iPhone UI and Pre UI get intimate, birth new Meizu M8 UI

Meizu first got our attention by churning out a laughable iPhone ripoff and getting tossed out of CeBIT because of it. Ever since then, the company has been working hard to transform the Meizu M8 from a painfully blatant ripoff into a, well, slightly less painfully blatant ripoff. Fair enough. So our guess is around the same time webOS screenshots began hitting the web — coincidentally of course — Meizu began work on its new M8 UI. These images, according to reports, show the fruit of that labor. The new iPre UI, sorry Meizu M8 UI, and associated firmware update are rumored to be reaching market sometime this month or next, and won’t M8 owners be excited. Congrats Apple and Palm; imitation, they say, is the sincerest form of flattery. Hit the jump for more shots.

Thanks to everyone who sent this in!

    Looks pretty but the keypad in the calculator icon is laid out like a phone keypad and not like a calculator’s.

    Not too bad. They seem to have come a long way from the shit pile bootleg they once had/still have. The menu sort of reminds me of an updated Nokia UI on crack. Nice work though.

    @ HNIC

    They could improve on a lot of things…like unnecessary menus and a cluttered UI!

    If the phone gets the four-band treatment, multilanguage support, a soft qwerty keyboard [which, I suppose it already has though i haven't seen it yet] and a reasonable price, I’ll probably get one.

    @Palfrei

    The M8 phone is about about half price of an iphone($300 for 8g, no contract). It has multilanguage support, at least English. This new UI is rumored for Android OS(current is on winCE 6). The M8 has a better screen than iphone so it’s a great mediaplayer. However it has no 3g and reception problems.

    Your reference about them getting kicked out of the CeBIT because of the iPhone clone was wrong. They got shutdown for a little bit due to an mp3 codec patent infringement.
