TELUS rumored to be getting the iPhone in October

We typically shy away from wild rumors such as the one you’re about to read. Considering the information has been relayed by an individual with a pretty good track record with this sort of thing however, we’re going to report on it. With an extra spoonful of caution, that is. Word on the web is that Rogers and Fido don’t quite have the iPhone exclusivity deal in place we all thought they did. Apparently TELUS, currently a CDMA-only carrier, will be picking up the so called 3GS in October once it gets its upcoming HSPA network up and running. Just to be clear, we have yet to see any evidence to support this claim at all, meaning that for now it’s just one of those rumors that seems a bit too convenient. We’re not going to count it out just yet either though — it would certainly be a hell of a way for TELUS to get that shiny new HSPA network on the map.

Rogers never had exclusivity on the iphone.
Bell and Telus are jointly building out their HSPA network
It should be launched prior to December 2009.. October seems right
Bell will get the iphone as well
Coverage will surpass Rogers since its easier to do when two companies are splitting the bill..

a lot of u people dont have a single clue what ur talking about regarding telus network.

first off lte will be data only so all phones will need to be dual mode when they launch. this will be for the first few years.

second the hspa towers are at 100 meg compared to rogers 25meg.

next telus is putting up tons of towers to have SUPERIOR coverage than rogers. so some of u should stop talking out of ur ass if u dont have a single clue what ur talking about

Only time can tell. I have my serious doubts that Telus or bell are going t get the iPhone and that when Telus/Bell launches the HSPA network that it’s going to be all there towers nationwide. If they do I will be seriously impressed, however I seriously doubt the iPhone on telus LOL

More competition is better. Hopefully their iPhone offer will be enticing enough for me to switch over :)

Fido has become a joke in the past 5 years since Robbers started raping it..

Telus and Bell are currently expanding their EVDO network, building an HSPA network, and building a 4G LTE network.

They plan on splitting the $1 billion cost They plan on putting up more towers to acheive better coverage than Rogers. They plan on launching the HSPA network in September, ONLY in Vancouver and southern BC (location of the winter olympics). HSPA will be expanding to other major cities by the end of 2009, and nationwide by summer 2010. As for LTE, they hope to start rolling that out by the end of 2010.

I say this rumour is false. If and when Telus/Bell get the iphone, it won’t be untl summer 2010, when the HSPA network goes nationwide.

mangenius is certainly right when it comes to the iPhone on Telus and Bell, and I still wonder why there are still people talking about CDMA in this thread. They probably are still trying to differentiate their left from their right as well ;-)

As for celz, he beats them all : we have seen the iPhone and the app store compared to past failed attempts by WinMo or Symbian … but comparing an iPhone and the store to the “SideKick-teenager-wannabe-a-smartphone-when-I-grow-up” Dumb phone ?!?!? WOw give me a break: what is the guy smoking ?

Actually, Telus/Bell GSM towers are already up and running in a lot of places. They’re just not carrying a signal yet. The two companies announce their plans to get into GSM quite some time ago, so October doesn’t sound too far fetched.

This rumor has already been proven completely False. There was a giant conference call with Telus a few days ago with over 500 people listening to the call. Telus has confirmed the HSPA network will not launch until January, So don’t even think it’s coming this year. They are in talks with Apple but no deal has been agreed upon. If you go to Howard forums there is a thread all about the call giving all the facts about the call and the info it relieved. Which all the info in the post is proven wrong.

I very highly doubt they are going to have all their towers switched over to HSPA before October .. let alone sell iphones to the masses.

For stating enough with the bashing of Verizon wifi and gps since people don’t actually know what the hell they are talking about and this is off topic. Okay, good reason.

@Celz: So … You’re what happens when one scrapes the bottom of the barrel, eh? Just how long have you been out of your teens, anyway? Clearly, your “insight” is that of a juvenile, regardless of your calendar age.

    Celz says:

@ beelzebub and smart4phone – how long I’ve been out of my teens is irrelevant. I’m quite grown though and have been in the cellphone business before 3g and color screens were available. If your mind is to narrow to realize that apple is selling you marketing instead of an actual product than this conversation is pointless. Mms, 3g tethering, camcorder, turn by turn navi!! are you serious I had those features almost 4 years ago!!! But now they are groundbreaking because apple says so, and you idiots believe them. They made a beautiful high quality device that added multi touch.. but thats it. They didn’t bring anything new to the table besides that.

