Verizon has a change of heart, prepares to open BlackBerry Tour pre-orders to all
Following our post yesterday and the ensuing outcry, it looks like Verizon had a change of heart where BlackBerry Tour pre-orders are concerned. Are you a current Verizon Wireless subscriber whose spirits were crushed upon learning that pre-orders were only open to new customers? Fret not, future Tour addicts, as Verizon’s site is singing a different tune this morning. From the 9630 product page:
Existing customers will be able to upgrade or purchase the BlackBerry Tour on this site very soon. Please check back with us tomorrow.
Solid.
Thanks, Ben!

I have spoken to Verizon 4 times since Tuesday. They are Greedy, pure and simple. I am a renewing customer and cannot upgrade. Completely unacceptable. Verizon made a big gesture by saying, “new customers are more important than existing ones. We have them and they are old sofa chairs.”.
I m switching carriers.
Does anyone realize that the weekend that this comes out is exactly the same weekend(depending on area of the country) that all Alltel stores close and the transition will be finalizing?
Not to sound preachy but the stores are going to be busy like Black Friday for weeks. Do you really want to wade through long wait times if you can just preorder the thing and have it waiting for you at home?
wow i really need it,and i am eagerly waiting for it.
im gettin pissed off. why is it not working for only some people?? verizon needs to get their shit together asap.
It should be really a nice phone.it just for me.
FIX THE DAMN SITE VERIZON
It is still not working for me. I also have a corporate discount plan.

You: Can existing customers pre-order the Tour yet?
Troynette: No, I’m sorry.
You: I have read posts that people have been able to. It is not working for me
Troynette: We’re having website issues as far as existing customers trying to order the phone.
You: It seems as though people with Corporate discounts have been unable to pre-order and those who don’t are.
Troynette: Existing are not able to period and new customers are.

Chat InformationYour chat session has been ended by your Verizon Wireless online agent.
By the way. who names their child “Troynette”?
FYI: After successful upgrade order yesterday, I just logged in into my family plan account and tried to upgrade phone on another line – it shows me BB Tour Pre-order. So for me it is working right now. ( VZ web site definitely has problems, [Upgrade phone] link sometimes redirects me to the root page.)
P.S. I am in New York city, regular family plan.
Signed into MyVerizon and the Tour is not listed anymore. Either this is a sick way for Verizon to create excitement, or they want us to go to the Apple store this weekend.
For current subscribers, it appears that:
1) The website Tour upgrade feature doesn’t work if you’re on a “PDA plan,” per a phone rep. In other words, if you’re not now on a BlackBerry plan, the site can’t handle the upgrade because you have to “change plans.” (I have a Windows Mobile phone now.)
2) And phone reps can’t handle the Tour upgrades yet, saying that it’s only available online.
3) However, the phone reps are supposed to have the capability by Monday or Tuesday, per a rep who “took my info” and promised to call back on Monday.
Hope this helps someone.
I talked to a Verizon rep this morning, and pre-ordered the Tour with NO problems. I’ve been a Big Red customer since ‘01, so people who are having trouble just aren’t trying very hard (or at all). Tour is still listed, though it won’t be listed in the group of ‘$50 off’ Berries.
With my upgrade discount, I ordered it today @ $149.99 ($269.99 – $50 upgrade credit – $70 MIR). The only part that sucks is having to get the rebate via MIR, and not instantly.
i ordered mine online yesterday also everything smoothly just make sure you are logged into your verizon account when you try to purschase the phone, I payed full retail for the phone which was 489.00 total cost with tax came out to 532.86 hope this helps
I’m an existing Verizon customer (with a company discount) who couldn’t upgrade via web. Chatted with Troynette this morning, asked for a phone number to upgrade (Telesales @ 1-800-256-4646) and was able to upgrade using a $50 New Every 2 discount. Tour cost me $149.
did you already have a blackberry? i heard only people with existing blackberry’s can preorder cause you dont have to change your plan
you get the rebate instantly if you pre-ordered it online
Just upgraded to mine online…finally!!! They told me the same as what others have stated above…I had to adjust my plan first to be “right” for the Blackberry (I had a Treo) and then the Tour appeared as an option in my upgrade list.
Yay!!
I’ve been with Verizon when it was the old Airtouch days. The telesales rep said online sales only. When I go to MyVerizon the phone is not listed anywhere!
I started with a Pearl and now using a Curve…..
I’m located in the state of (confusion) Washington.
Any ideas?
Yes im an existing costumer and i wasn’t eligible for and upgrade to had to cough up full retail price for the phone
To [linnyd]:
I did not have Blackberry(or any other smartphone) and was able to upgrade yesterday.
>did you already have a blackberry?
>i heard only people with existing
>blackberry’s can preorder cause you dont
>have to change your plan
apparently troynette is the name of choice for verizon, i am on the phone as i type this and they are telling me because of my company discount i cannot pre-order the tour…
All,
Blackberry Tour order for pre-order existing is working now.
For linnyd,
No I did not have a data plan. Upgrading from an LG VX8300. I did not get a company discount (normally 20%) however just the New Every 2 discount of $50.
Here is a soluntion one person used:
“I went to the store and had them drop my discount for me. When I got home I was able to log in and there in my list of upgrades was the Tour. You can just go and re-submit your info to your company and have them reprocess your corporate discount for the following month. You will have to pay full price for the time before it goes through, but to me it was worth it. I was able to pre-order and finally I can say the the Corporate discount plague is over! Hopefully this helps some of you…….”
it doesn’t work, period. they just put it up there to shut people up.
