Apple approving apps with push, Beejive goes live

You heard that right, folks. People complaining that Apple’s very-much-delayed push notification service might be delayed again can all relax — Beejive 3.0, the fantastic new version with push support will be going live in about an hour or so from now.
We exclusively gave you a look at Beejive for iPhone almost a year ago, and you have to give us some credit — we called it the best IM application for the iPhone, and were we right? Now think about push notifications and a whole slew of other additions and tweaks and you’re looking at a desktop-class IM application. We’ve been using a version with push for a pretty long time and can safely say it doesn’t disappoint. Here’s a breakdown of the new goodies and let us know when you try the new version!
- Push notifications
- Meta contacts (link IM buddies to address book entries!)
- Various UI enhancements, updated layout and color schemes
- Performance enhancements
Oh yeah, two more things… the price is now $9.99 (down from $15.99), and we’re testing a version that allows videos to be sent over AIM. (You could always send photos) Look for this in the near future.

N push-enabled beejive is LIIIVE..about bloody time as well..
Whats all the excitement about ? Push would just drain the battery faster.
the app frequently crashes
nvm haha. its all good, push notification work great!
I installed 3.0 and whenever I try to login Yahoo IM it keeps giving me error message: connection failed on all fallback ports!!!
HOW DO U FIX THAT???
How about push email?
Does Beejive allow for the landscape keyboard?
push isnt working for me?
AIM just now got an update out that brings push notification. Go get it.
@Scaboda
It does allow landscape keyboard. So far push notifications is working great. Wish the facebook app made use of them
Posting this from my first iPhone and very excited to test this app out. I must say that the battery drains very fast, but overall it’s not that bad.

Beejive rules… so glad I got this for 9.99
What’s the $10 difference between beejive and the free aim version can someone enlighten me?
loving it!! this app was awesome before now even better!
@Rosegold
it’s a matter of user experience. Beejive is a more attractive app, better organized, offers better customizations. Read reviews of it just to see how beloved of an app it is.
Tap Tap Revenge 2 already had Push enabled. Under settings it says “Notifications”.
Surprisingly, AIM just updated theirs also to support push notifications.
Now, I don’t know which one should I choose.
Anyone else having problems signing in to yahoo under 3.0?

Finally… Now I HAVE to upgrade to 3.0 I can’t wiat to try this out…
Dumb question: how do I update to the newest version? I bought from the app store a few days ago in anticipation of this release, and don’t see anything to update to the new version (only to buy new).
I tried out 3.0. Have to say I’m not impressed. It crashed within 2 mins of playing with it. Was unable to connect to Yahoo. AIM gave a warning it was logged in multiple times, even though I havent used any other IM clients today. The Metacontacts I havent figured out yet – will need to read the instructions I guess (in Trillian Pro on Windows it’s a great feature at least). And finally I got a sticky progress indicator. Launched several times but it kept coming back. In short, I’d skip 3.0 and wait for the next update/patch. The current 3.0 is buggy as hell.
im having a few issues between connectivity and responce seems very buggy
@Moe
Allowing background applications and keeping the IM software running in the background always using the radio will drain battery MUCH faster.
Push doesn’t really drain battery because it only uses the radio when it receives a notification from the server. That is the whole point of PUSH. SMS text messaging doesn’t drain your battery does it? You only use SMS when a short message is sent to your phone. Same concept.
yeah, have fun all you att users with your iphone push notifications.. if you’re using t-mobile with the iphone, jailbroken. and haven’t activated your phone with apple or att then you’ll not be getting your little badges by your icons.. gahh..
Are you iPhans excited about getting to do something Symbian users have done for free since at least 2004, and being charged $10 to use a free service? Try Fring, Palringo, Nimbuzz, Yeigo, Slick, Gizmo Project, or various other applications on Symbian instead. They’re free. Symbian = more options, less cost. Apple = less choice, extortionist practices, and sadness at what they force you guys to put up with.
…by the way, PUSH services DO use more battery. SMS is always connected, as the device maintains a constant network connection. The app will do this as well, only not a normal GPRS signal like SMS or MMS (remember MMS, which Steve Jobs claimed no one needed, then adds to 3.0?), but a 3G connection. Whether that is negligible or not remains to be seen. I doubt it will be significant, but the iPhone isn’t optimized to do alot at once.
