Google Voice opens to the public tomorrow?
This is still definitely at rumor status but according to Cnet’s Natali Del Conte, Google plans to make its game-changing service Google Voice open to the public tomorrow, June 18th. During the 999th episode of Cnet’s Buzz Out Loud podcast, Del Conte responded to an anxious caller seeking info about the public availability of Google voice. According to Del Conte, her contact at Google emailed her several weeks ago while she was testing the service and pinned June 18th as the official public launch date. Ever since its previous life as GrandCentral, the service has been widely acclaimed by its beta users and the public has been dying to get its hands, or mouths, on it ever since. The service had been invite-only when independantly owned but Google slammed the doors and killed the invite system as soon as it aquired the service. Well people, according to Cnet the wait is almost over. Woo!

They should give you an account if you buy the iPhone app. I am looking forward to giving this a try.
Hot dayum.
I was lucky enough to have a Grandcentral account and be one of the lucky few who had immediate access to google voice when it came out. I can tell you first hand that the product is fantastic.
I can see google moving towards a mobile solution that will not require the help of any of the carriers. They already have the spectrum, the ability to design the infrastructure and the money to make it all happen.
Goole is taking over the world.
Let’s hope this proves true. I can’t wait!
From a happy Google Voice account holder, Google must have settled with Klausner and we’re good to go for new numbers!
best news I have heard all day woot woot!!
Woot, just made my day if true
Something is afoot… i have been getting choppy audio on GV all day
I’ve had a Grand Central account from the first few weeks. Its not all that great if you ask me. You guys shouldn’t waste your time with it.
I’m joking google voice is freakin great!!!!
I’ve had an invitation sitting in my inbox and never took advantage of it. The last thing I need is telling my contacts that I have another phone number.
To be useful to the majority of the population, it needs to do the opposite–give your existing phone number online functionality. That won’t happen, because carriers are not crazy to hand the stranglehold they have on customers over to Google.
Even if Google Voice finally gets number porting, that won’t do people any good unless they’re willing to part with their provider forever. Without universal wifi, I don’t see that happening either.
So yeah, a nice toy, but not quite enough to shake up the telecom kingdom.
Yeah, GV is pretty darn good. Still though, I actually prefer that I’m unreachable by some people on certain numbers.
Just set up some filters on GV. You can make it send calls only to certain numbers.
as long as I’m able to change my grand central, now google voice, number from an east coast area code to something more local to me now, I’m all for it!
OMG !!! This is something I have been REALLY REALLY excited about
Please Canada, be apart of this !
What a bunch of crap. I have had a GC account for a long time. And while I never use it I got pretty excited when I saw the GV demos. I wa checking every day for the update. Finally got it last week…and now its going public ??!!!. I wonder if they waited so long since I had such little GC activity? Oh well..still crap..anyway, Go Google!
I have an old grand central account i never use it im not sure what all the fuss is about ..I converted it to a google talk account but i am still lost as what i should use it for
Well, Engrudget would you be so kind as to share it with someone (me
) that could?
False report.
Craig Walker, head of Google Voice, says this report is incorrect.

Umm still not working (ET 6/18)
hope it comes out soon!!!
Remember, this is still just a rumor. There is one positive thing happening, however. The Beta tag has been removed from the header. Could happen, but I’m not holding my breath.
Still waiting in CST. =\ I can’t wait to integrate with my G1.
I use the youmail application pretty successfully. VM transcriptions are not free on youmail.
Can someone with expertience with both fire off a bare-bones comparison?
Very Truly Yours,
Conrad P. Hernandez
Uh.
Better reporting would have been if you had included at least one freaking line about what it is/does.
Truer question is when is number portability coming?!
Yes, according to this article, they’re currently testing number porting with a select group and it is coming very soon:
