IPhone 3G S plagued by sound issues?

Are you enjoying your brand new iPhone 3G S? Did you get a 16GB or a 32GB? Well, that won’t matter if people are experiencing what we are. There seems to a problem with sound files on the 3G S and the result after they’re triggered. After they are done playing — like the unlock sound, SMS sound, for instance — the iPhone emits a high-frequency tone. No, we’re not kidding. Something pretty high around 15KHz. We’ve confirmed this isn’t a local isolated issue with our phone, and since some people can’t hear these types of high-pitched tones, your iPhone might produce it yet you’d never notice.
We’re 99% sure it’s software related because if you set the phone to vibrate, big surprise, no high-pitched tone. So, anyone out there experiencing this? It’s amazing this was skipped over in the many reviews published, but oh well. Hopefully Apple fixes it soon because this is kind of painful and pretty outrageous. Hit us up and let us know!

Just had another thought. Most of us have been reporting these issues as being noticed on the new 3GS. Would be interesting to hear the following:
1) Are any users seeing this on the 3G with the 3.0 firmware ?
2) Anyone that is running the Gold Master on a 3GS (restored over the final 3.0) seeing the same issue ?
Let us know
I hear it when I dock it sometimes. Like a glitch type of sound. When I pull it out and re-dock, no sound.
Wildcat: After locking, my 3G emits a white noise for the same duration that my 3GS emits the tone.
It seems like a software issue to me – like the phone is not shutting off the speaker at the right time with certain noise samples.
im thinking we could get replacements but would that be worth it?
Yep. My 3gs received via fed ex on wednesday 24th does have these loud alert sounds also. I hope apple sends out a fix soon.. Too much money to spend to be their quality control dept.
Regarding the replacement thought the sad part is that some people are posting they’ve had multiple replacements and still see the issue. Makes it sound more like all handsets actually have the issue but only some people can hear the frequency response
Bought the iPhone 3GS 16GB two days ago. I’ve been txt’ing like crazy and internet browsing. All the sounds/alerts are on but i’m not hearing the high-pitched tone mentioned. And if i hear it, Apple has 27 days to send out an s/w update…if not, Blackberry Bold here i come!!!
Anybody hearing a static sound when talking to people? This is my 2nd replacement phone from Apple in a week and a half since I bought the 3G S on opening day. On all 3 phones I’ve been hearing a static sound as well as the person I’m talking to.
Mine is making that awful high pitch. I just heard it last night when i was goong to bed and it was silence in ma roo
Mine does it, too. It started after 2 weeks. I can hear it loud and clear after lock toggle and after each SMS. It is extremely annoying. Usually this happens when an electric component is faulty. The same noise old TV’s make… I hate this so much!!!
I had had my 32 gig for 2 weeks now. I now have sound problems. My problems, however, is that I getting no sound. My ringtones will not work. It’s not the speaker as I still have sound through the iPod and YouTube. Is anyone else having this issue?
My SMS tri tone sounds like a broken door bell… flat. Some of the ring tones also have sound distortions. Wonder if I should take my white 16GB back to Apple or wait for the software update.
I hear it too, and its becoming annoying!

I have exactly the same issue, same model as well.
I noticed the problem on the first iPhone 3gs I had. It was a 32gb black. I brought it to Apple thinking it was a defective unit, but the second one did the same thing. I am now on iPhone number four, and I still have the same problem!!!!! Apple swears they never heard anyone complaining about the issue, and it must be some rf interference, which I think is a load of crap. Hopefully they fix the issue soon. Its driving me crazy!!
is that thing u typed in ment to be a website and it dont work
never mind and if ur iphone has this problem and ur on contract then u can just go back to the shop u bought it from and they will allways sort it out
I get that same annoying sound as well! And the reception sucks!
I can hear it on my white 32 but just barely I have to hold the phone up to my ear to hear it and it’s real faint. My dog doesn’t even hear it unless I hold the phone up to him after I get a text or what not. If i hadn’t read this then I wouldn’t even know about it. Still kinda annoying just on principal that Apple didn’t pick up on this.
Haha this is cazy, so would this be fixed in the next update?
I never heard it before now, then I had some late night texting, and heard this high pitched noise like the old mosquito ringtone it’s quite annoying.
This high pitched ‘dog whistle’ is driving me crazy!! I’ll try the vibrate mode and hope to heck it goes away. Love the iphone but have to keep it away from me – can’t stand the headache!
Ha ha. That hurt. Opened it and immediately started cringing.
T urn the camera volume down to 1 – 3 or switch your phone to silent and it will record with no noise. In beta 3 it seems to fix the problem for it. I tried it out with no issues from it.
I have this sound problem (iPhone 3GS), with an add-on. My phone makes a louder high pitched sound that is made anytime it is accessing data, gives me a terrible headache while I have it held to me ear while talking on the phone. Disabling 3g on the phone seems to solve it.
