Phone Creeper: Novel security suite or spyware tool for Windows Mobile

Touted as an espionage tool but more closely resembling spyware is a new application, Phone Creeper, written by xda-developer member chetstriker. Once installed on a Windows Mobile 5, 6.1 or 6.5 handset with .NET CF 3.5, the software tool can be used to:

  • secretly and remotely read incoming / outgoing sms
  • secretly and remotely delete incoming / outgoing sms
  • secretly and remotely view call history
  • bounce sms messages off remote phone to someone else
  • create a pop-up message on phone
  • send a secret fart sound
  • secretly and remotely listen to person – (Initiates silent call back of person to your phone with their speaker phone enabled)
  • send listening in call to somebody else’s phone
  • remote wipe of installed flash card

These above remote control commands are issued via SMS messages sent from any other handset to the “infected” Windows Mobile handset. The software is currently being distributed as a cab file that one must agree to install but, in the future, a code injector could be created to insert this application silently into any cab file. Once installed, the application does not appear in the task manager, does not have a user interface and runs silently in the background. So what do you think, the ultimate spy tool for parents of teenagers, a security suite to protect your data if your phone is stolen, or the progenitor of a whole new class of mobile phone spyware?

    Haha nice!

I find the most valuable part of the spyware is the ability to send remote fart sounds. If I could do that…oh man…I don’t want to think about it.

win mo is better than any other os simply because of the fact that you can make this type of app.. xda-developers hackers have released more useful software than the whole apple app store.. of course this can be misused but what idiot would install somthing they dont know.. and sprite terminator and many others have been doing this type of thing for years.. this is great for people with multiple lines on there accounts… remote security is only new to iphone users and is still limited to only some users

Symbian has a similar app as well. And WinMo isn’t simple, but besides S60, its unmatched in the app quality and capability department.

All of the above, depending on the user/victim.

Now that is some contorted logic. My phone is easily hacked, so it is better?

@ rono in school its called reading and comprehension because being able to understand and make inteligent conclusions from what you read is just as important as reading in itself.. remote security functions are available on every major smartphone, just because this guy added some jokes doesnt make this a hack or spyware.. whats worse a fart noise or giving someone gps coordinates of your location? i could install similar programs on a dream, a tuh tuh tour, or set up an iphone 3gs to do remote wipes.. is that hacking or spyware.. yea i didnt think so.. bottom line dont install from shady sources or dont let shady people borrow your phone.. the fact that an average xda or ppcgeeks user can make windows phones do things that an iphone will never do (i.e. run the WHOLE android os with a great deal of apps) is what makes them better for me..

I can’t stand today’s “hacker” who makes shit just for the sake of being a hippie. Isn’t XDA already in hot water with Microsoft? They better chill the F out.

@ christexaport s60 is the only main smartphone os thats not from north america so it had to be good and it is.. i believe the iphone is no where near symbian in the number of available apps.. but for some reason they ignore us, so for the most part they get ignored back.. but i kno there are s60 counterparts to most of my fav winmo apps that apple will never see

@ b being in hot water with a greedy company like ms or apple is most likely a good thing.. ms is the lesser of two evils and ms knows they need xda.. why do you think google went so open with android.. and this app adds great new features among the stupid ones so stop bitchin about xda, when corporate app stores are full of even less usefull crap

It’s not like a virus that is remotely installed. Only somebody who cand get ahold of your phone can put this app on …. I’m sure with enough time the iPhone could get this, too. doesn’t the jailbreak stuff show that the iPhone is easily hacked as well?

    Scrofula says:

Of course jailbreak shows that. And while the phans will cluck like ignorant chickens about viri and windows, just think how pissed off they will be if apple closed the hardware backdoor that allows jailbreaking with the 3gs…which so far apple has succeeded in doing!

    Well..

    Were to start.
If you need this app you need this app.
If you don’t you wouldn’t understand the need for it.
    Sad but true.

When you daughter disappears for 3 days of partying you’d wish you had this app on the phone to find what texts she’s been getting/sending.

It could be most useful in cases or horribly abused. i.e. “Stalker” boyfriends/husbands.

the crew cooking over at XDA are F’n awesome. MS should be glad they have them improving their crap OS for years. Otherwise, a huge number of people would have dropped their WinMo devices a long time ago.. myself included.
the majority of those who bash WinMo have never visited PPC Geeks or XDA or know anything about cooking. WinMo can be great if re-worked in a kitchen. I love my 6.5 titanium action and XDA. Keep up the good work.
