Anyone who writes “me and my dad” hasn’t graduated high school yet and doesn’t understand the concept of owning a business and the necessary phone usage that comes with it. I use 3000 minutes a month. Your amazing “plan” would cost nearly $800 a month in per minute overages – assuming of course a conservative 30 cent per minute rate.

anyone alone who spends over 100$ for there rogers bill a month is stupid, me and my dad get 700 minutes a month to share, free local calling, free weekends, after 7 its free, unlimited txt, email, im, pic/vid msging, and 500 mb of data for each of us so basically the best of the best rogers has to offer, are you ready for this?! all for a combined total of 124.66$

I run a business and pay $311 per month for my base plan, which works out to anywhere from $350 to $600 per month for my Blackberry. So over the past 14 months with Rogers I’ve given them roughly $5800. They silently changed the upgrade policy in March to 2 years so I am not eligible for any discounted price until next February and it really pisses me off. Why would they alienate their biggest customers like this? I have clearly paid more than enough to cover their subsidy spread and this just feels underhanded and plain mean!

Just talked to Fido customer service, apparently I can renew my contract at the earliest 6 months before the current contract expires, but have to pay the full price of the phone. I asked what’s the point of renewing early when I have to pay the full price? She said that’s because I’m on the “special” price plan that doesn’t have the system access fee. I said when I signed up all the plans do not have this SAF fee so what’s special about my plan. She chose not to answer but encourage me to add another line just to get the phone at the discounted price. Now why would I do that when I’ve been treated like a case of charity with the “special” plan.

When my time is up I’m a goner. Such an ungrateful company.

@Keith: It doesn’t matter if those customers use less than the 6GB they’re paying for, $25 for 500MB is highway robbery no matter how you slice it. Rogers’ data rates are way out of line with every first world nation by a LONG ways. Even in Australia, where the population density is similar and most of their population is clustered in coastal cities similar to how ours are clustered near the US border, the companies there don’t gouge like this. The 6GB plan is a pretty good value for the money in any market, but the fact that it’s just a promotion, requires a 3 year contract (also unprecedented in other first world wireless markets!), and is tied to a single handset all speak to Rogers’ insatiable greed and relentless price gouging. Knock down the price of your 3GB and 5GB data packages and maybe you can talk about how good a value your data plans are, because right now, they’re a god damned rip-off.

Just got my iPhone 3gs today. I like it, its much snapier than the 3g for sure. And I do find many of the store reps are cluless. I actually much more than the rep. Everytime I went there I gave him info that he had no idea but he would ask his manager and the manager is like that right. I got an ok deal I guess

I’m with Rogers and wanted to speak to some of the comments left here.
First, I want to make it clear that the reason 93% of our customers use less than 500MB of data isn’t that they’re scared of getting charged overage fees on a 500MB plan. In fact, 90% of customers on a 6GB plan use less than 500MB a month.
Second, we recognize that the Rogers and Fido upgrade offers are very different. But each has its own advantages. For example, Fido customers don’t have to extend their contract for a year. And the Fido offer applies to all iPhone customers no matter when they bought their phone, so customers who bought their devices in 2009 are considerably better off than they would be with the Rogers plan.
Third, I want to apologize to Darren. What you were told today is not correct. The $100 threshold applies to your overall pre-tax wireless bill over the last 9 to 12 months. Ok, I am a Rogers customer with iPhone 3G with my cell phone bill WELL OVER $100 per month and I activated last year between July 11 and September, 2008 so according to what’s on their website I should qualify to upgrade for $199 to the 3G-S.

However…today I

1) Went to a Wireless Wave store who could sell me a phone but could not even select any hardware upgrade for me. They claimed they use the same system as Rogers so they didn’t know what is going on.

2) At the 1st Rogers Wireless store there was over 1 hour wait to get someone on the phone for a hardware upgrade, so we ended up leaving, and

3) Going to the second Rogers Wireless store, they were sold out of all 3G-S black models, and only had 3 white ones left, but again it is over 1 hour wait to get a Rogers rep. on the phone to complete the hardware upgrade

then…

4) went back to work, called Rogers on the phone (and after waiting 30 minutes) talked to a guy who said “Well, actually no, you don’t qualify for the $199 pricing because your ACTUAL WIRELESS PLAN itself must be over $100 per month. Even though my last bill was $137 and my bill before that was $173 and every bill since last summer was over $100, it turns out that their “offer #2″ does not include any long distance charges or extra charges for text messages. The actual “plan” you are on must be over $100 per month for you to qualify.”. Which really sucks because on their website it just says if your “Wireless Bill” is over $100 then you qualify.

But, you get a different answer from everyone you talk to and the reps. in the Rogers stores did not know about this special upgrade pricing. They said “thats not what we were told”…

Anyway, lots of chaos and confusion everywhere and line ups so I’m just going to wait.

But it looks like sales are VERY strong.

All this information is correct, i work for the call centre at rogers exclusively for the wireless department.

Also the 6gb for 30$ is available to Blackberry bold customers until July 31st

I just called Rogers and see whether I am eligible for an update for the iphone 3Gs, turns out even though I have an Blackberry for the past 10 months with Rogers and I spend over 100+ every month, I am not able to get the iphone 3G S at a discount price of 299… not even at 549… I will have to pay 780 for the iphone.

Boy I am pissed. The customer services rep is completely useless…

To everyone saying these plans don’t suck: You’re right, the 6GB/$30 plan is actually pretty good. The problem is that Rogers/Fido are only offering this during a “promo period” that ends July 31, and it’s only being offered to iPhone and Android users. Everybody with a different phone, as well as anyone who can’t buy an iPhone until, say, August for whatever reason, gets stuck with plans that range from 500MB/$25 to 5GB/$80. And to get this 6GB plan, you have to sign a 3 YEAR CONTRACT. So again, Americans, tell us how bad AT&T is compared to this bullshit, because I think you guys have it pretty good down there, at least as far as wireless companies go.

I spend about $100 dollar a month on my plan with Rogers; however, I use a Blackberry. I wonder whether Roger will be willing to give me the $500 dollar discount… or only the iphone 3G users will get that discount… that would suck big time for people like me!….

Fido users are clearly getting the shaft on this. I pay on average just over $100 a month, yet, because I’m with Fido I only get to use my $45 Fido dollars towards the $780 iPhone 3Gs. And then they give me $100 Fido dollars? So, I’m sort of (eventually) getting the phone for $635 while Rogers customers are getting it for $299? No thanks. I will GLADLY forfeit my current and all future Fido dollars to get the new phone for $299. Come on Fido! Give us something better.
