You’re right, this is essentially an overlay on top of Android, just like TouchFlo is over Window Mobile. However, Android doesn’t suffer from the same difficult or confusing interface that Windows Mobile does, so I’m not sure what the point is in covering it up. Maybe HTC is trying to put it’s own look on their handsets, but it’s essentially laying on top of an OS that doesn’t need to be hidden or made easier. I own an HTC Touch Pro (on Sprint) – Worst handset I’ve ever owned. While TouchFlo is pretty to look at it is too sensitive with some commands and not sensitive enough with others…it also doesn’t “talk” nicely with Windows Mobile…I have to constantly clear notifications in both TouchFlo and WM, when you’d think that clearing one would automatically clear the other.

I don’t think HTC Sense UI is coming to the USA G1 or upcoming myTouch 3g because they are google-branded phones. I hope and pray that I’m wrong!! Still might pick up the myTouch 3g anyway and hope google devs will copy HTC sense interface in their upcoming roms like donut or eclair

about htc sense (GUI overlay on top of Android) ..dont’ think its coming to Google Branded devices and mytouch 3g and the G1 are those devices! I hope and pray that I’m wrong though!!

@ jakey he will when you show him the web pages on htc’s corporate website that has misspellings of what should be a trademarked htc brand name. And the subsequent confusion by everyone including htc as too what the product is actually called. And finally a massive spell check to correct said mistake.

Beautiful UI. HTC is top class when it comes to UI design. Look at their TouchFLO UI then and now the Sense UI. I think their UI beats any other phones out there.

This UI is actually an overlay for Android. People currently have this ROM running on existing Android Devices like the G1. Google Hero ROM or YouTube Hero ROM for Video. Its pretty amazing, runs fairly slow on my G1 so I removed, hopefully they create custom builds for existing devices!!!!

Wow bummer if this doesnt come to current Android devices because right now the mass majority of them are going to T-Mobile and only a few if any are going to be released this year without google total letdown. I was going to run this baby on the Mytouch if I got it. Oh well all the reason to wait on the Samsung i7500

Just to be clear, “non-Google” Android phones don’t get “Powered by Google” silkscreened onto the handset, sort of like buying a laptop without the Windows sticker on it.

Whether or not the UI change disqualifies it (push Exchange does), is this any real loss?

I look forward to a keyboard-ified version of this handset, preferably without the chin.

Finally, someone is actually doing something with the Android UI. The current one looks like it was circa 1980’s with Jennifer Beals still dancing with tubesocks on.

Let’s hope Tmo picks it up but knowing it’s trend of ugly phones, I’ll be pleasantly surprised.

I think that the sense UI will only be available for non-google devices. That would mean that T-Mobile G1 users and Mytouch users will not get this update…
