Qik’s video streaming app now out for Android

We here at BGR have long been fans of Qik, and today we were thrilled to to learn that the Android version of the app has gone live in the Android Market. Qik, for those of you who might not be aware, is a mobile application that lets users stream live video to the internet via their phone in real time. If you have an Android device (or even a BlackBerry, J2ME, WinMo or S60 device) this is definitely one app that you must check out, just know it’s a beta version.

@Sonya: As the article states, it’s available for pretty much everything but the iPhone, so even if you don’t have an Android phone, you can still probably use this. That is, assuming Verizon hasn’t locked down their phones so much that you simply can’t install any third-party software.

Ravnos: shut up until you know what you are talking about. My Cruve’s GPS gets me free turn-by-turn, I can stream Pandora and send a MMS at the same time, get free tethering with TetherBerry, and now stream videos with Qik. VZW locks some phones down, sure, but nothing like ATT/Apple. There is no “kill switch” for any app I have……

Gonna have to check this out. Cupcake + Apps makes the G1 a really versatile phone. All it took was some patience to wait for the good stuff to come out. Cupcake alone practically re-newed my interest in my G1. Love it.

    uhhhh @ i said so,

Too much coffee today man. Ravnos did say “assuming” as in, he/she admits they don’t really know and were basically saying you could get Qik on Verizon as long as it wasn’t locked down.

For those of you who still think that Verizon locks down their phones, think again and do some actual research. Were devices locked down in the past, yes. Are they now? Nope. All bluetooth profiles work fine, wi-fi is available on most smartphones, just not the Blackberries, and thats not Verizons fault. RIM hasnt made a CDMA device with WI-FI as of yet. This tired old argument is boring all of us. All carriers lack something in our devices that we find important. Instead of arguing with each other we should be turning the heat up on Verizon, AT&T, T-Mobile and Sprint, as well as companies like RIM, Apple and Nokia.

@because i said so: Go fuck yourself. Re-read my post and note that I said “assuming”, I have no experience with Verizon so I didn’t want to say either way. Pull your fanboy head out of your ass, go back to school, and brush up on your reading comprehension. Maybe then you’ll understand how to post without sounding like an asshole.

anything thats bad on wm is good on an iphone.. mms, hacking, gps tracking, tethering, cut and paste.. but since an iphone cant do it cam flash, web flash, remov battery and mem card are just bad..

So I need to re-read your post, but you don’t need to, like, research your response before you post? You aren’t a fanboi, you are a hypocrite, which is far worse. You said it yourself: you know very little about VZW/WM. A wise person would elect not to talk about things they know nothing about. Guess that tell us what kind of person you are…

And I’m sorry your Dare was all locked down… sad face. Maybe next time buy a real phone, not some toy.

Seriously, Verzion users must got some kind of chip on their shoulder. You all missed the part where a fellow Verizon user (Sonya) lamented that she couldn’t get Qik because Vzw has no Android phones, and where Ravnos simply stated she could get it on a Blackberry w/ Vzw as long as Vzw didn’t lock the BB down.

    Reading. It’s fundamental.

that or your a flaming troll trying to start some shit over nothing. Heck… that kind of rant may actually encourage other trolls to talk shit about Vzw just to piss you off. If Vzw had a dick, it would be in your mouth and in your throat.

Nerdherder is another Vzw user who doesn’t knwo how to read btw.

Maybe I can re-cap in short words to make you all understand better.

SONYA SAY, “OH NO, NO QIK ON VZW”

RAVNOS SAY, “NOT! QIK ON BLACK BERRY FOR VZW… UNLESS VZW LOCK PHONE, BUT ONLY VZW PEOPLE CAN KNOW THAT”

Then a bunch of idiots with a cactus shoved up their pee hole decided to get belligerent over nothing.

Good god I love the inter-web. so much fun.

    Eeedjs says:

Blame VZW for BBs not having wifi. RIM has repeatedly stated that *the* reason the Storm does not have WiFi is because VZW specifically requested it not be included.

That said, it sounds like VZW has finally wised the hell up and decided to stop locking their phones down. That and lack of an appealing phone are the two main reasons I left them in Oct of last year. Loved their network, hated their phones (and how they neutered them).

Ok Riddler, here’s a better one for you: Where in this entire thread of comments does anyone state all of that? The comment was simply trying to explain to someone they still can have Qik on another phone as long as its not locked down. the same comment could have been said to anyone on any carrier, it was not Vzw specific as if to accuse Vzw of locking their phones.

But yes, you are soooo right. No carrier locks out features from their phones. Noooo. That woudl never happen with ANY carrier.

    Eat shit and die asshole.

And my point is that the “VZW lock down phone, me no like” card is played out. Point blank, they don’t. Or really, don’t more than other carriers do. Also: this isn’t an Android only app, they have versions for most mobile platforms. People bitching about reading and such really need to learn how to do some research.

Google is your friend. Use it.

@because i said so: You really continue to demonstrate that you’re both an idiot and a fucking asshole. Nicely done. Nowhere did I say that Verizon locks down their phones. Learn to read. I simply said that if they don’t, then this app is available for more than just Android phones. Seriously, either wrap your head around that or fuck off because your troll bullshit is tiresome.