They stole Danger’s whole business model for the sidekick and used it for a higher quality device.

When danger made the sidekick they first developed a simple os that people would find visually appealing, then built hardware that would be better looking than competing phones, next they got a single carrier that would allow them to have control over thier users, then they made an application store so people would have to purchase games and ringtones which anyone else would let customers obtain free ones, they also raised the monthly prices over normal phones to make consumers pay for having a fashion phone, and finally they made minor revisions over and over to add features that should have already been present.. If you think I cant replace danger and sidekick with apple and iphone.. Your stupid and I dont have much else to say to you..

Every other smartphone os is based on having features and than the hardware and software are made around these core features. The sidekick and the iphone are the only mainstream phones that are made around being fashionable first and then given just enough features to sell and no more. Trust me Im a marketing major I know what Im talking about. If your an apple shareholder your winning, if your just a customer your losing because apple could flip a switch and make your phone ten times better than it is now. But since you are buying from them in that current state they aren’t gonna flip that switch. It will be available next year for a small price.

Celz has been in the cell business since before color screens, yet is a marketing major and speaks with the depth of a person no older than 20? Just who do you think you’re jacking off here, fool. The truth isn’t good enough for you? Outside that pointy, shrunken head of yours, what makes you so special?

As for your laughable argument against the iPhone, exactly what phone did you have 4 years ago that shot video at 30fps?

You’re right about one thing though. Marketing IS the art of bullshit. Exemplified by your use of it here as well.

There is no rumour about Telus’ new network, its fact and its HSPA+
There is a soft launch in September for most major cities with FULL coverage in Q1 2010 in time for the Vancouver Winter Olympics.

    Celz says:

Lmao @ urmommashouldknow – Forgive me if stating apples obvious intentions wounded your frail little ego. Obviously caught up in the midst of your name calling temper tantrum you forgot to actually provide substance to your argument. That would be the logic, or coherent thought process that would separate your post from mine which represents exemplified bull feces. But if you happened to review the two posts you would clearly see that I have a well documented train of thought to substantiate my opinions; and you well, you resort to the much lesser refined art of name calling. I correctly stated that the iphone only added a beautiful hi end device and multitouch to game. I also stated that every step apple used to launch the iphone was previously taken and pioneered by danger (even though the target market was younger). And lastly that a majority of the “new” iphone features are almost half a decade old. All you said was that 30fps cameras didnt exist 4 years ago; Which is true for the United States at least. That argument is baseless in itself because today that camera is in the same class as the camera on my a900 was when it was released in 2005. So if the fact that I am marketing major (I actually own a marketing company) and have been in the cellphone business before ringtones and color screens is laughable; please go ahead and prove my statements wrong you may resume calling me names after.

And my ego doesnt need to be justified by usin big words on here even tho I can, and since I type this from my samsung m520 on opera mini to pass time I keep it simple. Its not worth pullin out my touch pro or laptop.

@celz- What single phone (hell … what single platform for that matter) delivered a naturally intuitive OS with each of your four year old ‘advances’?

Your claim to be what you are is what is laughable. You present yourself as a child, so you’re taken as a child. That’s life, kid.

So you paid the whole $350 to form a business and have letterhead and business cards and everything, eh? Impressive!

the iphone isnt intuitive its idiot proof the iphone is like fisher price.. and if homescreens, removable battery and mem, unrestricted apps, multitasking, etc etc confuse you im surprised you can use an apple computer or a pc they are much more in depth than any smartphone.. honestly apple did take smartphone usability to a new level but thats because they focused on making it easy to use not having features.. since it is only available one carrier apple needs u guys to buy a phone once a year.. so they throw in some basic feature that should have been there and cha ching you again.. that sounds alot like a sidekick doesnt it.. lmao funny how none of you idiots dispute my points.. i guess if i called more names and stopped posting well thought out and coherent statements i wouldnt be childlike.. lmao and yea i did pay the 350 or so for a ca c corp.. thats what you have to do dumb ass ..

Apparently your a verizon employee hating so bad on the most popular phone in the world. Hopefully for your sake before you graduate your 10th grade marketing class, you will realize that apple couldn’t have sold that many smartphones on effective marketing alone. I think you could have listened to some of their marketing ploys rather than thumbing away on your Nokia 2600 series! You’re the minority on a site filled with people that use all these devices very often…..need me to spell it out for you? Did you say well thought out and coherent statements? LoL
