Sprint eying HTC Hero and an Android-powered 4G Samsung handset?
Now before you get too excited about this, Sprint subscribers, know that we have to throw some annoying words/phrases at it first. Rumor, possible, unconfirmed, skeptical, grain of salt and so on. Right then… According to PhoneNews.com, Sprint finally has Android positioned squarely in its sights. First up, the company is allegedly in the midst of testing the HTC Hero with a planned release toward the end of this year. While we haven’t yet heard any rumblings of a CDMA version in the works, it’s certainly feasible and tough to completely count out. Secondly, the blog reports that Sprint is currently testing an Android-powered handset from Samsung as well — the key here being this little guy reportedly sports WiMAX and CDMA. Could this secret Sammy be the tri-mode WiMAX/WiFi/CDMA handset we heard about earlier this month? We sure hope so.

ya all you dipshits hoping vzw will eventually get all the good sprint phones are in denial so Dream on as you like but you won’t be seeing any Magic and you sure as ain’t gonna be saved by a Hero. As for Sammy’s 4G ya it’ll be exclusive since your precious vzw had to goto bed with at&t [which sucks big balls] which is building an LTE network.
I wonder what Andriod phones will be on Verizon within “the next 6 months or so” I’d like to see this one.
The rumor mill is in full swing. Don’t mind if add to it. I think the Hero will follow the path of the Pre. sprint for 6 months and then everyone else.
Maybe vzw will get it at the same time. Their CEO said that they will be getting android handsets later this year. Besides, sprint said it is testing it. It did not say anything about excusivity.
Also about the network, sprint’s network might be a close second but their financials are pretty bad. (Thanks to the ill conceived merger with Nextel. They have been bleeding custmers quite steadily.) Lack of retained earnings mean they cannot invest n their network. Their 4g offering is on clearwire’s wimax network. They will have to share the revenue.
I truly hope the htc hero comes to vzw and more than that I hope vzw keeps its nasty feature locks off.
Note: Was in sprint store today to try to cancel my service. Was specifically told that before my contract is up (dec 17 2009) sprint would be carrying an android phone from htc. Good news.
PS. Sprint customer service still sucks. Been dealing with them for the last 5 months. Issue still not resolved. Random charge to account still exists.
@Hunter
No, no it doesn’t…
Better yet, here is some justice. Nothing like proof of expirence right? You want the best Sprint CS, here you go:
877 775 4886
This # is what makes Sprint CS > trump any other crap AT&T/VZW CS (With the exception of T-Mobile)
Don’t abuse them but when in trouble, they make shit happen for you…
Supposedly the Hero and Instinct Q will be out between October and November
not entirely sure where some of you guys are getting your information about sprint and verizon but truth be told, while verizon has a rather small and unattractive selection on phones (because, to me, they seem so nervous about bringing new phones to their network for whatever reason) sprint has poor customer service and rather if-y service coverage. it will be a shame and a waste for the htc hero to go to sprint. I would rather see that phone go to at&t if it won’t go to verizon just based on how limited sprint is with their service compared to say, att or verizon. sprint is a fly by night company and it won’t surprise me if they get bought out by, say, oh I don’t know… Verizon for example??
I don’t know where some of you guys are getting your information about sprint and verizon, but I’m going to tell you now—although Verizon has a rather limited and unattractive amount of phones to select from (frankly, I believe it’s because they are so nervous about bringing new phones on board, for whatever reason they might have, Sprint has poor customer service, and rather limited and if-y service coverage. They are quick to rob from you and raise your bill, all without a valid explaination.
with that said, Verizon has a higher overall phone bill for similiar phone services Sprint offers, but they provide a more stable coverage, and do not limit themselves as much as Sprint does when it comes to some of their internet and phone options.
It will be a complete and total waste if the HTC Hero goes to Sprint. If it won’t go to at least Verizon, I would rather see the phone go to AT&T, since they are even more open with their phone options than Verizon and Sprint, combine.
Brad, you are the scum fuck that makes the internet suck!59TH!
@ Devil’s Advocate:
I don’t know where you get your information either….oh, wait, I know! You’re a troll, so you don’t really have any information. LOL
