LG announces GW550 smartphone; watch out HTC Snap
No, it’s not quite as exciting or sexy as the Aigen GM730 but the new GM550 smartphone is will likely make business users raise an eyebrow. Like the HTC Snap, The GM550 is a Windows Mobile 6.1-powered handset designed with pure business users in its sights. To compliment a smooth and sleek minimal design, LG has packed an E71esque QWERTY, 2.4-inch QVGA display, a 3 megapixel camera, 7.2Mbps HSDPA / 2Mbps HSUPA, stereo speakers and a 1300 mAh battery into the GW550. While the company has yet to reveal pricing or a release date, the handset does pack quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE and “global 3G” so carrier support or not, it will definitely be an option for business-minded users here in the US. So what do you think, GW550 or Snap? Hit the jump for two more pics.

It looks like the love child of a Nokia E71 and Blackberry 8900.
damm it is just me o that looks alot like the nokia e72
hmm … i wonder if comin to teh big red.
Looks really nice. Would’ve bought a Snap but I am now boycotting any phone without a 3.5mm jack. Not sure what this one has and just like with the E72 I’m not holding my breath for CDMA either.
It looks just like the E71.. like an ugly cousin or something.
This will be a banner year for Win Mo devices!!!!!!!
If only more phones could have a keyboard like the E71..apparently LG is the only ones that got that memo..
this phone looks really good, but specs-wise… i think i’ll be looking forward to the e72 more
I actually like this it sorta reminds me of my Samsung Jack.
If it doesn’t come with AWS, the HTC Snap is the only choice for T-Mobile US customers.
Plus HTC is easier to hack/mod thanks to xda-developers.
The button layout is almost identical to the E71, including function buttons wrapped around by the answer keys. The form of the phone is the same too. Other design details are quite different – the lack of a chrome border that goes all the way around.
But from a practical point of view, the E71 form factor is highly praised and a WinMo version doesn’t hurt.
Damn that’s a nice looking phone! Me likey!
Is that the E71 I’m seeing there?!
Standard (non-touchscreen) or Professional (touchscreen) ?
zzzzz….zzzzz….zzzzzzzzzzz
Looks like an e71 with LG and WM smashed into it lol.
If this was an Android phone, it would rock!
Is this WM std or pro?
Yes, it does look like E71
that looks delicious…. hopefully it will come to at&t
Screw the Snap, this rocks.
3.5mm jack?
its NOKLA!!
I’d say that’s a pretty fair statement. In other words, it’s a quite handsome device. The build quality *looks* great, will have to see it in person. Looks like brushed aluminum on the back, very sexy.
I’m all for really sexy hardware. Many will say how lame WinMo standard is, but it’s quite a fast and flexible platform. I almost prefer it to WinMo Pro (touchscreen) for its speed and general lack of having to go into icky old WinCE menus. But the plus side to that is the general openness of the platform, HTC and Samsung have made some really great interfaces on top of it.
anyway, this phone looks the biz, and if it has US 3G i’d be interested. Dunno if it would replace my E71, I guess I’d have to see it to decide.
This is a clean looking device. Very nice. Standard or Pro though??
I am noticing a trend of new windows mobile phones that look and feel a lot like blackberries. I am more of an advanced smartphone type of user, but I can see why people like these. Looks like the keyboard makes emails and text messaging very easy.
