Rogers / Fido no-contract iPhone 3G S pricing revealed, eh

When Apple announced the upcoming iPhone 3G S earlier this month, we posted a quick little synopsis of info available to would-be 3G S owners up in Canada. Our Canadian readers thanked us, and then promptly threatened violence lest we do everything in our power to dig up contract-free pricing on Apple’s new kit. Not wanting to anger the Canadian people we got to digging and thankfully, one of our ninjas just came through with some tasty screen shots from Best Buy. According to the major retailer’s inventory system, Rogers and Fido customers are looking at no-contract pricing of $799.99 for the 32GB version and $699.99 for the 16GB version. A bargain at twice the price… Umm, or something like that. Hit the jump for screenshots of the Rogers 16GB iPhone 3G S in Best Buy’s inventory (32GB is above) along with the 16GB and 32GB models from Fido.

And people complained about expensive unlocked Nokia phones.

The iPhone 3Gs are not even unlocked at $700 (16GB) and $800 (32GB).

Considering I paid $600 for my first iPhone in ‘07, this doesn’t sound crazy.

Sprint says no contract price for my Curve 8330 is $569. $800 for a 32GB iphone is about right. i was at best buy on friday and they sell almost all phones with no contract and most smartphones were in the $500 to $700 range

Would it not be cheaper to sign a 2 or 3 year contract and get the phone for $299 or $399 and then cancel the contract. Fido still charges $20 a month to a max of $200 for early cancelation. This way you could get it for a no contract price of $499 or $599, a little more in line I should think.

trypleight, cancelling a contract with Fido or Rogers is a maximum of $400, not $200. It’s been like this for years now. The only exceptions are people who are still on very old plans/contracts from before they switched it to $400.

This is ridiculous! I “was” eligible to upgrade in February though the hardware upgrade program for about $100 more that $299 – THEN then changed the program to 24 Months so now I can’t get anything. What is really dirty here is that when I did my last upgrade, they told me that I could upgrade every year!! They changed the rules to benefit themselves. The devices to NOT cost this much and we are on 3 year contracts.

Lets get them back, once tethering is enabled, everyone should connect and max out our 6 gig plans and take down the network!!!

Best Buy out-right prices are a joke. Always inflated by at least $200, wasn’t the Pre here in the US like $799 out-right? ….yeah, about that.

I just talked to Rogers rep today.

Turns out If you want to Cancel your rogers plan and get a new plan…

The penalty will be the following:

    1. $400 for the voice plan
    2. $100 for the data plan (if you have a blackberry or an iphone)
    3. 1 month cancellation fee….

Basically, you are looking at about $650 after tax just to cancel the plan…. SOB!

This is AMAZING pricing when you think about it a bold is 699. With no contract. It is about same price to cancel. 179 for 16gb plus 500 cancellation fee. Remember 100 for cancelling data. Or 400 but the price of the phone will be higher I believe 230 if your price plan is 35 or lower. Ahhh all the rules I have to learn. Anyways, we were speculating in our store the price would be over a grand. So this is a big shock. Don’t expect it to be lower…. Higher maybe.

799 is not bad really.. seing that I have the Iphone 3GS, i would just sell it (unlocked and jailbreaked) for around 500… so I’m relly only paying 300 for it…
its 200 on a 3 year contract so for me this is a great deal!
