Everyone, seriously calm down. This is about preference. About using your device to complete tasks and have fun. I like BB. I love Nokia. They offer me choice. 3.5mm headjack, necessity. 3G is a nice feature even if you don’t have unltd data, from my little bit of knowledge 3G voice is better for clarity than EDGE. It is a phone afterall.

come on my friend, developing world does not mean we do not have 3g networks okay? here in South East Asia, especially in Indonesia, people have started using 3g everywhere. but its so sad that in Singapore its still too expensive..

Jesus! BGR, stop bitching about lack of 3G support on phones. There are a lot of people who don’t want to pay for a data plan but do want some high end features. I have an E71 and have never used 3G on it but love all the other high end features when I am connected to WiFi at home or work. The built in GPS/Maps works pretty well without a data connection (as opposed to Google Maps)

I simply don’t need and don’t want to spend extra money for 3G connectivity if I don’t need it.

Thanks Nokia for offering choice in the marketplace (unlike Apple).

I was at the event in Singapore, and yes, the 5530 has a resistive touchscreen. It’s not a bad device IMO, a lot sleeker than the 5800. What gets me excited though is that the E72 has Lotus Notes Traveller pre-installed, yay!

Wild Homes, yes, I understand they are both under 10mm anyway. But honestly, I have been wishing Nokia would make a replacement for the E61i that is the same width, which is why I have yet to get rid of that phone. So I guess it is just wishful thinking that the E72 might be as close as I can get for now cos I really need to change my phone, but keep holding off hoping for a miracle from Nokia.

Anif, you’re right that there is a difference between .1mm and 2.5mm… but to be honest, there’s really not a LOT of difference. Both phones are over TEN MILLIMETERS narrower than the E61i. Surely the (very slight) difference in width present in the E72 isn’t going to make much (if any) difference? I don’t mean to call you out, but it sounds like utter bullshit.

First of, I meant in comparison to the E61i…the E61i is a noticeably wide phone. Go to the Nokia website abd view the specs for yourself. The E72 is 59.5mm, the E71 is 57mm and the E61i is 70mm. So why don’t you get your facts right.

Regarding the quote from the article about the 5530, “…are 3G radios that expensive?” The answer is no, but the monthly fees to take advantage of them certainly are. You are talking anywhere from $25 to $80 per month depending on the carrier and how much data you get. And don’t forget that many of the so-called unlimited plans from carriers are unlimited up to 5 or 10gb of data and then they charge outrageous overage fees.

For many people this is not something they need or want, especially when folks are worried about whether they will keep their jobs. On the other hand, the convenience of having a device that can act as phone, music player, camera, contact mgmt and browse the web when wi-fi is available is appealing, since they only incur voice service costs after they buy the device.

Sorry Apple and AT&T, but not everyone is ready to buy an Iphone and spend $80 every month.

I have been waiting for a replacement to my E61i for a very looooooooong time. This might finally be it. I didn’t like the E71 cos the width was too small. The E75 was ok, but for a slideout, the should have made it full screen. I liked the N97, but I think they released it too late. Moreover, I prefer the Nokia E-Series phones. This E72 might just been what I’ve been waiting for.

You failed to mention anything in your article the very important fact that the 5530 is the cheaper, non-3G version of the 5800/Tube. That’s an important little tidbit of information as to its creation.

Guess what Americans? It’s not all about you!

There are plenty of places in the world (India is a good example) where 3G is very limited, and people can’t afford iPhones and Blackberries. So the decision to leave 3G out makes a hell of a lot of sense.

If you do live in a rich country with an awesome 3G network (USA is NOT a good example) then get an N97 or a 5800

I love my Blackberry and am looking forward to the Tour also, but gott damn, it’s not the end of all Blackberry’s – there will be more and better ones, OK?

Besides that, I will definitely buy the E72.
