HTC CEO reportedly confirms Sense UI coming to current Android handsets
Sure, current Android handset owners, it’s understandable that you’re looking at HTC’s new Hero handset with a bit of jealousy. The new Sense UI alone is reason enough to be envious of course, as HTC has seemingly done for Android what it has done previously for Windows Mobile — added a UI layer that boosts sex appeal by about a million times. Don’t fret though… It looks like at least some of you will be getting some Sense UI love in the near future. HTC CEO Peter Chou is reportedly quoted as stating, “HTC sense will be available on some other existing devices.” That little snippet can be interpreted a variety of ways of course, but suffice it to say that the Dream/G1 or the Magic/myTouch 3G (or even both) are destined for updates that include the new Sense UI. As for what carrier versions will be privy to said update, your guess is as good as ours for the time being. Keep those fingers crossed, T-Mobile subscribers.

Zack,
Any date for android landing at VZW?
SWEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEETTT!!!!!!!!
I think that the sense UI will only be available for non-google devices. That would mean that T-Mobile G1 users and Mytouch users will not get this update…
Yes!!! Magic Plus Sense UI FTW!!!!
@ stasguy
I think you might be right. If that is the case, it would be a disappointment. IMO
@stasguy
I’m sure that will be the case, but with root it shouldn’t be a problem.
It should be available for every Android phone.. Isn’t that the point of Android.. to be open?
Finally, someone is actually doing something with the Android UI. The current one looks like it was circa 1980’s with Jennifer Beals still dancing with tubesocks on.
Let’s hope Tmo picks it up but knowing it’s trend of ugly phones, I’ll be pleasantly surprised.
nice if i had an android device
@BRG/Zack
Why would you assume that HTC would port the UI via updates? HTC has never ever released any UI updates for any device, only fixes.
Just to be clear, “non-Google” Android phones don’t get “Powered by Google” silkscreened onto the handset, sort of like buying a laptop without the Windows sticker on it.
Whether or not the UI change disqualifies it (push Exchange does), is this any real loss?
I look forward to a keyboard-ified version of this handset, preferably without the chin.
That’s entirely correct. Sense WILL NOT come to any Google-branded handset, at least not legitimately. T-Mo users, get your haxxor skills together!

i wAnT dIs, I tHinK iT loOkS kEwl hOw iT mAkes ThE piCturEs pReTty lOl
so if your a tmo user you will need a rooted phone to get this HTC upgrade?
ok well all the android phones that’s being release has being push by google this is the first one that hasent so i rather dout that
Wow bummer if this doesnt come to current Android devices because right now the mass majority of them are going to T-Mobile and only a few if any are going to be released this year without google total letdown. I was going to run this baby on the Mytouch if I got it. Oh well all the reason to wait on the Samsung i7500
This UI is actually an overlay for Android. People currently have this ROM running on existing Android Devices like the G1. Google Hero ROM or YouTube Hero ROM for Video. Its pretty amazing, runs fairly slow on my G1 so I removed, hopefully they create custom builds for existing devices!!!!
Beautiful UI. HTC is top class when it comes to UI design. Look at their TouchFLO UI then and now the Sense UI. I think their UI beats any other phones out there.
Fake!! London in never sunny.
This UI on the MyTouch is the winner in my book?
F*** YEAH!! I was going to root my G1 for this but if its coming then, AWESOME
all i have to say is….WHEN?!?! lol
hey Zach, is it Sense UI or Sense U I? maybe you should write a blog about it…
@ jakey he will when you show him the web pages on htc’s corporate website that has misspellings of what should be a trademarked htc brand name. And the subsequent confusion by everyone including htc as too what the product is actually called. And finally a massive spell check to correct said mistake.
