iPhone 3GS jailbreak imminent; first image unveiled
Ahhh, the Dev Team — where would we be without them? Just last week the crew issued ultrasn0w, making jailbreaking and unlocking your iPhone 3G as easy as finding a farting app in the App Store. But what about 3GS owners? As fast as the Dev Team works, a separate hacker by the name of “geohot” (the guy who made the first iPhone unlock as well as the injection vector for the first iPhone 3G unlock) has made a major breakthrough with the help of his friends at Chronic Dev. A little before 4:00AM this morning, George Hotz became the first person in the world to have a fully jailbroken iPhone 3GS (picture above). Now of course this doesn’t mean it will be released to the masses just yet, but it does mean we’re unbelievably close to lift off. Geohot ftw! Hit the jump for one more shot.

yes after jail breaking you can restore to a default (non jailbroken) software by just connecting it to itunes and restoring it. as far as updating goes, you update to the latest software then re-jailbreak after the update is complete.
@Bob
Your a retard, ppl like you shouldn’t own an iPhone..
Bla Bla Blackberrys are whaccccckkkkkkkkk!!!!! And and and android!!!!!!
ba ba ba bold is be be be better
than tuh tuh tuh tour
On on on onyx
That’s an iPhone 3G in the picture. Look at the back, below the labeling. iPhone 3GS’s don’t have all of the extra stuff below them. iPhone 3G’s do, though. Look closely and you’ll see it. Wonder why nobody else noticed that.
WRONG, yes they do. You can also tell its a 3GS because the writing on the back is a much more distinguishable chrome versus a very faded black on the 3G
If you build it, the dev team will break it as has been witnessed time and time again.

U u u u rrrrrr wrong!!! Android all the way!!! Blackberrys are so redundant. I don’t know why RIM is taking long to announce or release this hybrid they have the works. As for the dev team, nothing can stop them from busting open any iphone. Its amazing what they can do.
HA! BA BA Booey!
Funny!!
Just got backgrounder and cycorder on my 3G. So now I can easily listen to pandora and comment on the tours short comings such as lack of wifi and crippled gps all while listening to Internet radio.

call me ignorant if you want but what does it mean to have a fully jailbroken iPhone?
a fully jailbroken iphne is 10000 times better than a tour, also tour has no Wi-Fi, good luck to those people forced to have a data plan, hehe.
hack the planet geohot
I wonder if 3.0.1 is coming out so soon to address the heat issues?
Wifi is overated, it eats your batts quicker, and isn’t neccessary for a BB. For my Bold on Rogers, I use 3G when I’m using data, and switch to 2G when I’m not using it. It can last a few days without a charge with quite heavy usage. I never use wifi.
With data compression on BlackBerry’s, I don’t believe they need wifi unless you are constantly streaming radio apps, or watching youtube on ur phone, which screams loser imo. I think if you use your mobile device to the point that wifi is a neccessity ontop of a data plan, you really need to get a life (maybe there’s an app for that).
For an Iphone user, try to not use wifi for a month and see how much data you actually used on your bill.
Don’t knock a device just because it doesn’t have wifi. If Iphone’s didn’t have wifi, iphone users would still buy them most likely, so it’s really a mute point imo.
@ Len – just because YOU are a nobody and DONT travel abroad, YOU may not need it. but WE DO. MORON
yea dude, once jailbroken all you have to do is go into itunes after you plug your phone in and restore it. i work for at&t and i jailbroke my 3gs as soon as i got it… very against the rules but i did anyway.
