Verizon has a change of heart, prepares to open BlackBerry Tour pre-orders to all

Following our post yesterday and the ensuing outcry, it looks like Verizon had a change of heart where BlackBerry Tour pre-orders are concerned. Are you a current Verizon Wireless subscriber whose spirits were crushed upon learning that pre-orders were only open to new customers? Fret not, future Tour addicts, as Verizon’s site is singing a different tune this morning. From the 9630 product page:

Existing customers will be able to upgrade or purchase the BlackBerry Tour on this site very soon. Please check back with us tomorrow.

Solid.

Thanks, Ben!

    They’re pulling this shit that if you get some kind of corporate discount on your plan you cannot preorder, you have to wait until the 12th.

    I’m fed up with the entire situation. Have you ever waited so long for something. And after all the rumors, delays and now having to deal with this pre-ordering crap, I’m sick of it! Verizon can take my money month after month for 11+ years, but they won’t let me pre-order the lousy
    phone. Forget it I’m done! All this for a phone that doesn’t have WiFi!!!!

    Done, through, finished……….

    bbkernel: First off my Verizon bill most likely is more than your mortgage payment. Second: For the amount I pay I don’t want to be treated like a second class citizen. Third: My mother died 10 years ago so I can’t wine to her!

    Thank you for your juvenile comments…….

    @Joe,

    I apologize if you took my comments personally.

    You are probably correct, your VZ bill is more then my mortgage. I know because I paid off my mortgage 6 years ago. I live in Hawaii and own a produce distribution company. I’ve been using VZ for 13 years and have always had my problems resolved in a timely manner. I too tried to pre order a tour online but couldn’t. So I called and I’ll have a Tour which I’ll be able to pick up at the store.

    Not once did I consider myself a second rate customer. I understand that because of the nature of my business account I wasn’t able to pre order via the web. So I did the next logical thing and called.

    At 34 years old I do consider myself a big kid. I have a lot of toys. So muaaaaaaaaa!

    Just ordered mine for $99 with $100.00 every two credit on-line. It makes no sense to go to a VZ store and wait in line to get the phone and then another long line to pay for the phone (and then to have to send the rebate in) I rather wait a a day to get in by Fedex, not to mention that some of the models are sent out earler than the store release dates.

    Has anybody that has a corporate discount been able to pre-order the Tour for an upgrade either online or via telephone?
    This is awfully annoying, but it definitely seems that some progress has been made here, which is a lot better than just waiting for the 12th.

    can you fill us in on the details of your order? what did you say to get the available upgrade? I am in a similar situation and all I got was a supervisor’s number to call back tommorrow for more details…

    @Jesse,

    I’m not sure what the others are doing. What I normally do is call my local contact. I have a contact person who helps me when I have problems. When I ordered the Storm for my wife he did everything for me. He calls me when the phone comes in and I just pick it up from him.

    When I tried to pre order the phone online and wasn’t able to I call him. I told him what I tried to do, he said that I should continue to call him when I want a new phone. That’s how it normally works for me.

    Jesse, I really didn’t say anything unusual. I explained that I wanted to pre-order the Tour, that I was unable to do so on the web site because I was an existing customer with a corporate discount. The telesales rep took my number, verified my last 4 (SSN), asked if this was for personal/corporate use, I told her BIS, and then told me I’d need to add a $30.00 data plan. I said OK, she had me listen to a terms of agreement spiel and came back on line to verify that I agreed with it. Said she’d call me when it shipped but to expect delivery on 15 July.

    I just confirmed that it is the corporate discount attached to my account that is blocking the pre-order. Since the discount that is currently on my account was from a previous employer, I asked the rep to remove this. She was able to have someone remove it immediately. She then also said she received confirmation from another rep this was, in fact, why I was unable to pre-order. She asked that I try again without the discount on my profile and I was able to successfully pre-order the tour.

    Hope this helps.

    I just spoke to a sales lady on the phone and she said that the people with corp discount can’t upgrade to the Tour now. She said there’s a problem with their system and there’s no resolution date yet. She said just keep trying online until it works…..I guess I’ll wait then.
