Windows 7…Everything vista was intended to be, But it actually functions correctly. Runs ALOT smoother. And way quicker!. Definatly was worth the price!

I have been using Windows 7 64rc now on my desktop which is about 4 years old or older with all specs up meeting minimum requirements except running with 1gb of ram and I find the the operating system very stable. I find it to be the first stable microsoft operating system ever and I have been through all of them.

Use the Microsoft Student Discount plan then. I picked up Office 2007 Ultimate for $59 that way and it is a legit copy from microsoft. You just have to have a .edu email address. Vista Ultimate is offered that way as well.

The Pre-Order pricing should be THE pricing…

$49 for home users and $99 for Pro users is reasonable, and would drive the adoption rates of Windows 7 thru the roof.

Glad I’m able to afford a macbook pro. Has everything build in, most programs are priced between cheap to free. OS upgrades are about $99.00 + tax.

Though the new sony vaio notebook priced @ $800.00 is a killer deal. Just the software reminds me of BB’s software, very expensive.

It’s not my fault Windows doesn’t make their own computers. Oh that’s right! They leave it to idiots like you to buy a piece of crap from HP that will break in a year. I don’t care who you are, everyone know that Apple produces superior hardware. I have bought 3 macs in 15 years that have never had any hardware issues at all. My brother-in-law has bought a new HP or Sony every year during that same period. Always because a drive failed or screen went dead. Now, who do you think has spent less?

Really Rufus? I bought my mac for 1200. Over a five year period which is how long the average computer lasts, subtract anti-virus software, and anti-spam software, easily at $75 US dollars a year, probably more. That is also not adding you having to fix your computer in that time from viruses.

Over a five year period, that adds up. That is 375 US dollars. Also add to the fact that Microsoft kills you on upgrades, $199.00 US. Compared to $29.00. That is $545.00. Now subtract that from 1200.

Now which is cheaper? Also less of a headache to own?

I think that giving XP and Vista users the same upgrade price is a bit of FU to Vista adopters and it would discourage people upgrading in the future. Although Microsoft has always been somewhat lenient and inclusive when it came to upgrade policies, it hurts a bit more this time because Vista was the first consumer Windows product that Microsoft pushed through fairly large price increases, and it wasn’t exactly worth the money.

And regarding Apple comparison, I do think their OS upgrade prices are far fairer (in fact, I can totally see them using it in their ad campaign). Yes, Macs are more expensive than PCs, but then the price difference isn’t all for the OS X. People are also paying the premium for the features, design, and brand. I doubt OS X is the only or number one reason for people choosing Macs over PCs.

So Vista users pay the same as XP users?!?!? That bytes!!! Folks like me that ponied up for Vista should get a better break!! After all, win7 is more like a service pack upgrade to vista.. How about $29 like apples upgrade to Snow Leopard…

I’d like to see a Windows7 family pack offered as well. I’ve got a couple Windows Netbook PCs (XP) and a couple Macs (running ‘virtual’ Windows XP as well). Maybe I missed this, but will XP Professional be upgradeable to Windows7? I thought that the early answer was NO, a full copy required. In any case, I really do enjoy W7 …

Another site ( I think it was gizmodo or engadget) has similar story, BUT…BUT…. the ultimate version is supposedly NOT included in the pre-order discount buys. The only ones that are included are the first two ( Home and professional). Sad for me as in my case I’m using Vista Ult x64, and happen to really enjoy the system. I’m using Win 7 Ult RC x64 on my laptop for right now, and it seems that it runs smoother than vista (that might just be me). That’s for now. I’m really interested in seeing the finished product.

So again, just my little 2 cents, if the other site is right, all those out there awaiting Win 7 Ultimate will/might be out of luck on this pre-order. Hopefully wrong, and they will include it, but let’s see.

I think Windows 7 should be a free upgrade to anyone that was conned into Vista or anyone who has since downgraded from Vista to XP. Seriously, Windows 7 is a friggin Vista bugs fix, are at least everyone hopes so…

After using Leopard for 2 years and with Snow Leopard on the way…. Microsoft had better put some polish on Win 7 for people to feel happy paying those prices, especially Vista adopters who had no choice.

If you only use Windows and you think you should stick to XP – well Win 7 is far and away better than XP. But I run Leopard and Win7 and Windows is still painful as hell to use, and I’m sorry to say but Mac stole the best new innovation (the garbage that is Aero peek) and turned it into a better Expose.

Upgrade your Windows, stop using XP, Win 7 is a necessary upgrade. But if you want to use a genuinely good OS – not just some bells and whistles added to a fundamentally crappy platform – do yourself a favour and switch to Mac.

The pricing isn’t too bad but it could’ve been better to compete with Apple’s pricing. As a TechNet subscriber I never have to worry about Microsoft software but I can definitely feel the pain for home consumers that had to deal with Vista – which wasn’t bad but it wasn’t great either.

Windows 7 is great and people who buy it will definitely be happy!
