Sprint to launch BlackBerry Tour on July 12th, $199.99

Still wondering why we steered clear of that July 20th rumor? Sprint has made it official folks, the BlackBerry Tour will be launching with Sprint on Sunday, July 12th. Pricing lines up with Verizon at $199.99 after instant rebate but there will be a mail-in rebate of some kind to deal with. More info as it comes in — Sprint still hasn’t issued an official press release.

i have a Sprint BB. voice is OK, but then again this is 2009. 3G coverage is crap. even in NYC/Manhattan i end up roaming a lot of times and data won’t work in roaming mode. at least that’s the way it was set and i don’t want to change it in case my employer gets charged.

if it wasn’t for my iphone and AT&T i’d go crazy

Is Sprint’s coverage that bad in NYC/Manhattan? Their coverage map shows it as excellent. Does anyone have issues in NYC/Manhattan surrounding areas?

I have been a happy Sprint Customer in the Houston,TX market for the past 3 years.

I used to be a happy ATT customer until Cingular bought them and changed various policies.

No carrier is perfect. At my home, both carriers have solid signals. At work (20th floor in Galleria area), ALL users get bad signals, even near windows.

I am not conjoined at the hip to a particular phone brand or carrier. Over the years, I have had them all except Verizon (Airtouch back in the day) and trust me when I say you shouldn’t choose a carrier for the phone available as the main reason.

The Sprint hate, ATT love and Verizon bashing it typical of a thread/article on BGR (and crackberry). Sprint Thread= iPhone loyalists and Verizon users spouting “But it’s not an iPhone, it’s dated, what about the network”.

I am all for free speach, but if you do not have a dog in this fight (interest in new Sprint phones), why pollute the comments section?

    @What???

I have Sprint in NYC and it is far better than AT&T service, though not as good as Verizon (or so I’ve heard). I had a Bold on AT&T for about 4 months and went absolutely nuts trying to connect calls or get fast data service. Switched back to my old 8830 on Sprint and have had much better service. That being said, there are a few dead spots downtown where I’m on a roaming network, but otherwise I’m usually good to go with Sprint, especially versus AT&T.

Thanks for the info. I work in NYC and can’t imagine an area as large as NYC Tri-State area to be bad for Sprint. I read that this is one of Sprint’s main areas. I’m out of contract from AT&T and thinking of joining Sprint.

one time i got out of the train on 6th and 23rd, walk down to 12th ave was full of deadspots where i got 1X instead of 1XEV. in queens i cross a street and roam, walk a few blocks and back to Sprint again. in LIC in the Citibank building one side is 3G and the other side is roaming.

my iphone got EDGE on 12th and 26, but walk a block and back to 3G. my wife’s 3G iphone i now get 3G service in the basement of my building after some AT&T upgrades. with the 3G S it’s still a little flaky and i go from EDGE to 3G. with my Sprint BB it’s 1X so no data which is crap since i have 5-10 minutes of sitting around waiting for the washing machine to go from pre-wash to when i have to add detergent that i surf the internet to kill the time

    Gustavo says:

You AT&T fans are stupid. Your Bold can’t even compare to the Tour. Don’t be jealous and hating on Sprint cause we have the best and most powerful BlackBerry coming to our network. AT&T has the worst call quality and their 3G network sucks. It’s so unreliable and slow is most places, if it even works. Sprint 3G network is way better. As for stats, go check them out at rim’s website. The Tour is way more powerful than the bigass bold and has better resolution, more capable, and faster. Chew on that. AT&T is a joke. That bold has lots of problems too i’ve heard. You just can’t compare to a good ol CDMA phone. Verizon is the biggest network and has the most subscribers and guess what their network is? I’ll tell you this, it isn’t no damn GSM.

Oh I also forgot to mention to you fags with AT&T. Why don’t you get on YouTube and watch some videos or watch some TV on your phone? Oh yeah, I forgot…you can’t cause AT&T screw all of yall in their new policy…sucks for yall. Why don’t yall switch to a real provider. Cheaper, faster, more reliable, stable, and even cheaper… It’s a no brainer… Unless you’re a dumbass AT&T fan. I used to have it…it’s nothing special. Sounds like you’re talking in a tunnel or something all the time. Of course you idiots wouldn’t ever know cause you’ve never had anything else.

I had sprint many moons ago. I am happy with Tmo and what they have done the past year plus. Sprint is solid, I never had an issue with them the 2 years I had service with them. Vwz And Att are the worst carriers period, and the biggest crooks.

Sprint is the gay child of cell phone companies. Its the one that parents won’t talk about because they are ashamed of how pathetic their child is, just like we are all ashamed of how pathetic sprint is…But on the bright side they are better than Verizon
