BlackBerry Tour pre-orders not available for Verizon Wireless customers looking to upgrade

Verizon Wireless confirmed today what a lot of excited and angry Verizon Wireless customers knew already — The BlackBerry Tour is currently not available for pre-order if you are upgrading your current line. It’s not a random ordering glitch or a problem with Verizon’s website as many initially thought. Front and center on the Tour pre-order page and stated in bold red letters is the ugly phrase, “Pre–orders not available for upgrade orders at this time.” Yikes. So what do you all think? Is it reasonable to let new customers have first dibs or a major fail that will alienate current customers to the point of revolt? As an aside, luckily many CS reps still have no idea what’s going on so there’s a good chance that if you put on your best Isaac Hayes voice and sweet talk the rep, you’ll be good to go. Let us know how things work out.

Thanks, Ben!

    !!FAIL!!

As a long time VZW customer (due to coverage) I get sick of being treated like a second rate citizen (no pre-order for BB Tour) or an outright prisoner (no iPhone, no Android, no regard price competition).

Yet another nail in VZW coffin for me. I have been planning to make the jump to the dark side (iPhone) for a while. The fact that Verizon has crappy phones, and I won’t be able to get a Tour before I go on vacation cinches it.

Customer service still claims it is an error with their system and it will be fixed by tomorrow. Extensive posts at Crackberry related to this with some current customers being able to order via phone, although this may only be a CS rep writes your info down and enters it later kind of order. Extensive posts about it being an error as well.

Or you could just go to Sprint and get your Tour that way…and pay $50 less per month in the process!

I’ve been waiting to upgrade for four months waiting for the Tour and I find out I can’t pre-order. This is another epic fail from Verizon. It’s enough to make me strongly consider switching to AT&T for the iPhone if it wasn’t for the god awful data plan.

Why would you need to preorder this phone? It’s not a consumer device that normal people would get excited about like the iPhone or even the Storm.

So don’t worry. It’s going to be readily available to the 6 or 7 of you that are balls deep in Verizon.

I too was told that there was a glitch in the Verizon Wireless order entry system (as it pertains to upgrade customers), and that the CS instructions were to initially try to enter the upgrade order, and if that fails, to instruct the customer to try back on July 12.

@hugh walker you’re completely right. I’ll let all the idiots on here bad talk verizon.. But I’m sure I’ll be able to walk in one of the billion verizon stores in a five mile radius of me on release day and upgrade without a problem..

…..Wow, all this waiting and now we get to see what AT&T customers feel like……what a great bonus! Verizon has great coverage for certain, but this completely blows.

After 22 years with the same carrier, this is how they show appreciation to loyal customers………screw it, if I’m going to be treated like crap, I may as well get a cool phone so iphone here I come ;-)

Talk about Verizon caring for their customers. I mean DO they realize their customers OVERPAY for their service?? This is funny in a way, showing their true colors!

Guess I got lucky. I called telesales early yesterday after seeing this on BGR and the rep said its a glitch on the site and she processed my NE2 upgrade to the Tour. We now know it wasn’t a glitch, they just didnt want old customers yet. I can’t prove it actually got processed but when I log into verizon now it no longer shows me eligibile for the NE2 so I guess it took.
