BlackBerry Tour officially hitting Verizon on July 12th

We’re not sure how much doubt a person could have had before, but in the interest of being crystal clear, Verizon Wireless will make the BlackBerry Tour available online and in stores on July 12th for $199 with a two year agreement. You can preorder the device starting from this moment on.

Thanks, Stang68!

    @joetour

Have fun using wifi, free navigation, etc…

Of course that is just in the spirit of redundancy, since that seems to be the new thing for RIM, BGR’s latest articles, you and the handful of TourTrolls that clog up any given comment section on here.

I thought that the tour was the “curve with a touch screen” What happened to that?

2 questions: does any BB offered on Verizon have WiFi? Whats the big difference that makes the Tour an awesome phone – different from, say, the bold or the latest curve?

Dumbest move ever on BB for not putting WiFi on this device.

Does the Tour have free GPS/Navigation on it? Or is that another $10 you have to spend a month to get it?

Reasons tour is a nice upgrade for blackberry users:

    (much) Higher resolution screen.
    Faster processor
    More Memory
    Better Camera
    Rev-a 3G instead of Rev-0
    Updated OS

I know blackberry users tend to get a little excited, but this is a pretty big upgrade, especially from the 8800 series. Think about the iphone 3GS. Kind of the same deal right? Good upgrades, but not a game changer. And people were camping OUTSIDE for that one! So please everyone, relax.

    @Greg Kops

The tour does support GPS and will come with blackberry maps. For turn by turn navigation, you will have to pay $10 a month for VZ navigator (AFAIK). The sprint version of the tour will come with Sprint Navigation at no extra charge with the simply everything and everything data plans.

Its All The Same Crap says:

Those who say, “So what if it doesn’t have wi-fi?”… so no phone you have now has wi-fi? I know we all got 3G phones, but tell me none of you EVER jump on wi-fi when the opportunity presents itself. I don’t care what network you’re on, if you need to look something up and there’s wi-fi around, you’re jumping on wi-fi cause its FASTER.

But I get it though for the VZW BB fanboys… its exciting. The only reason people are talking some crap is because of all the dumb Tou-tou-tou posts (what is that stutter anyway? The time it takes to do a search on 3G vs Wi-fi??).

Shoot man… I HATE the iPhone and Sidekick and even those toys have wi-fi!!!

I am a Verizon Wireless customer and if you go to the website to upgrade your phone, it isn’t even listed as an option. Only new customers can pre-order this phone. I called Verizon to ask them, and they kept me on hold for 20 minutes, and finally came back to me and told me that existing customers can upgrade to the phone on July 12. What a load of bull.

    @Mike –

That is exactly what a rep told me today as well; existing customers, even those with New Every Two discounts available, cannot preorder the phone on their existing plans. Upgrades are only available to existing customers on the street date.

The whole GPS issue is none-sense. Go out and buy yourself a garmin, navigon GPS and save yourself staining your eyes zooming in on a tiny screen while driving. The cheapest of the above models is 100x better then the best on the best smart phone. So, steven, good luck with your buffering GPS and dropped calls, and by the time I’m finish writing here the subscriber gap of VZ/ATT will be 90 mill vs. 77 mill, thanks to the i phone 3GS.

    @ Patrick
Well, never mind. Why bother? All I’m going to get back is another fagget joke.

pre -order not available for current vzw customers

here’s a copy of my Live Online Customer Service response:

You: I have a blackberry and would like to pre-order the tour

You: but it wont go through

You: either i get to the end and it asks me to transfer/new phone number from other provider

You: or if i go to My Verizon and do upgrade my phone it isn’t listed as a choice

Cassandra: Are you a new customer?

    You: no

Cassandra: You can not order the new phone as a upgrade at this time.

You: but there is a pre-order

    You: available

You: the pre-order is only for Non-Verizon customers?

    Cassandra: Correct.

    You: wow

    You: thats pretty shitty

You: im a custoemr almost 10 years

    You: havent renewed my contract

You: could have gotten an iphone

You: have been waiting for this

    You: thing

Cassandra: I am sorry about that.

You: and now ur going to give non customers first shot

You: i could get a palm pre on sprint

Cassandra: I am sorry, that is how it is set up at this time, I am not aware if it will be changed it just came online today.

You: u should let them know

    Cassandra: They are aware.

You: people are gonna be pissed. all the cell phone nerd blogs are gonna pick this up.

You: i’m gonna post this on boygenius

You: i should have better things to do, but whatever

Cassandra: I understand. It is rather silly if I may say so myself. You are not the only one who has these feelings.

    You: yeah

^ the only reason they keep their 77 mill is because of the i-phone, it offsets the losses of reg (voice) subscribers. proof? the last quarter they activated 1.3 mill i-phones, and added 1+ mill customers. you get the drift here?

    JoeTour says:

    @ your doin it wrong

the only way to do it is to get the email addreses of the big shot execs there and get them to feel what a loyal VZ customer has to go through just because he wants decent service, and it almost looks like their enjoying it.

    Greg says:

Those of you who don’t get why people want a new VZW BB must be among the fortunate who live someplace where ATT/T-Mobile/Sprint don’t suck.

For places like the SF Bay Area, VZW is night and day better in much of the region than any of the others, and I’ve tried them all. I carry an ATT Curve and a VZW 8830, and coverage is vastly better on VZW all over the area.

Plus, for those of you who think ATT has great coverage, try taking your phone internationally, and you’ll see how the same phone gets much better sound quality/fewer dropped calls on Vodafone/Orange/Telstra, etc., than ATT.

Would I prefer to have wifi, etc., yup, but more importantly I have to have a phone that actually works. If I didn’t care, I’d get an iPhone.

VZW has f’in dropped the ball on this one…

I have been with them for over 12 yrs with the now wifes line (i started when it was Bell Mobile) and 10 years on my phone (20 person biz account)…

And they will only let NEW subscribers pre-order…What a bunch of bullshit…

Not saying i wont be in line like a tool on the 12th, but this is still bullshit…
