don’t own it. You’re landlore may get pissed, however, if you build an undErground chamber and make it into a bar.

    Yeah iPhone is a nice looking device, but Apple’s Nazi policies towards ANY customization (just like OS X) is laughable.

    I hate what that company stands for.

    This sounds like the best of both worlds. We can use GeoHot’s solution until 3.1 debuts, then use the dev team’s method for the jailbreak. Seems pretty win-win to me.

    And since I was only holding off buying the 3GS until it was jailbroken… Yay!

    I like how ignorant apple fan boys always try and find a silver lining. The point is that u need to jailbreak an iphone to gain the ability to install apps that are not from the app store. BlackBerry and WM allow u to do this. Its ur phone u shouldn’t be limited to what u can put on it.

    You do own it and can do anything you want with it. Apple and the deathstar will only support the official configuration just like every one else including corporate IT products

    @ christopher cox.. wm actually condones home brew.. how do you think i have a final version of wm 6.5 on a 6.1 phone.. Ms just has the legalise so they can shut down people who cross the line.. They leak straight to the underground developers.. Thats why vera wang and half a dozen other world class designers made themes for a beta os.. And 6.5 works great i might add.. When android, and web os become more mature apple will change

    whatever I dont care what you all say. I love my iPhone. I love it so so much. I also jailbroke it today. Now if we could get one that winterboard will work with. I will just get the dev teams when they release the damn thing.

    Evilhomer says:

    God, this ownership thing is suck a stupid goddamn argument. We own the iPhone’s and can pretty much do what we want with it. If I jailbreak it, Apple no AT&T is going to take it away from me.

    However, they will only support the device with the OFFICIAL software. Just like most devices. Way back in the day I flashed my VZW Razor with the build from Alltel so that I could use bluetooth transfer and so on. VZW would not support the device thereafter. Nor will the carriers or manufacturers support the homebrew WinMo builds. And, as mentioned before, hacks to the Xbox, PS3, Tivo, etc.

    None of this EVER seems to be an issue till it involves the iPhone, then everyone cries foul.
