Still waiting on a Google Voice invite? This could take a while…

As impatient people craving access to Google Voice continue to wait for the arrival of that joyous invitation email, Google Voice head Craig Walker gives us a brief insight into just how long of a wait some users may be looking at. A short while ago, Walker tweeted that the team is currently working on invitations that have been pending since the days of GrandCentral before it moves on to more recent invitations requested since Google acquired the service. The clarify that time frame, Google snatched up GrandCentral way back in July of 2007 — meaning that if you’ve requested an invite recently, you’ve probably got a hell of a wait ahead of you considering the GrandCentral invite system was killed two years ago.

First!!
Are they doing these by hand or what? Jeez, the wait is killing me.

Whats up with the “First!” “Second!” bull shat? Post something meaningful or get lost.
tHiRd!!!1!! w00t w00t w00t w00t w00t
Any idea of a time frame though? A while as in a few weeks/months/years?
It will be a matter of weeks…
Wow. It sounds like they are going this manually…
I’ve had one for years now, since GC. Back then the consumerist.com ran a story about grand central with a link for sign up. It only worked from consumerist.com and I grabbed a number as did most of my friends who I alerted.
Ironically I haven’t used it much because I’ve been concerned about the stability of the entire thing, being in a perpetual closed beta state all this time and not knowing if Google would kill it off or not.
I wonder if re-requesting resets the date, I think I put in more than one request on the same email.
That was a bad idea.
I have had my number since GC first started handing them out. Unlike Weave, I have been using it actively ever since i got it. I was concerned when they got bought, but when my number continued to work, I eventually forgot about the whole bought by Google mess. Then Google went and upgraded me to GV and life is still good. It’s a great service, it works well, and is very reliable. It’s worth the wait people.
It is a great service I just don’t like how you can’t make your outgoing calls show up as your Google Voice number. I think this is the one thing that is holding me back from permanently switching to my Google Voice number. Being a professional I don’t like the idea of having clients call me on one number to reach my cell but receive a return call on a different number. But, I am glad I signed up for GC 3-4 years ago.
@prcullen are you sure you can’t make it come from your GV number? Check the settings.
@prcullen If you call your GV number first, you can place outgoing calls from it. If you have a blackberry phone you can get GVDialer which will do it for you
@007
Atleast you remember, I can’t remember if I signed up for Wave or GC.
I’m perpetually in limbo…
Completely agree. It’s the same problem Google has with using Gmail as a catch-all e-mail solution; as soon as you reply, all headers contain the infamous “on behalf of…” with your gmail address. Love you guys, but that’s gotta get changed…
I have GV…love it.
Just got my GV invite tonight. I had put in a request quite some time ago and even put in one for GV when they had their sign up open.
just got my invite let me see what all the fuss is about
After waiting, oh, about four decades (I think), , I just got my invite! They must really be rolling through the list.
I don’t want to upgrade my grandcentral number because googlevoice won’t allow ring share or free calls to canada so I am in a bind. I do have 1 invite left on my other GC line if anyone wants it let me know.
It’s a shot in the dark, but I would love to get that invite… jeffcrn (at) live dot com
I don’t know how many times I have checked my gmail account waiting for my Google Voice invite but I seem to have to charge my blackberry more frequently lately.
Put my request for an invite last night, in less than 24 hours I got an invite. Intriguing program.
Mr. Salty! Hook me up! Please? Let me know! ebdavis@gmail.com.
