Ok, Canadians, here’s the official skinny on all that is Rogers/Fido’s iPhone 3G S
Over the past few weeks we at BGR have been pestering the folks at Rogers and Fido for information on their iPhone 3G S pricing and policies. Well guess what — they’ve just given us the goods. Hit the jump, because we’re pretty damn sure that you’ll like what you see.
There has been a lot of excitement around the new iPhone 3G S and we wanted to recognize the early adopters who helped make the iPhone the hottest-selling handset in Canadian wireless history. We will be discounting the price of the iPhone 3G S by between $250 and $500 to provide savings to many of our iPhone customers.
What this means is that eligible iPhone owners can acquire the iPhone 16GB 3G S for as low as $199 or the 32GB for as low as $299 until July 31, 2009.
For Fido customers, we’re offering the Fido Rewards iPhone 3G S promotion. This enables iPhone customers to redeem FidoDollars towards a new iPhone 3G S with an additional $100 top-up from Fido.
For customers who don’t qualify for these extra savings, we are pleased to offer Rogers Wireless customers the iPhone at our cost on rogers.com. This cost – $580 for the iPhone 3G, $680 for the iPhone 3G S 16GB and $780 for the iPhone 3G S 32GB – represents the price we pay for the device plus a nominal fee for the SIM card. Customers can access these devices at retail locations for just $19 more for the three devices.
We’re also happy to announce that Rogers and Fido are extending the 6GB/$30 data promotion until July 31. This offer is valid for customers on a new or existing iPhone plan or customers buying an Android-powered HTC Magic or HTC Dream.
Five ways to save
1) For Rogers Wireless customers who bought an iPhone 3G between July 11 and Sept. 30, 2008, and with an average monthly spend of at least $100, Rogers will provide $500 off the cost of an iPhone 3G S. This special offer expires July 31, 2009 and comes with the addition of a one-year term to the customer’s existing service agreement.

· 32GB 3GS $5493) All Rogers Wireless customers can upgrade to the iPhone 3GS at our cost at Rogers.com, or for a suggested retail price of just $19 more than our cost through our retail channels.

This is shocking. At every step of the way with the iPhone introduction, Rogers and Fido have matched policies. They copy and paste the same copy onto each others’ web sites! This makes no sense at all. To what end would they enact this separate policy?
Clearly, the only answer is that this is the start of a phasing out of Fido as a vendor for iPhone. For the first time, a new customer looking at these policies would now clearly choose Rogers over Fido. Damn them to hell for this.
Does anyone know if you are still eligible for the $250 off if you bought a different (read: better) smart phone in that same time frame?

Dude,just one more thing Virgin is now wholly owned by Bell. For less than 600 can$ I can get an unlocked Storm from Expansys.
I just got question, what happens to the old iPhone 3G once u buy the 3GS under ur current contract? Will I be able to keep it and sell it?

Dude, BGR is a reputable site. I highly doubt they would make this up… In fact, I would believe this site over some clueless customer service rep who wants to sound all bad ass and say they’re gonna investigate this site. LOL… What a goof…

When Canadians say $100 a month, we mean USD a month, not Canadian dollars. Cuz we’re dumb and we live in igloos and hunt moose for dinner with wooden spears.

BGR has been dead on in the past for many many promos.
Don’t believe what you hear from a rep at Rogers… Not every1 there is knowledgeable…! Some reps are great… Some are not so great!

Yeah I checked the Rogers website. Seems like the rep at Rogers was totally clueless, no matter how hard she was trying not to be. She even put me on hold for a while to discuss this ‘fake promo’ thing with her superiors. That’s really funny

So close yet so far. My bill comes to $98.82/month with the 3G so its UNDER the $100 so I wouldn’t qualify for the $500 off. If I did I would probably pull the trigger but I’m not going to pay $549, the 3GS just isn’t enough of a leap from the 3G.

The rep you spoke to is wrong. This is the official Rogers/Fido policy regarding the sale of the iPhone 3G S.
The prices might be comparable to AT&T for the phone, but we have 3 YEAR contracts and pay more per month, for LESS voice and data than AT&T.
And don’t get me started on the System Activation Fee($6.95 a month). Oh and do you want caller ID, yaaaaaa thats EXTRA.

I should more than meet the Rogers requirements for the $500 off, but because I just so happen to be on Fido which makes Rogers automatically label me a cheapo undeserving of the Rogers rate, I get this shitty pricing! Really? I pay well over $100 a month and am more than willing to extend!
The companies are the same! As somebody mentioned, they even copy and paste their press releases for the iPhone and such. Yet now this? This is just BS.
With the amount I have paid, I have MORE than paid off my iPhone and definitely made Rogers money. This is just idiotic. These tel-cos just don’t friggin get it. They’re nothing better than dumb pipes, I really wish they’d just go and stop trying to dictate the terms to the consumer.
$140ish – $30 data, $100 voice
wow they gave us 20.00 of the no contract price, they are awesome, i dont understand why it isnt cheaper, its not like i can use the iphone on telus right now well maybe in a few months lol, and what if you upgraded to a blackberry in dec, and you want a iphone now, do you still get that promo? im so very confused rogers….. shaking my fist is disgust
Fido users are clearly getting the shaft on this. I pay on average just over $100 a month, yet, because I’m with Fido I only get to use my $45 Fido dollars towards the $780 iPhone 3Gs. And then they give me $100 Fido dollars? So, I’m sort of (eventually) getting the phone for $635 while Rogers customers are getting it for $299? No thanks. I will GLADLY forfeit my current and all future Fido dollars to get the new phone for $299. Come on Fido! Give us something better.
I should call up Rogers and see if I am due for an upgrade or not. If not no biggy, I need a new phone my E71 dying on my the camera/video stopped working guess I dropped it to many times LMAO
My problem is the following:
I spend about $100 dollar a month on my plan with Rogers; however, I use a Blackberry. I wonder whether Roger will be willing to give me the $500 dollar discount… or only the iphone 3G users will get that discount… that would suck big time for people like me!….
