It’s got to be those cheap netbooks that they’re quoting to get the 12 percent increase. Break it down by computers selling for more than $700 and see what the numbers look like.

And who cares about numbers in this market. It’s profits that really show the health of a company. And investors seem to finally be figuring out that Apple is actually better off than their competition, even if the current economic situation is hurting just a teeny bit.

Once things turn around, watch Apple market share grow at double the pace of PCs as they have for the previous four or five years before the economic crisis.

For the past few years, apple’s shares and sales are always down around this time, because people are waiting for the new models to come out … be it the iphone or laptops.

By the end of the summer and start of fall, we’re going to see articles about how sales are up and they are gaining market share … this happens every year.

With apple announce price cuts and the release of Snow Leopard with exchange support, we are probably going to see better sales numbers than usual.

@Doug…I don’t think that would be right…seeing as in the end…it’s still a phone and MP3 player.

If that’s the case…Windows should add their smartphone shipments also. =\

And to the one who said revenue is better than market share. You’re right and wrong. Revenue is better stockholders and company. But for us (the ones who don’t see any monetary return) market share is more important. The more market share one has, the more that becomes the norm; default.

If Apple had just 40% market share, the capability, compatibility, and revenue would be higher than Mt. Kilimanjaro! LOL

And also…Apple has no viruses like Windows because…well…look at market share, LOL
You try to hack things to get information. When roughly 90% of computer users are using Windows…why would you waste your time trying to make hacks and viruses for the very very VERY minuscule user base of any other OS.

The PC shipments being up are based on including the $200-$500 netbooks into the unit mix. I’d think that if you wanted a more accurate judgment you would need to include iPod Touches and iPhones into the mix as they have much of the same capability as the netbooks and Apple has said as much. Someone needs to define “PC unit shipments” better. To be a PC you need to have a screen larger than???? You must include a physical keyboard???? You must support a resolution greater than???

Historically price has been used to define the difference between micro computers, workstations, mini computers, and mainframes. Maybe that is the most accurate way still today? What ever the case, Apple shipment are much beter when you look at traditional laptops.

Windows 7 will be the death nell of Apple.

Apple has no answer to the sub-$300 netbook either and it only has an iPod that makes phone calls whereas BlackBerrys have had multitasking OSs for years.

Apple have always been ovberpriced and under functioned and I hope that they will finally go away forever – soon.

Revenue up is more important than market share as you can tell from watching Nokia and Dell’s share price. Please let’s not have any more talk about Atom-powered netbooks. They’re the little cockroaches of normal laptops. You just want to stomp them, but they still keep coming back. Little under-powered critters only good for scavenging other’s droppings. I can’t wait for them to go away. Spray them with some Apple iTablet Raid.

I don’t believe we will see Mac’s market share increase much when it comes to computers unless they start taking a lower budget approach. If they continue to sell “high-end,” high priced computers, their market share will be stagnant and continue to drop since everyone who wants a mac probably already owns one and doesn’t need another.

Mac market share is down a little. PC makers are flooding the market with ‘below cost’ cheepo netbooks to gain market share. Is that a great way to make/lose money?

Get a Mac and be free of ‘accept or deny’ , viruses, etc.

I was eyeballing Macs when I was shopping for a new system a couple of weeks ago. The Macbooks look nice, but I just couldn’t see the need to fork over the extra $$ for a desktop system.

Picked up the “new” 13″ MacBook Pro last night. Can’t say I’m regretting it yet.

Yeah, my notebook is crafted from a solid block of aluminum. You could say it’s pretty sturdy.
