Samsung announces two more additions to the Omnia family: Omnia II and Omnia LITE
Samsung is just unstoppable today, having announced more new phones in just the past few hours than some companies announce in a year. Two Omnia Pros, a Jet for good measure and now we’re introduced to the Omnia II (I8000) and Omnia LITE (B7300). Starting with the more exciting of the two handsets, the Omnia II will be Sammy’s successor to the popular to the Omnia as we’re sure you guessed. Specs are as follows:
- Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional (upgradable to 6.5)
- Massive 3.7-inch WVGA AMOLED touchscreen display
- TouchWiz 2.0 UI
- Advanced R Touch (Resistive Touch) that “enables faster, more accurate touch response”
- 480p video recording and playback
- HSUPA 5.76Mbps, HSDPA 7.2Mbps
- Wi-Fi
- Up to 48GB of storage
Wow. Ok, now let’s have a look at the scaled down Omnia LITE:
- Full touchscreen form factor
- TouchWiz 2.0
- 3 megapixel camera
- Push email support
- Microsoft Office Suite
- Full HTML Opera Web browser
- HSDPA
- Wi-Fi
- A-GPS
Samsung obviously wanted to focus on the more capable Omnia II so as you can see, not much substance was offered as far as the Omnia LITE is concerned. Both handsets appear to be very solid offerings however, and will certainly likely be well received be their respective target demographics. Release timing and pricing are not yet available, though the Omnia II will be offered by Verizon Wireless some time this year.
So why does the Omnia II look exactly like the Jet from the last article?
@Peter – if you don’t take notice to the little details, yes, it does look the same. But, it’s not the same. Look closer and you can see the difference.

this whole thing is odd, you got 10 devices by now that’s now dubbed “the omnia family” and actually one of then is called Omnia II. it certainly looks like that all these labels, names aren’t final, come release time, you’ll see many revisions

Damn,the II is sweet as hell. I wish ATT had this. It looks like Big Red will actually have a decent phone for a change.

So…did Samsung leave out the CDMA 1xEV Rev. A by accident, or is Verizon Wireless set to launch an HSPA overlay network later this year?
*IF* Verizon really is launching HSPA domestically ahead of 4G (and that’s a BIG if) then you can pretty much bet the farm that an iPhone 3GS will be coming to Big Red soon. But I think it’s 99% more probable that Samsung neglected to include EVDO Rev.A in the spec list.

Mark my words,Iphone will be on Verizon a year from now. Iphone 4.0 will have new hardware too. Big Red won’t rape the phone like ATT has.
The Samsung Unpacked phone is simply the Samsung Jet. By the way, Samsung has updated their Omnia Website (www.omnia.samsungmobile.com) and has added the phones that are just released, but you can’t click on them yet…
so will the omnia II have a physical qwerty keyboard?
So does the OminaII and the OminaPro (W/Touch Screen) have the 800mhz processor of the Jet?

Omnia II won’t have a keboard but another omnia version will.
The B7320 will have a keyboard like most other smart phones.

Yeah I noticed that too, and I was feeling skeptical. The only thing I could think of is Samsung is making a Verizon version inaddition to the HSPA one. Just like the original omnia. I’m betting that Verizon would not allow samsung to list the specs for the Verizon version.
So I’m skeptical if there even is a Verizon version, but we’ll find out later this year I guess.
Why are the widgets so massive on the touchwiz look at the weather icon it takes over 1/4 of the screen that is way to big the widgets need to be reduced in size to the same size as the ones on SPB mobile shell 3.
We want proper reduced sized Widgets Now, or the option to reduce the size.

Wow!!! The Omnia Pro and the Omnia Lite… these full touch screen phones are absolutely beautiful. Both are upgradeable to windows mobile 6.5 so that is awesome. I can’t imagine how great this phones will run and look with the 6.5 upgrade. My favorite theme is Titanium so far. I also think the new widgets api that was delivered in 6.5 is going to open a ton of new ideas and apps.
