And for those of you who are trying to compare it to the launch of the iphone app store, sure, they sold 60 million in the first month BUT they also had 3 millionish iphones sold at that point and they launched with over 500 apps.

Just look at the numbers…

On Palms end if you take 1 million apps sold divided by the 150,000 people that have the Pre that is approx 6 downloads per person.

And on Apples end if you take the 60 million apps sold divided by the 3 million people that owned the iphone at that time, that comes out to 20 downloads per person.

Let’s see here, which number looks better…. 6 downloaded apps out of 30 possible or 20 downloaded apps out of over 500 possible?

Come on guys, I’m sure you can do the math…

And … Pre fanboys, iPhone fanboys, Windows Mobile fanboys … they are all fanboys and get crazy at times. Pre fanboys get downright nuts, and there is nothing wrong with being a fan of something. I’m sorry but I can’t let you say that Apple innovated downloadable apps straight to your phone. I was able to download an ebay application to my nextel phone back in 2000. They also had many other applications like banking and stock market and weather apps. Also, when I made the move to verizon a few years later, they too had apps that were free and ones that you could purchase and download straight to your phone.

Apple may have created a more organized or eye friendly way of doing this but they definitely did not innovate downloadable applications straight from your phone. They simply branded a name for it and advertised the hell out of it.

Multitasking is a very minor thing. With my BlackBerry I limit the number of background apps using the radio. Why? Because JiveTalk in the background constantly keeping the radio connection open so it can receive updates EATS THE BATTERY. I am MUCH happier with IM+ NOT running and still being able to notify me. Saves on battery, and I can have more apps keep me informed. I can have TONS of apps inform me on iPhone, while on other platforms, running them all in the background keep radio active will drain battery, and eat away at RAM. 50 programs informing you? Can you do that in your platform efficiently? I don’t think so.

I live on a small island on the Chesapeake Bay and both Verizon and Sprint thought it was sensible enough to build small towers on the island. There’s one on each side. Towers that are small enough that nobody even knows they’re there. I have FANTASTIC service on both my Sprint work cellphone and my Verizon personal cellphone.

I am currently in the market for a new cell phone and would like to be able to upgrade to an unlimited plan with a phone that will take advantage of that plan. After doing the research there’s no way in hell I’m going to pay the amount of money verizon wants for their “unlimited” plan. Even after my 20% discount through work, it just sounds atrocious to pay that kind of money.

To me its simple economics: I also get special discounts at Sprint through my work. 20% off everything unlimited + Palm Pre for $99 after sprint mail-in rebate and $100 visa gift card for new customer sign up to Abound Systems(the sprint provider) + free Touchstone charger.

What would you do?

I mean honestly, I can remember having cellular one/cingular 10 or 11 years ago and I could get service anywhere I went but it just seems like ever since they became AT&T the service area has gotten smaller and smaller.

I’m not a fan. Just stating the obvious. If the phone doesn’t have signal what good is it? If I can’t afford to pay for verizon’s not so unlimited plan why should I get it?
