T-Mobile myTouch 3G handset becomes official

We’re finally allowed to tell you that T-Mobile’s second Android-powered handset will indeed be the T-Mobile myTouch 3G. An HTC-manufactured device, already available in other countries with other carriers, finally will make its way to T-Mobile USA in early August. It is available for pre-order on July 8th for a retail price of $199 with two year agreement. The rumored color options were correct with white, black, and “distinctive merlot” colorizations. Here’s a list of full specifications, and further information is available after the break!

  • Quad-band EDGE, UMTS/HSDPA (1700MHz/2100MHz)
  • Wi-Fi
  • GPS
  • 3.2 megapixel autofocus camera with YouTube and Picasa uploading support
  • MicroSD slot with included 4GB microSD card
  • 3.2″ HVGA capacitive touch screen
  • Microsoft Exchange support

T-Mobile is really pushing customization options on the myTouch 3G with exclusive applications like the ones below:

“Whether a marathon runner in training who downloads the Cardio Trainer application or a
music buff who lives by his or her Imeem application, myTouch customers can find and
download unique applications from Android Market to expand and personalize their phone
to fit their precise interests and lifestyle. myTouch customers can also enjoy Sherpa™, an
application that features GENIE (Geodelic ENgine for Interest Evaluation), a learning
engine that automatically customizes itself to the user’s preferences. Created by Geodelic,
Sherpa learns a person’s likes and dislikes through behavior and user feedback,
prioritizing recommended retailers, restaurants and attractions. Seamlessly blending
behavior recognition, a recommendation engine and location relevant information, this combination of learning is exclusive to Sherpa and unlike any experience currently on the market.”

Why did this take so long to come out? HTCs Windows Mobile phones come out with a keyboard and keyboardless version of the same thing within a couple months of each other. This took a year for the exact same thing without a keyboard?

The white is a very nice looking phone. I would prefer a bigger screen, but it is still very nice.

It’s been stated on T-Mobile’s own “hype” site that it is indeed a 3.2MP camera. I’m kind of disappointed in that decision…

Why doesn’t it come out until August?

Alas, I don’t care a lot, I just bought a Magic from Rogers for full retail and had it shipped to me in the States. Yay for common 3G frequencies. :D

And Also is this a android device that is branded “with google” becuase devices with that branding it should include Microsoft exchange support as android hasnt added to android yet and if it does have it that means either google updated it OR that this is an HTC rendition of android thus having all the HTC apps like teetter, PDF viewer exchange and HTCs keyboard..

Im confused and am hoping its a 5mp cam

Can someone point to where the 3.5mm jack is?

What a waste of a phone you are HTC, especially with T-Horrible 3G coverage

Damn, T-Mobile is in no position to launch this phone at the end of the summer. fucking stupid move. they will not compete with the pre or the new iphone. the “mytouch” is the G1 without the keyboard. I’m pretty sure the G1 has a 3.2 MP camera, if not 3.2 then 3.0

God, T-Mobile sucks. Can’t wait til the Storm 2, Verizon tends to release good phones more than once a decade. And they also do not just over hype phones continuously.

This phone was released overseas in the spring, this phone should’ve been released at the latest a few weeks ago for us.

If your IQ is less than your shoe size, then you’re perfect for a job with T-Mobile’s corporate marketing team. Fucking douchebags.

BTW, I don’t know why everyone is complaining, I HATE AT&T and am dumping my iphone for this phone. T-Mobile has always had great coverage, better than at&t where I live and FAR better customer service. I have been following this phone for months patiently waiting and passing up ebay offers on it…. time for android to blow up!

    Daniel says:

    I’m looking forward to this.

Good thing I checked for myself and realized that T-Mobile has great coverage where I need it to. If I listened to AT&T employees like “ryan,” and “MP,” who are trying to promote FUD on boards like this, then I would never have given them a second thought.

I used to drink the Verizon and AT&T Kool-Aid but that was only because I needed to make excuses on why I paid $40 more per month than I should have. (It made me feel better) T-Mobile may not work for everyone, but no carrier does. They actually work really well in my area that is ALL THAT MATTERS since it’s my money.

I’m a BlackBerry fan by default but I’m willing to give this a go. I don’t care about the 3.5 mm jack since I don’t use my phone for music and I use a BT headset not an old school wired one.

The important thing is that this phone has the features I need in a form factor that is chic. The iPhone is pretty too, but too played out IMHO. I like to have something different and this fits the bill.

My only complaint is that I have to wait until August for this. Why so many weeks out T-Mobile? Are there still a lot of bugs that need to be worked out or are you just waiting for additional 3G markets to go live before you cut the tape?

Oh how much better this would be with a slide out keyboard. Im still waiting on a true G2 and while this phone looks nice, I guess I’ll still be waiting for the “G2″ because I need a keyboard and I know so do a lot of people.

Yay for the myTouch!! And ps. There will never be a device called the “G2″ since Gatorade owns the rights to that name..so it will always have some sort of different name.
