Verizon BlackBerry Tour Unboxing
Well boys and girls (and especially CDMA BlackBerry-lovers), your much-awaited BlackBerry Tour launch date is getting closer and closer. To try and make it easier on you, we’ve got our hands on a retail Verizon BlackBerry Tour and put together a quick unboxing for you. Part 2 of our popular BlackBerry Tour review will be coming soon, but in the meantime, couple sneak peaks:
- The battery door isn’t all glossy anymore which was scratch city. It’s got soft-touch rubber on the outer part and the inner part is a carbon-fiber material. Really, really sharp.
- The dark chrome bezel which is also found on the BlackBerry Onyx looks stunning on the Verizon Tour.
- The device comes with a BlackBerry leather holster!

“The screen on the 9630 looks great. It really looks like a plasma display with a glass lens over it. Colors are rich, sharp, and images are crisp. One thing we don’t like is the bezel around the screen. The Bold and 8900 LCD basically goes right up against the outer case of the handsets, yet with the 9630, there’s a black bezel around the LCD. We would have loved for the screen to be a tiny bit bigger because as it is, the Bold is still reigning champion of BlackBerry screens, if only for size alone.”
Looks pretty bonerific I’d buy it if I had verizon.

When will you do a Sprint unboxing?
It displays AT&T as the carrier, because BG will have an AT&T sim card in it. It is a “World phone” after all.

What OS does it run?
Is the GPS totally unlocked so I can use it with Google Maps, etc?
FYI…its the Bold that says ATT, no the Tour.
@Jeff – all the VZW BlackBerrys after the 8×30 have the new 7xxx GPS chipset which (IIRC) is capable of AGPS and standalone and doesn’t rely on the E911 servers for position. The 8130, 8830 and 8330 (on VZW) all have a 5xxx GPS chipset that requires PDE credentials which are only available to members of VZW’s developer program.
I logged into VZW site, I can upgrade to the Tour w/camera and w/o camera.

you’re an idiot. It’s obvious the picture with 2 phones illustrates the difference between the Bold & Tour. The Bold is on the left. Notice the size difference. No, notice EVERYTHING you idiot.

I have never owned a BB on Verizon but am planning on buying it when it comes out. Is the GPS locked like on many other Verizon smart phones or can you actually use BB Maps app?

if any1 could tell me which way it will be faster to get phone. preordering or when it comes out. A a couple of verizon representatives online said that its the 12th is shipment day so they may not be in the stores that day. Its just the day they become available the preorders wont be shipped out till the 13th

I was pointing out that the Tour pic here looks less on the dark side then the one that it showed somewhere else (-check the above link).
