TELUS rumored to be getting the iPhone in October
We typically shy away from wild rumors such as the one you’re about to read. Considering the information has been relayed by an individual with a pretty good track record with this sort of thing however, we’re going to report on it. With an extra spoonful of caution, that is. Word on the web is that Rogers and Fido don’t quite have the iPhone exclusivity deal in place we all thought they did. Apparently TELUS, currently a CDMA-only carrier, will be picking up the so called 3GS in October once it gets its upcoming HSPA network up and running. Just to be clear, we have yet to see any evidence to support this claim at all, meaning that for now it’s just one of those rumors that seems a bit too convenient. We’re not going to count it out just yet either though — it would certainly be a hell of a way for TELUS to get that shiny new HSPA network on the map.

COOL!
damn, no cdma telus iphone. OFFICIAL RELEASE DATE!?!
a CdMa IpHoNe?!1!!! dEn vErIzOn cAn gEt OnE?!!1!! w00t w00t w00t w00t w00t
mcgee is stoned. poor reading comprehension.
Oh fuck yeah!!!!! This makes my life complete!!!! Fyck yes! Thank you BGR!!!!! my life has been so empty, finally my life has meaning! Cell phones give me a reason to get up in the morning!
Posted from BGR Mobile (iPhone).
omg! lol cool of course VzW can’t get it cuz VzW is boring and likes handicapping all there devices something that Apple doesn’t really like doing.
Great… as if I didn’t hate Flash enough.
Once again a discussion gets turned into an inaccurate anti-vzw rant by another phan. So tell us how your ipoop isn’t crippled by att. Or how you phans are crying over the uncrackability (so far) of the ipoop3gs. Hmmm, next response from the iphans will be about crippled wifi…more lies.
yea that is hilarious the iphone is the most crippled device EVER released not even a vzw touch pro is close.. and vzw crippled the pro to sell more storms.. when turn by turn navi, mms, video recording, and voice command are lauded as huge improvents worthy of extra money you have to stop and ask yourself didnt a samsung a900 do that in 2005…
Why do people assume there’s going to be a CMDA iPhone. It won’t happen. The only reason to believe that this rumour is true is that Telus will launch their HSPA is September. Verizon is not getting the iPhone unless they launch an HSPA network also.
This is a fact. Many people in Canada are already picking up the Telus/Bell HSPA network on their iPhone and otehr HSPA devices. Telus engineers are testing their network with existing HSPA phones, and the iPhone is one of these.
There will be iPhones on Telus network in October, but whether they are just unlocked 3G/3GS iPhones or official carrier versions, we’ll have to wait and see.
Too bad the telus GSM/HSPA network will probably have even worse coverage than rogers. But who knows, maybe we’ll get some reasonable pricing out of Rogers if they get some actual competition.
Hope every carrier gets the iphone and stop this rogers fido iphone nonsense. They think they’re all that with the iphone and all customer loyalty goes down the drain once you sign the contract.
hahaha very funny lol
well let me as you smart ass… why does the iPhone yet still outsell the Touch Pro and the Storm? Also, at least AT&T allows something to access the GPS unlike VzW which criples it all together! Oh fyi I use a bold lol
@ retarded erphan
Why outsell? It’s marketing and stupid children.
GPS is not totally crippled, it’s simply limited to navigator, which of course is $10/month. There are actually technical issues involved so that BOTH can work. Neither is really a big deal to me, since I’m not stupid enough to get lost. However, Omnia unlocking comes soon, probably by the end of this week. wifi has always worked. You don’t think the mms att thing is locking?
And ultimately it better work as a phone…which is a much bigger problem with att than with verizon. The whole alleged “crippling” thing is a specious argument since all networks limit some functions on phones, and currently att is probably the biggest offender at the same time vzw is relaxing the limitations.
Woo hoo, this will be a big coup if true. With the Olympics coming up in Vancouver Telus is desperate to get the HSPA up and running for all those foreign tourist etc.
Its for HSPA not CDMA.
hey tards, Apple is not building a CDMA iphone, Telus is rumored to be building an entirely new HSPDA network. Which will take a very long time and about 500 million dollars. So don’t get too excited yet.. by then LTE iphone will probably be out LOL
Umm why are you discussing verizon when this is about telus?
I really doubt telus would have this device come out then. They are testing the system out in a few markets. It won’t be fully available till aroud q1 of 2010 or late q4 of this year. I say December is closer to the release of the phone. Why release in October??
Oh the hspa will be better. Just look at the evdo coverage map. Its many times larger than rogers. What makes you think its going to be worst than rogers? I beg to differ. Unlike rogers telus cares about their clients.
Nelly,
No Offence….
Since whn does the Evil Empire (TELUS) care?
I know at least 8 people they left the Evil Empire within the last 6 month and went with a different carrier.
If they would get the IPHONE it would only work in 1-2 Cities by September, October.
Vancouver and Toronto.
Verizon (not VZW) used to own a stake in Telus, but it doesn’t anymore, so I don’t think VZW is relevant…
Anyway, isn’t the HSPA network going to be jointly built out by Bell and Telus? If this rumor pans out, could that mean an iPhone for Bell too?
ummm change it to january. but yes rogers no longer has an exclusive contract. contract has not been signed but they are working hard at it.
there is a good chance vzw will get some type of apple phone.. at&t obviously cant handle the strain.. and for you that are new to marketing the ONLY reason the iphone is selling brand awarness, the iphone is technically an ipod.. an ipod only happens to be like the most successful consumer electronic brand ever.. if wm, rim, palm, symbian or any one else made a feature phone os that ONLY focused on being pretty and simple and not actually having features.. threw a huge name like psp, nintendo ds, or ipod behind it it would sell like crazy.. they copied sidekicks model, upped the functionality, and threw it on the ipod train.. im not knocking apple the iphone is groundbreaking.. BUT they are selling you marketing ploys first and functionality second.. the iphone is nothing more than a grown up sidekick with ipod tacked on.. but the sidekick is still genius and so is the iphone.. but id go with a feature phone os that focuses on features.. not trying to be chic and milking pennies with exclusivity contracts, closed app stores (apple stole that from sidekick too), and extra fee plans
soo whats the holdup verizon??
