iPhone 3GS jailbreak imminent; first image unveiled

Ahhh, the Dev Team — where would we be without them? Just last week the crew issued ultrasn0w, making jailbreaking and unlocking your iPhone 3G as easy as finding a farting app in the App Store. But what about 3GS owners? As fast as the Dev Team works, a separate hacker by the name of “geohot” (the guy who made the first iPhone unlock as well as the injection vector for the first iPhone 3G unlock) has made a major breakthrough with the help of his friends at Chronic Dev. A little before 4:00AM this morning, George Hotz became the first person in the world to have a fully jailbroken iPhone 3GS (picture above). Now of course this doesn’t mean it will be released to the masses just yet, but it does mean we’re unbelievably close to lift off. Geohot ftw! Hit the jump for one more shot.

What makes you think its a 3GS ?

The picture you cant tell, and the screenshot has a date of May, 13th. 3GS wasn’t around then.

Only thing I see is a 3G with OS 3.0 that is jailbroken……

In the second screenshot, in re RELEASE_ARM section it clearly states the iPhone 3GS ARM processor, as well as the iPhone 3GS internal designation “iPhone 2,1″

Oh yeah, I forgot to say that I will be jailbreaking the 3gs for the video ringtones also.

    @ bob
t I think the reason why every1 thinks this is a 3gs is bc it says iPhone 2,1 on the screen also.

apparently you don’t do any research before you go mouthing off like a high functioning retard. George Hotz (geohot) has a blog where he posted this: http://iphonejtag.blogspot.com/

Also, the May 13th date is a time stamp for the Darwin iPhone kernel – 10:16 PM (22:16)is the time version 10.0.0.d3 was compiled.

People like you should only ask questions and not comment on things they don’t know about.

I don’t know why people think the Tour is going to be such a great phone. It fails compared to the iPhone. Give me a modern OS and Wi-Fi and then we’ll talk

I’m a WM fan but strongly considering a 3GS. I’ve never had a I(diot)-Phone. Once jailbroken can one un-jailbreak it to get future Apple updates to the OS?

    Chase says:

Yes you can unjailbreak your phone just simply restore it in iTunes good as new and no the tour will not match up to even the 3g I know we are all dissapointed somewhat because the 3gs had no physical changes but it is faster and the camera is pretty damn good but the appearance will change next year so no worries and as far as other smartphones go they are still trying to catch up to the 3g and please don’t come back with something lame like that your phone has a 5 mp camera because those extra mps don’t matter if your lens don’t accomadate them this is why ther is 100$ cameras at walmart with 12 mps and 1000$ cameras at the canon store with 10 mps so guys in closing do your homework before you post and just embrace the truth!

Why jailbreak? I thought they were perfect! I thought the problem with winmo was that you had to tweak it…aren’t you kids doing just that?

It would be funny if they can’t update the OS after jailbreaking.
