Zer01 Mobile launches nationwide

If you’ve always wanted unlimited voice and data on the smartphone of your choice but VOCE disappeared before you could jump on board, Zer01 Mobile might just be the way to go. After all, $79.99 per month (up from $69.99 when the service was first announced) gets you unlimited voice (MoIP), data and messaging on AT&T’s data networks and an extra $10 gets you unlimited international calling to around 40 countries. The only catch is that Zer01 has to install its proprietary software on your phone (or you can purchase a device from the company itself with software preloaded) because it uses data networks for all connectivity. This means that voice, not just data, is also carried through the data networks — yay MoIP. Zer01 assures us that its call quality doesn’t suffer when your data connection is weak thanks to the proprietary technology it uses. Right now Windows Mobile phones are being supported but BlackBerry, Android and other OSes are going to get support soon. Lastly, there are no contracts involved as the service is entirely prepaid. Interest piqued?

Except its not REALLY available… their website looks like zer01 is a middleman for MVNOs, and is not offering any products to consumers.

Looks like it is $70 to the MVNO and there is only 1 MVNO right now that chargers $80. Still seems cheaper if you don’t use many minutes or SMS to go with T-Mobile. Plus, they don’t have android support.

I’m dying to try it out, but it sounds way too good to be true. They say within a year they’ll be able to have any GSM device on their network.

Eh, I think I’ll pass on this as I already have unlimited minutes, data, and messaging on T-Mobile for less than $90 a month…

Nice try though Zero01… I’m sure someone will find your services useful.

I think this could work as long as call quality is good. My experience so far with internet-based calling has been frustrating… What? What? I can’t understand you!?…

Why would voice over a data connection be any worse than voice over a regular cell connection? Doesn’t a cell phone essentially convert voice signal to a data-equivalent connection anyway?

This Zer01 mobile people look fony to me, 1st of all they never return phone calls. 2nd of all, how can the main website not have the details on how to suscribe to their services. These and many more reasons scare me about these guys
I was very anxious when i heard about them from CLark Haward from CNN, but now…i’m scared to give them a try

Its not MVNO. They don’t resell airtime. They have their own software and just use AT&T to piggyback their data.

This will match up with Blackberry’s upcoming 8520 nicely. Of course they need to get busy on writing the software for that platform but I could see some people going this route.

This is the dumbest idea I’ve ever seen. VoIP over EDGE? We know how crap AT&T’s 3G network is – holy crap. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! I can’t stop laughing.

I give this company 6 months before they go under from being idiots.

I have inside knowledge about the company (I am not employed by them, this is not an official statement from the company). The article is severely understating what it is. Zer01 spent many, many billions of dollars on this. This is a high bandwidth fiber optic GSM data carrier not a reseller. The actual available prices are, $79.95 domestic (which also includes calls to several countries, when the calls are made from the USA, will be at least 5 countries that I know of, in a fairly short amount of time). $89.95 ($10 bucks more) for international calling to 40 countries (also, when the calls originate from the USA). Here comes one of the good parts, the rates include all taxes and fees. No contracts. They have unlimited everything. Certain phone models will be able to stream HD out to your HDTV. It also includes tethering to your computer for free high-speed internet. It also includes 6-way video conferencing on supported phones. Zer01 also bought the rights during the recent TV transition for the 2100MHz frequency, allowing them to have data speeds of up to 180megabits per second it’s called 3G+ (I don’t known real world speed). They have a lot of proprietary technology that allows them greater speed than everyone else, even on the other carriers networks (the phones check once every millisecond for the best possible signal). No data caps or acceptable use policies (truly unlimited). If you are a independent distributor you get $10 per customer, per month, for life. My phone will be free. There is so much more it would take me over an hour to type it all. Cell phone access will not be available to the public until they are done training the distributors, current word is absolutely not earlier than August 15th. I will be using it by the end of the month. One more thing, they are so confident in their service that all the phones they sell are unlocked. They have many phones and brands that will be available fairly soon (not right away at launch). They are also working with manufactures on designing new cell phones with technologies in them that could never have been supported before on other networks. I almost forgot the service is called Buzzirk Mobile (they provide the phones). The distribution part is handled by Global Verge I would provide you with a link to my distributor site with all of the info, but I think that would be inappropriate. So find your local Buzzirk Mobile Independent Distributor. This will not be available in stores (unless we personally sell it to private cell phone stores). The official site doesn’t have all of the information yet because it is not yet open to the public, so watch for updates and nicer sites. Here is the official link for the, fairly plain, pre-launch Buzzirk mobile site.

Since all connectivity is through data there will be reduced coverage since there are plenty of more rural areas that do not offer good data coverage (if at all).
