Google Voice invites start flowing
Following a tasty spot with NBC’s Janet Shamlian on NBC’s Today Show this morning, it looks as though Google Voice has taken a big step toward wider availability today. According to GV’s Twitter account, invites are starting to go out en masse. Now, don’t start going crazy if you’ve registered for an invite and don’t see anything hit your inbox today — as Google Voice head Craig Walker notes, the waiting list is a bit lengthy to say the least:
About GV invites…there’s a pretty long list as you can imagine…will take a little bit to get through them all:)
In due time, in due time. Again, Google Voice was spawned from Google’s acquisition of GrandCentral — the all-in-one voice calling/voicemail management solution. The service provides, among other things, a single number that can be given out to contacts. When dialed, GV will ring any and all numbers you wish simultaneously — your cell, home, office, etc — and will transcribe and manage your voicemails as well. The service is free and it also affords users free nationwide calling (and cheap international calling). In a nutshell, it’s big time. Hit the jump to see the GV spot from this morning’s Today Show and hit your inbox with the hope that an invite is ready and waiting.
Thanks, Justin!

I just wish I could eBay off my 213 Los Angeles Grand Central number, because it would be great for a business.
Contact me and maybe we can work something out.
In-bound GV calls show the caller-ID of the caller. You do not know if the caller was a direct dial to your home/cell number unless you setup call screening. This prevents use as a Fav-5 number. Other wise how would you know who is calling?

You have the choice in settings to determine if your GC # or the callers number shows on your caller id
Anyway I have only used my GV Philly number a few times. Would be happy to give it up for a local number.

Good to know that I can set the inbound number to show GV # or callers ID. I have not logged into my account in over a year, but still get GV e-mails in reference to my account.

From the Google Voice Twitter Page:
Invites for Google Voice are going out, and our list is huge, so it will take a while to get though them all. Be patient. Thanks!
Only obvious but gives a feeling of just how intense the waiting list was/is/ will be LOL
BTW, has anyone else had the Notification from their Carrier to get rid of their Google Voice / Grand Central number in their My Faves or equivalent list. I have 2 on 2 Tmobile accts and 1 on a Sprint acct./ Never, ever, had a problem. Ive been with Grand Central since the beginning.
