Apple sells over one million iPhones during launch weekend, six million OS 3.0 downloads

It looks like dogs everywhere are in for some trouble as Apple reveals over one million iPhone 3G S models were sold this past weekend. Yep, that’s a whole lot of high pitched squealing — but apparently the “S” stands for “Sales”. Almost equally as impressive, it looks like Steve Jobs was somehow tracked down for comment:

Customers are voting and the iPhone is winning. With over 50,000 applications available from Apple’s revolutionary App Store, iPhone momentum is stronger than ever.

Fair enough, Stevo… Over a million handsets sold and over six million OS 3.0 downloads in one weekend is definitely a solid showing. What’s more is that despite a few issues here and there, users seem overwhelmingly happy with their new handsets. How about you guys — satisfied customers or buyer’s remorse?

PS- Apple, your website is slathered with “3G S” and today’s release repeatedly mentions “3GS”. Work it out.

Well, the current iPhone pretty much offers everything that people have been hoping for in an iPhone, except perhaps high-def video and multitasking for third party apps. The former I expect in next year’s model, the latter could be offered in a software upgrade if Apple is inclined, since the new hardware is clearly powerful enough. Neither justify holding off on purchasing, in my opinion.

Overall, I’m happy. Phone seems faster. Get an error message at times when I send a text. Battery ? Not sure if better. 7.2 mbps up in Canada with Rogers makes a difference. Sound quality on video recording and memo’s is so so.speaker is still shit, not strong enough for music playback like my N95. A2DP works well but doesn’t accept my audio control buttons( ff, rwd, play and pause). Voice control limited to device and not Bluetooth headset. But most of these things can be fixed via firmware update. Good buy non the less.

Does that figure include the “pre order’s” from the last couple of weeks ? Either way, very impressive.

all you people who believe the difference between 3GS and 3G are minimal are greatly in error! The 3GS is faaaaast, and the compass actually adds to the maps app alot of functionality plus a few other differences, now if only att would step up the MMS release

This may not help Steve’s health, but at least when he dies soon, he can do so knowing that the iPhone it still the reigning champion, even if it is playing catch up in some areas.

I would love to try out the 3GS, if I could do so without an AT&T contract.

    Good job Apple

Nice diversion… but I am not convinced Mr. Jobs isn’t already dead, and they didn’t want to announce it because it would ruin the worlds most perfect product launch, ever.

I mean, I took 2 months to tell people he had a Liver transplant, and has ANYONE seen him since then?

I haven’t purchased the 3gs yet but I do hope that because of this twice as fast and the beefed up specs that next year when they put out a new iPhone that this 3gs is capable of receiving the full update without having to buy a new phone because honestly that sucks.

I know it’s death is not funny and laughing at the thought of someone dying is downright cold, but I could help but chuckle thinking about a possible interview with Steve set up by Apple. Somehow I could see Apple scheduling an interview to prove that Steve is alive and then when the interview comes around, it is just one of those pictures of him with the mouth cut out so that someone else can put their lips in and talk.

Anyway, yu could be on to something.
