It is strongly suggested you register your device online with Nokia and deal with them online for support. It’s excellent that way, and they really take care of you fast. Amazon is a vendor. Why deal with them for support? My N97 has none of these problems. Could be a faulty model. Not sure you want the cooking brick iphone over this device. its simpler, but not even close to as capable.

I am really trying hard to stay loyal to Nokia. I’ve always had Nokias and was really excited about this phone. I received (my first) N97 at the end of June. I had read about the numerous bugs and was prepared to deal with them. I installed emoze for email and it worked well. The problem was, when it synced my contacts, they appeared in the contacts without a voice tag. So when I would try to voice dial by saying a contact name, none would work. I decided to contact Nokia. After a short while on the phone with them, they suggested that I restore the factory settings by inputting *#73…#*. Before doing this, I backed up my settings and contents. I put in the code, the phone reset itself and everything looked ok. I then tried to restore my settings and the phone just displayed a blue screen with a clock and four empty widgets. Nothing would work (including the keypad) so I couldnt redo the factory reset. Fortunately, I purchased the phone from Amazon, so I called them, explained the situation and had a new N97 arrive the next day. I immediately updated the firmware, because it had just been released. I used the phone for two weeks and it worked pretty well, with the exception of a few bugs (default ring tone reverting to the Nokia Tune, which reminds me of Brokeback Mountain every time I hear it) and connection errors when I receive an incoming call, especially when I’m doing anything in the phone when a call comes in. Then, this morning, after charging the phone overnight, I discover that the phone will not turn on. I removed the battery and replaced it and still it wouldn’t turn on. Got back on the phone with Amazon and they’re sending a new one out. I’ll give it one last try Nokia, but this is getting ridiculous! The iphone is looking more and more attractive and I may just have to throw in the towel and get one if this new N97 gives me any trouble whatsoever (I’m almost certain it will).

@notafanboy, I think I’ve used 14 Nseries models and owned every Nseries flagship. But I’m sure I’m not an expert for it. The N95-3 was supposed to be subsidized by at&t, but never was launched.firmware updating was a fiasco, but that was an isolated experience. I usually avoid the NAM models anyway. They’re like the iPhone in that they’re only good on at&t,while the Euro models are good on 3G networks all over the world. In my experience, Nokia is good about updates. The N93 and N95-3 were exceptions.

Update not deployed in my region yet but looking forward to upgrade as I’ve noticed that the N97 was buggier than my N78. I’m quite disappointed though that they have no included UPnP-DLNA support yet like on other N-Series phones. Also back in January it was announced that the N97 was coming with Skype integrated in the address book. When is that coming?

Christexaport – have you ever owned a Nokia? Come on, let’s not be fanboys here. N95-3 firmware updates were delayed to the point of maddening frustration.

Nokia is quick to abandon updates for any phone they aren’t selling 38 million of a week.

I’m so glad people are so happy with their N97s. I have high hopes for nokias flagship. I just am waiting for TMo or ATT to start subsidizing it… I think its bunk that a 32gb smartphone could launch these days without a carrier jumping on board. Especially TMo, the N97 launched the same day as the 3GS both with 32gb offerings and not a peep from the 2nd largest gsm carrier in the states to give the largest a little speed bump…sad. NaziPhones suck.

Nokia is known for quickly upgrading firmware in its top devices, and even the US variants get to get in.

I think I got the firmware pretty early, around 3-00 am EST. As, far as I am concerned they fixed a big annoying thing the stupid lock thing is now fixed its great now. I am happy and I love it even more.
