Rogers introduces new international Travel Packages for cheaper voice roaming
Let’s face it, cell phone usage in Canada is expensive but making a few phone calls while abroad can result in a bill that can do more more damage to your wallet than your mortgage payments. So call it a response to the global recession or a way to lure people into using their phones overseas but Rogers has come out with some new Travel Packages that can actually save subscribers anywhere from $15 to well over $100 dollars. The Travel Packages are good for one month once added to your account and require no contract. They’re also automatically removed from your account at the beginning of your next billing cycle. Hit the jump to check out the new rates.

Goooooooood Bless Americaaaaaaaaa
I live in Canada and these fees are still expensive. We’re already drowning on System Access Fee and United States don’t have SAF but still wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy ahead of us.
AMERICA – $1.00 a MINUTE!!!??? HOLY SHIT!!! Sprint has a $2.99 plan $0.20 per minute while in Canada.
Most other companies are between $0.20 (with a special plan) to $0.69 without plan…
WOW CANADIANS YOU ARE GETTING RAPED!
Had a couple activated a phone with Rogers a while back. The husband took the phone to Asia for a couple weeks, meanwhile the wife receives the bill one month later and it came close to $3000, that’s three f*g dollars! She almost fainted in the store.
I admit these new rates will make them a bit more appealing though the stigma of Rogers roaming rates will take some time to wear off.
This is really old information. Rogers announced these at the beginning of June.
Its cheaper to buy an unlocked phone and get a sim card where ever you travel.
Rogers pillages the Canadian consumer with everything they sell.. It’s sad but it is the truth.. The US is now wayyy ahead of us when it comes to broadband\DSL competition (non existent in Canada).. Cell competition\pricing.. And just about everything else they sell.. Not to mention we are all throttled and bandwidth capped.. VERY SAD!..
What the hell are they smoking? $1.66 per minute in Latin America or EU? T-Mobile charges $1.50 per minute in Mexico without a package and I thought that was expensive.
That is why we canadians should apply to be part of the USA states… we are not big enough to draw any competition…
Very very Sad how the monopoly works in here !
we are being raped for Internet, for mobile phone rates for everything except thanks god for our electricity rate !
It is literally cheaper to buy a new phone from TracFone at Walmart and buy the needed prepaid minutes. Ironically, it is cheaper to then use that prepaid phone in Canada, than it is to go with many of the prepaid rates from Rogers. Just to reiterate: it can be cheaper to do international roaming with some American phones, than it is to do domestic calling within Canada. That, my friends, is wacked.
G
No SAF with Fido (a sub of Rogers)
AMERICA – $1.00 per minute is nothing. Wait till you hear how much Rogers charged roaming fee. Probably $5.00 per minute.
Crazy.. I wish there will be more GSM companies come to Canada.
The fact that these rates exist just shows how dumb we Canadians are to put up with this kind of shit.
As mentioned, get your phone unlocked and put a foreign SIM card in wherever you go.
FYI- I pay less to call long distance from mainland China to Canada on my mobile than it costs for a Canadian to make a local phone call on Rogers.
just unlock your phon not worth it wit robbers.
man massive taxation for antiquated socaized medicine tha running you broke an robber raping the consumer. EWW.
No wonder canadians com down to live her durring the winter time hella cheaper in the land of AZ
Canadian phone companies r rip off.
Yes, it is good to see that our socialized system provides the same quality education that you apparently received
My Canadian plan from 7 years ago includes US roaming for $0.20 per minute. Also per second billing. Not changing that plan to get these new rates.
Finally a way to call internationally cheaper. Thanks for the info. I was wondering if I’m the only one that finds it so expensive!!
Whine, whine whine, all Canadians do, everyone here has not business sense and just come here to bitch… stop comparing to the US, Southern California market itself is the size of entire Canadian Market… use your brains…
At least the Canadian Market and carriers are taking steps… $30 for 1Gb data plans… = great (even $30 6GB promo right now). Great to see these new add ons… keep it up!
I long for the day when mobile networks don’t treat data roaming as an opportunity for them (and the foreign network) to gang rape their customers. It’s obscene. I spent a few weeks in the Philippines on business and was smacked with a $300 data roaming bill. I didn’t even realize that the phone was making a data connection, I never saw anything but a GSM connections, but apparently the phone was intermittently able to get a data connection and run up a huge bill. I’d like the mobile networks to know we’re not your bitch, we’re your customers and don’t deserve to be treated like a low rent hooker. Next time it’s an unlocked phone with a local SIM.
I can’t believe this! Seriously, Canada is charging way too much. Canadians: instead of getting a Rogers travel package and losing all of the money that’s in your wallet, you might as well get a Tracfone. I have one, and I can make all of my international calls to Brazil with the same price that I pay domestically, which is so cheap!
Hey all – I’m with the RogersHelps team at Rogers Communications.
It’s great to see the discussion around roaming. We recognize that roaming charges can be a pain point for wireless customers and we’re trying to simplify things with these Travel Packages.
Not only do the Packages automatically expire one month from the date of purchase, but we continue to honour the per-minute price even if the customer uses up the minutes in his or her bucket.
Rogers is also continuing to negotiate with foreign carriers to bring better roaming fees to our customers. Data roaming charges have fallen by 40 per cent over the past year and there are more price reductions to come.
Just to clarify the last comment, Rogers continues to honour the per-minute pricing of the Travel Pack purchased until the self-expiry date on the one-month term.
I bought a $100 prepaid plan from T-mobile.It’s good for 1000 minutes and lasts for a year. You can always keep your account active by buying another $10 prepaid. Too bad I can’t do something similar formy iPhone data.
