Sprint to launch BlackBerry Tour on July 12th, $199.99

Still wondering why we steered clear of that July 20th rumor? Sprint has made it official folks, the BlackBerry Tour will be launching with Sprint on Sunday, July 12th. Pricing lines up with Verizon at $199.99 after instant rebate but there will be a mail-in rebate of some kind to deal with. More info as it comes in — Sprint still hasn’t issued an official press release.

Don’t know if that kind of tactics would ultimately save this company, but you’ve got to applaud the effort they put in to stop the bleeding. Bravo!

    because i said so says:

I love my ‘Berry, but BG is right, and the Tour is a great example. I get a few new phones a year, and when I do, I want to feel like I just got something “new”. Pre feels new. Android feels new. Hell, even WM 6.5 (looks like it would) feel new. The OS on the Tour feels like a skin I could buy for $1.99.

    Next, please.

Wow. Sprint is trying sooo hard to not let Verizon have all the spotlight on this one. Did they forget about the Pre?

I haven’t seen Sprint this aggressive since they launched Picture Mail circa 2000.

Way to go. I like it when carriers get competitive.

T-Mobile where is my BB Driftwood love?

    Signed patiently wating…..

well said Kenny817. Especially the ones who say that Sprint is a “failing company” or a company that needs to be saved.

Well, lets see. Amazon uses them for their Whispernet service to send books to thousands upon thousands of Amazon Kindle users.

What else, hmmmmm, they were first with 3G, and now with 4G.

I agree, probably none of them has actually HAD a Sprint account. Or if they did, maybe they had a bad experience or two — boo hoo…

Will this phone be unlocked like the 8830? Is it confirmed that the Sprint variant will most definitely NOT have wifi? About to go get a Pre, but want to stay with BB, so this might do the trick.

    Eric says:

I had Sprint for many years. Unlike other carriers, their service got worse over time and not better.

Very happy with VZW now (with the exception crippling their phones.

I have tried all of the major carries (AT&T, TMO, VZW, and Sprint). Where I live, VZW is by far the best for coverage and call clarity. TMO was my second favorite. Call clarity was very good, but coverage was lacking (seemed to get zero bars when I was in a couple of local restaurants). TMO made up for the poor coverage by allowing me to make calls over WiFi. Call clarity was good on Sprint, but lots of dropped calls. AT&T had by far the worst call clarity. Like listening to someone talking through a tin can. My girlfriend still has AT&T and I hate talking to her when she calls from her cell phone. Lots of static and dropped calls. Dreadful service.

I’ve been with sprint 7 years and haven’t had issues. I live in the DC metro area which always has great service, plus I’m on an HTC diamond. What is this malarkey about no new phones? They were the first to release the touch pro and the only service provider to have the diamond for MONTHS. They just released the Pre and are the only company to have the direct connect blackberry capabilities. Money wise its the best deal and whats that about some phones being crippled? Buy a damn Windows Mobile phone and put a custom ROM on it and stop your bitching!

    sprint4life says:

The coverage issue is over, cause most their plans now have roaming. Sprint has clearer calls, and such. Remember, the old Sprint commercials where they dropped a pin? Think about it… That was their claim to fame.
