Rogers to finally release Sony Ericsson Xperia X1

Rogers subscribers who happen to be fans of Windows Mobile will be pleased to learn that Sony Ericsson’s Xperia X1 is now shipping to retail outlets across Canada and will be available within the next few days. Finally. With a price tag of $249.99 on a 3-year contract with a voice and data plan of $45 or more, it’s not exactly clear to us just who is going to want to snag a device that was announced on February 10th of last year — especially considering hot new WinMo devices like the HTC Touch Pro2 and the, umm, Xperia X2 are just around the corner. Then again, maybe we’re just too picky.

Thanks, Treatz!

Rogers hasn’t had any big phone releases recently. this is an excellent time for sony ericssons to make a huge splash with this year old phone

I live in Canada and I think this piece of news is sad. As other commentators mentioned, the X2 is about to be announced and just now Rogers decided to bring in X1.

Another thing I want to mention about how Rogers really sucks. When the HTC Magic and HTC Dream (Android phones) was first launched at Rogers, I visited Rogers on launch day and guess what I saw sitting front and center of the entire store? The iPhone 3G, and it was a working demo phone for everyone to try while the android phones where dummy phones sitting with the other dummy cellphones. Is this how they launch a new cellphone? Shame on you Rogers.

Unfortunately I am a Rogers customer. And I hate it.

ahh.. Rogers.. our beloved Rogers.. It’s nice to know that you’re catching up a little bit, I mean, really, you are only 1 year late with all of your devices, but that’s how they get you – Limit the amount of quality devices, until they become 1 year old and all new phones come out, this way.. they can buy the phone cheap and charge customers out of their arses for them.. thus.. make a huge profit…

Same specs as the Touch Pro 2, except in a smaller package. Sounds like a WIN to me. (Who cares when it was released???)

    Mobile Developer says:

The X1 is a very cool windows mobile phone. Sorry to hear about the excessive contract requirements in Canada, but I would say if you can wait I would hold off for the X2 or the HTC Touch Pro 2 or Diamond 2 all of which will be running windows mobile 6.5.
