BlackBerry Tour pre-orders not available for Verizon Wireless customers looking to upgrade

Verizon Wireless confirmed today what a lot of excited and angry Verizon Wireless customers knew already — The BlackBerry Tour is currently not available for pre-order if you are upgrading your current line. It’s not a random ordering glitch or a problem with Verizon’s website as many initially thought. Front and center on the Tour pre-order page and stated in bold red letters is the ugly phrase, “Pre–orders not available for upgrade orders at this time.” Yikes. So what do you all think? Is it reasonable to let new customers have first dibs or a major fail that will alienate current customers to the point of revolt? As an aside, luckily many CS reps still have no idea what’s going on so there’s a good chance that if you put on your best Isaac Hayes voice and sweet talk the rep, you’ll be good to go. Let us know how things work out.

Thanks, Ben!

    @joeproblems.

thats exactely right. This phone releases on Sunday July 12. They won’t ship any pre orders until Monday July 13. That means you won’t get your phone until July 14. All your whining and bitching, get to a store and buy it there you will get it SOONER than if you pre order. If you actually read the picture up top that says pre orders will ship monday july 13.

This is the same thing AT&T did to the Iphone 3GS. I had one friend that was due for an upgrade and he could get it, but others that were due to upgrade in 4 months couldn’t unless they wanted to shell out the full-non-contract price.

@2sikk…U KNO..VERIZON HAS TO BE THE SMARTEST WIRLESS COMPANY OUT…they have the most customers, the best coverage…with all verizon gobbling up all the wireless customers around, its gonna b hard 4 other carriers 2 survive, especially when BIG RED GETS THE IPhONE NEXT YEAR…Sprint,T-Mobile AT&T are already struggling, and if it werent 4 the iphone AT&T would have been done a long time ago, don’t 4get BIG RED is the first 2 roll out 4G

i don’t know where you live but where i live this phone WILL be sold out in most Verizon store in my area due the large popularity of BB’s and the limited supplies Verizon (or BB for that matter) provides. I will keep my Omnia and be happy for know (Samsung is the only reason i stay with Verizon, anyway)

I mean, I’m not sure why people are even surprised anyway? All carriers place an emphasis on new customers. Always. My girlfriend physically walked into a sprint store to buy a Pre when it came out and they said “no..what we have in stock is for new customers. pay now, and we’ll ship you one”. As fucked up as it is, it ain’t new, and it ain’t just VZW. So quit your bitching, all of you.

There are many people who want to pre order this phone and pay full retail and they can’t, doesn’t make much sense. It’s not that big a deal cause we could just go to the store on the 12th but still sucks for existing customers. Verizon needs to treat us existing customers better.

i hope this is a glitch. if not, verizon seriously needs to rethink how they treat their customers. that along with their phone offerings (stale). get with it verizon. seriously.

the majority of upgrading customers are gonna get it cheaper than new customers because of vzw’s NE2 credit. what other carriers do that? who cares if you can’t preorder the thing?

    Zocchi21 says:

My NE2 is coming up at the end of July, so yesterday I tried the pre-order link, called telesales, and physically walked into a store to try to pre-order and none were successful. Pre-order link didn’t work, telesales and the store rep both said pre-order is only for existing customers. Damn you VZW.

I got screwed by an online chat rep who said in order to get the Tour I had to sign up as a new customer – then customer service would transfer the phone to my existing line and scrap the new customer info. Turned out to be BS – and now I have to decline the FedEx package with the Tour in it in order to cancel my new service.
Why do they make everything so difficult?!!?

Tour is for girls, and verizon is a network for queer sucking butt fuckers. So this phone will go nicely on vzw.

My friend and I both were able to get VZW to allow us to do upgrades on our phones and order the Tour. We went through Business Sales and not the regular telesales department.

I originally called telesales and they told me they could not do it and told me my friend must have been lying to me. When I checked with my friend she gave me the number she called which was business sales and evertyhing went perfect. We were both given shipping dates of the 13th and we will have the Tour on the 14th.

This is ridiculous. As a long time bb verizon user this greatly bothers me. Why should new users get the phone that we have been waiting for what seems like forever. While I will still probabaly go ahead and upgrade to the Tour, Verizon is really close to losing me as a customer. Attn Verizon: take care of your existing customers first, not the newbies.

also, i can’t see people jumping ship just over the tour to verizon (or sprint for that matter) if you are on at&t you have the bold or iphone…if you are on t mobile you have the curve 8900…and sprint is getting the same phone….bleh

Gee let’s see…..am I going to piss and moan about not being able to PRE-ORDER where i get it 2 days later or am I just going to go to an F’ing store on the 12th and get it myself???

    Think about this people seriously.

“@COCOViper…yea u could, and settle for HORRIBLE COVERAGE”

You fucking idiot, Sprint roams on Verizon’s towers at no charge to to their customers. Verizon’s coverage is our coverage too.
