CDMA HTC Snap / Ozone to get Windows Mobile 6.5 upgrade?

Folks who scooped up the HTC Ozone from Verizon Wireless or the HTC Snap from Sprint may be pleased to learn that an official upgrade to Windows Mobile 6.5 may be in your future. According to documents published on the Bluetooth Special Interest Group’s website, a Windows Mobile 6.5 variant of the HTC Cedar, codename for the CDMA Snap, has received regulatory approval. There are no additional details other than the CEDA100 moniker and the WM6.5 designation. With this handset being released so close to expected Windows Mobile 6.5 roll out later this year however, we can only hope HTC (and Sprint and Verizon) will extend this olive branch to early adopters.

I’ve never owned a WM phone and not sure how tech savy you have to be to make the HTC Ozone worth while? I currently have a touch VZW dumb-phone and want more from a phone. Mainly I want to be able to listen to MLB games and XM radio. Any advise would be nice…

HTC has little to do with whether we get an upgrade or not. It’s the carriers choice to either support it or not.

@ StevenGlansburg, I did buy a 2G iPhone when they first came out and could not get service inside my home in a surrounding city just west of Phoenix at that time. I’m pretty sure it is better by now (or hope so) and went back to Verizon. I’m looking for a way to get ride of my portable XM radio and combine it with my cell phone. I’m up for an upgrade and not sold on a Blackberry at the moment…

My HTC rep told me that the Snap (at least for Telus) will NOT be WM 6.5 compatible as to be 6.5 you need higher specs or something to that affect. Touch Pro 2 will be though

In the same boat, Castro, but I had absolutely no problem adapting to a WinMo phone. If you use a Windows PC with any frequency, this is not a huge adjustment.

I went from a Curve to a Pearl to an Ozone and I would never go back to a blackberry EVER.

Just picked up the ozone. Works great…not 100% intuitive, but it’s also not rocket science. My first windows mobile phone and I’m getting along just fine. I love it. the wi-fi is very helpful too. I set up remote desktop, which required some more advanced knowledge, but it makes life super convenient.

I just wonder how the upgrade is going to happen. I got a TP2 the day HTC sent them out, because I was told Verizon would offer the WinMo upgrade when Microsoft released it. Now I have no ties with Microsoft so unfortunately I have to wait until the OS is released to the public, but I understand the first WinMo 6.5 equipped phone will be released on wednesday through Verizon, so I assume the upgrade will be released then too. But I cant figure out how the upgrade will be issued. Some say it will be an OTA upgrade, but thats pbysically impossible since OS upgrades on phones terminate data connections, others say you’d have to bring it into a store. I just want to know! Anyone get any input from any of the companies Id love to know! If you have any idea how the upgrade will happen I’d appreciate an email, please! cjosiah@youcanbuyit.net

castro, I have an ozone and I downloaded an app called wunderradio. You can listen to any radio station that broadcasts over the web. I listen to sports, news and music all day with no problem.
