From some of the comments I read at other sites about this news, a lot of people are angry about this. How can Jobs be the “sickest patient on the waiting list”? Seems that the hospital that did the surgery saw dollar signs and a “free publicity” opportunity to make more money.

Doctors are the number one killers in America. Not car accidents, plane crashes or cancer. Doctors. Healthcare has become so expensive that those who REALLY do need to have treatments cannot afford it unless if doctors and hospitals can screw your health insurance over real good.

Put the blame for healthcare cost where it really belongs. Greedy doctors and big pharmaceutical companies. The medical industry is not in the business of “saving lives”. They are in the business of generating death. Death makes them money. Not life. Not natural items, herbs and plants.

In essence, doctors who take the “hippocratic oath” of “do no harm” are just hypocrites. Knowledge is power. You have to be your own doctor, medical advocate and do your own research. Because if you don’t, the choice will be made for you. And the choice won’t be in your “best interest”.

I understand the man is a very public figure and the chief officer who is in charge of a very wealthy corporation under whose insight and direction can make or lose massive amounts of money which can equate to loss or profits to millions of shareholders. However, as a human and a US Citizen (not that non-citizens are precluded, but the US is big on privacy) he deserves some privacy.

However, that’s just my $0.02.

On a side note, I do wish him well. Major surgery, especially transplants have many factors and impending complications. All the more why we should just leave him alone until he returns to full-time duty at Apple.

I am no fan of Apple. Quite the opposite actually, and it’s funny how a lot of people react to this news.

I feel like this is par-for-the-course for Apple of late. I used to respect the living daylights out of Apple, but some of their more recent decisions made me realize they are just another company out to make profits, not revolutionize the world by providing computers and mobile phones.

I want to know: What else is Apple/Jobs hidding?

Anybody in a high level leadership position MUST disclose their medical condition. Unless, of course, you live in a communist country. It is only fair to shareholders of a corporation or voters in an election. The Preisdent of the United States gets an annual check-up and those results are released to the public.

@ MP – Its a good thing then we have free speach rights that even protect your right to spew this crap. Steve is a public figure by choice and more improtaintly his health is a financial factor for Apple and investors have an absolute legal right to know ANYTHING that could affect their investment. Moreover Steve is duty bound to disclose it.

“William Hawkins, a doctor specializing in pancreatic and gastrointestinal surgery at Washington University in St. Louis, Mo., said that the type of slow-growing pancreatic tumor Mr. Jobs had will commonly metastasize in another organ during a patient’s lifetime, and that the organ is usually the liver. ‘All total, 75% of patients are going to have the disease spread over the course of their life,’ said Dr. Hawkins, who has not treated Mr. Jobs,” Kane and Lublin report. “Getting a liver transplant to treat a metastasized neuroendocrine tumor is controversial because livers are scarce and the surgery’s efficacy as a cure hasn’t been proved, Dr. Hawkins added. He said that patients whose tumors have metastasized can live for as many as 10 years without any treatment so it is hard to determine how successful a transplant has been in curing the disease.”
