Apple approving apps with push, Beejive goes live

You heard that right, folks. People complaining that Apple’s very-much-delayed push notification service might be delayed again can all relax — Beejive 3.0, the fantastic new version with push support will be going live in about an hour or so from now.
We exclusively gave you a look at Beejive for iPhone almost a year ago, and you have to give us some credit — we called it the best IM application for the iPhone, and were we right? Now think about push notifications and a whole slew of other additions and tweaks and you’re looking at a desktop-class IM application. We’ve been using a version with push for a pretty long time and can safely say it doesn’t disappoint. Here’s a breakdown of the new goodies and let us know when you try the new version!
- Push notifications
- Meta contacts (link IM buddies to address book entries!)
- Various UI enhancements, updated layout and color schemes
- Performance enhancements
Oh yeah, two more things… the price is now $9.99 (down from $15.99), and we’re testing a version that allows videos to be sent over AIM. (You could always send photos) Look for this in the near future.

@sausage
Nobody else has push API. RIM just announced they will have one. Currently on BB, apps that are push like facebook get their notifications from email. The only thing push in BB is email. On iPhone, all of your apps can be push.
Show me which platform allows you to be notified by all of your apps of changes without them running in the background?
this is from ‘tech crunch’
“Push is great for services like IM, but it doesn’t resolve the lack of iPhone background support for all apps. ”
this is so true, while ‘berry-nation’ did take it for granted, this is a ‘bonus’ for the i-phone.
however, there are many many things that apple can do over the BB, and lets not forget the primary reason why, the ‘developers’ for one way or the other are more comfortable with their OS.
so again, productivity, isnt necessarily the jewel crown of the iphone.
and also lets be honest about the ‘record breaking’ one million orders over the weekend. its a hot product to a certain demographic tech savvy, junkies whatever. BB’s tend to sell better in the long term, while the i-phone is instantly a ‘must-have’ to a very large percentage of the I-base right away, i.e. the first weekend.
@ chris cox
my post ^^ about the push capability’s of v 3.0
your the only one thats so sure about the push notifications of the i pgone.
everywhere, anywhere you go, they are just bitching about the very limited ‘push’ that apple added.
@JoeTour
Yes, I am referring to how it is supposed to work. Not looking at initial opening growing pains. There are always problems when you open up a new service like this because it is just impossible to predict everything when you introduce millions of people using several things at one time.
Pretty soon, BlackBerry will have the same kind of push API. But right now, iPhone is the first to implement it wide scale.
can we agree at least that as of now there is only IM push support?
if thats the case, its RIM circa 2004
^ thats in refference to your ‘wide scale’ comment.
@JoeTour
Thats the thing. It is not RIM circa 2004 because BlackBerry does not support push API fully yet. I use my BlackBerry Curve when I am out on a business trip. I cringe when I run JiveTalk for Blackberry because it is very noticeable when running in the background keeping the radio open and connected all the time. When BB supports full push, which they are. Just google Blackberry push API … you will get apps like IM programs that can still notify you even if they are not running so it saves battery.
@christexaport and Christopher Cox,
I enjoy reading your comments and it is nice to see people can still have a healthy debate and still act as adults.
Posted from BGR Mobile (iPhone).
although the ipod touch doesnt use att’s network for push notifications. its on apple’s end.
Did Apple pull it? I get a “no longer available” when I try and buy through the store.
I got it last night June 23rd in the US and I cant’t stop praising it, by far the best app I have…It runs smoothly the PUSH notification is great I get IM alerts if the app is not running or my phone is in stand-by mode. The interface and backgrounds and animations are beautiful. Well worth the $9.99
@ NogamiI just check the app store today June 24th @ 1pm central time here in the US and the app is still there. Its called BeejiveIM 3.0 with PUSH
