Rogers / Fido no-contract iPhone 3G S pricing revealed, eh

When Apple announced the upcoming iPhone 3G S earlier this month, we posted a quick little synopsis of info available to would-be 3G S owners up in Canada. Our Canadian readers thanked us, and then promptly threatened violence lest we do everything in our power to dig up contract-free pricing on Apple’s new kit. Not wanting to anger the Canadian people we got to digging and thankfully, one of our ninjas just came through with some tasty screen shots from Best Buy. According to the major retailer’s inventory system, Rogers and Fido customers are looking at no-contract pricing of $799.99 for the 32GB version and $699.99 for the 16GB version. A bargain at twice the price… Umm, or something like that. Hit the jump for screenshots of the Rogers 16GB iPhone 3G S in Best Buy’s inventory (32GB is above) along with the 16GB and 32GB models from Fido.

@Kevin: “Lets get them back, once tethering is enabled, everyone should connect and max out our 6 gig plans and take down the network!!!”

Right, because that will cause Rogers to drop their pricing. Aside from interupting our service, all that taking down the network will do is increase our future pricing when Rogers needs to spend money to upgrade.

The best protest is (sadly) not to buy it. Or wait until Bell and Telus go GSM and prices drop like the underwear of a drunk girl on prom night.

At these prices anyone who recently purchased a 3G and is upgrading to the 3GS is either A) Very wealthy or B) Under the impression that Apple has been turned into a charity because you are essentially donating money to them for no reason

I had an iphone 3g like 3 months after it came out, i had it stolen, so i had to cancel my plan. They make you pay 4 months + 400 + the iphone so its around about $1100.

I just talked to a Fido AND Rogers’ representative each today. They both claim that there is NO retail pricing at this moment for iphone 3G S. Sometimes I wonder whether they are slow in terms of information or they are just simply USELESS…

hey, Fido & Rogers took down the info where they said they would offer a no-contract iPhone. My guess is that they were just fucking with us and teasing us for wanting one. anyway, any updates from other sources about this? I’m pretty sure the info from a keithmcarthur was available a few days ago…

ROGERS or Bell are the biggest ripoff in the WORLD!!!!

3 YEARS plans and YOUR VOICE PLAN MUST BE over $33 dollars for you to get the 199 or 299 price even if you are eligible. they have the highest and most expensive plan rates on the planet and they treat the costumer like crap. they make rules when ever they want and keep adding prices when ever they want. its just so ridicules that there is not much options in Canada they charge customers fees that can not be explained System access fee and so many other little charges here and there. guys we have to do something about it. their rules are getting painfully ridicules day by day and we are accepting it, LETS DO SOMETHING PLEASE

    Michael says:

Okay, so it seems to me to make more sense to purchase the (inflated) price. For me, with Fido, it is $400 to cancel contract (9 months into my 3 year contract now with a cheap crap phone), then $299 for the phone = $699. For $100 more I get the phone without an extra year on my contract and can still keep my $17.95/month 250min. voice plan with Fido.

I get tired of phones quickly and will likely want a new one anyway. This way, I’m just two years away from another new phone!

    Bryan Leitao says:

this is a reply to cogito, if you get a 3 year plan and you lose or break the phone, your gunna have to pay around 700 dollars, if you get the no contract, if you lose or break it you dont pay that because you already did, its like you can do whatever you want with it get minutes whenever you want no friggin plan thats 60 dollars a month, its like paying the phone every month!!

As Fido and Rogers are Canadian cellphone companies, the prices are listed in the Canadian Dollar.

    Gautam Rao says:

OK guys … here is how you can get an iphone 3G S 16GB for $300.
First make sure you have been a loyal customer with a decent amount of revenue so that you can get the iPhone 3G S for $199.
Now you have an iPhone 3G S for $199 … and monthly $30 payments for 6GB data. Dont want the data?
Go ahead and cancel the data after 1 month … NOT your talking plan.
Data Cancellation charges: $5 per mo. to a max of $100.
Voice Plan Cancellation: up to $400.

So you will be left with an iPhone 3G S 16GB for $199 + $100 and your old Talk plan locked on for 3 years. Make sure you disable 3G network though!

    Anthony Baird says:

On top of this they have bad upgrade policies. When you sign a contract your locked in. So, you can’t upgrade at anytime eg. 3G to 3GS without the same buying full iphone!

The FIdo network doesn’t support a Long distance Canada Long Distance and Fido-to-Fido phone calls on same a phone plan (stupid Bell is more flexible , but I dumped them because of there douche customer service)… Maybe Telus?
