Verizon has a change of heart, prepares to open BlackBerry Tour pre-orders to all
Following our post yesterday and the ensuing outcry, it looks like Verizon had a change of heart where BlackBerry Tour pre-orders are concerned. Are you a current Verizon Wireless subscriber whose spirits were crushed upon learning that pre-orders were only open to new customers? Fret not, future Tour addicts, as Verizon’s site is singing a different tune this morning. From the 9630 product page:
Existing customers will be able to upgrade or purchase the BlackBerry Tour on this site very soon. Please check back with us tomorrow.
Solid.
Thanks, Ben!

Great news! Especially after having read this on Gizmodo and getting immediately pissed:
“Verizon customer service rep “Alexis” (who refused to provide me with her last name) stated that existing contract customers may not even be allowed to upgrade to the Tour when it’s released. She said that such customers will be notified when upgrades are available, but that she does not know when that may be, and it could be well after the phone’s July 13th release date.”
yay for vz subscribers
FIRST!!!!!!!
first
Damn!!!! SWEEEEETTT!!! Time to pre-order!!
Seriously? Can I be 1st too? Cool for vzw, still waiting for somethin on att…
Has any existing customers pre-ordered yet? let me know, I need it nowwwwww, im wearing out verizons site with the reload button
i want the TOUR now!!! where are all the COOL reps that send you your phone early???
That should be a really nice phone. It makes me very anxious for the Onyx on At&t.
interesting reviews on vzw website:
folks who haven’t even touched the phone are leaving reviews. eg:
Great phone with a great feel. Can’t wait to get my hands on it considering crackberry.com has been bragging so much about it!!!
BGR was wrong to post their article yesterday. The website simply said that current customers weren’t able to pre-order “at that time.” It was never verizon’s intention to limit pre-orders to new customers.
oh no….what is everyone going to complain about???????
it would have been extremely foul of them if they didnt……..

If existing customers have to wait until 07/13 for the phone to ship anyway, what’s the point in “pre-ordering” now, Verizon?
i’m sure it was because of BGR…like Verizon higher ups read this site…
I called it. Knew it had to happen, too many loyal subsribers were getting unhappy about this.
well, many customers call in and say this n that site i saw this n that. just yesterday some1 posted a long copy of a chat he had with a VZ rep, and he specifically mentiond BGR, so they know about it. yes!
long live BGR!
whooo hoo cant wait
@joeTOUR
where is that chat posted???
Cool.
They were stupid to do this in the first place. This turnaround by them is too late to keep me. I just signed up to try Sprint for the Pre. Sprint works well in my area so it might work out and VZ will lose a 10 year customer. Dumb asses!
is the verizon link not working for anyone else right now?
@Mike, are you serious? because you couldn’t pre-order you switched to sprint? a little bit of an overreaction i think.
it’s just me.
@ grrrr
for the benefit of the readers and you, here it is.
On Jun 30, 2009 @ 10:06 am, ur doing it rong Said:
pre -order not available for current vzw customers
here’s a copy of my Live Online Customer Service response:
You: I have a blackberry and would like to pre-order the tour
You: but it wont go through
You: either i get to the end and it asks me to transfer/new phone number from other provider
You: or if i go to My Verizon and do upgrade my phone it isn’t listed as a choice
Cassandra: Are you a new customer?
You: no
Cassandra: You can not order the new phone as a upgrade at this time.
You: but there is a pre-order
You: available
You: the pre-order is only for Non-Verizon customers?
Cassandra: Correct.
You: wow
You: thats pretty shitty
You: im a custoemr almost 10 years
You: havent renewed my contract
You: could have gotten an iphone
You: have been waiting for this
You: thing
Cassandra: I am sorry about that.
You: and now ur going to give non customers first shot
You: i could get a palm pre on sprint
Cassandra: I am sorry, that is how it is set up at this time, I am not aware if it will be changed it just came online today.
You: u should let them know
Cassandra: They are aware.
You: people are gonna be pissed. all the cell phone nerd blogs are gonna pick this up.
You: i’m gonna post this on boygenius
You: i should have better things to do, but whatever
Cassandra: I understand. It is rather silly if I may say so myself. You are not the only one who has these feelings.
You: yeah
^^ at least now all that is history, thank goodness as big red got a change of heart. but the point is, they are getting feedback from customers who are getting informed through blogs like the BGR, so there you go, at least an “indirect” consequence of reading BGR.
