Didn’t pre-order an iPhone 3G S? You might have to wait about two weeks
We got a tip from one of our most-trusty ninjas earlier this morning about this, but we’ve now also got a screenshot from someone else, too. To make a long story short, if you did not pre-order an iPhone 3G S from AT&T yet, (we’re not talking about Apple because we don’t have information on their pre-ordering/stock levels, etc) your iPhone 3G S won’t be shipping to you/your store until “7-14 days” after the order date. It seems that all AT&T’s pre-order stock is depleted leaving only iPhone 3G Ss for dying-in-line purchasing on this coming Friday, and all pre-orders going forward won’t be fulfilled until after the June 19th launch date.

i wonder if at&t is going to do a step up like they did with the Gen 1 iphone, that would rock my iphone 3g is looking a bit rough.
I have to say that verizon has a great network here in the greater boston area, and mediocore phones. That is why after ten years this summer I will be leaving verizon and getting a better phone, the iphone 3GS reserved it today at best buy.
I ordered my 3GS from the Apple Store the day it was announced. I’m supposed to receive it before June 19.

Just ordered iPhone 3GS 32GB black from Apple online. It still says it will be delivered by June 19th. No wait on the pre-order process so far.
So let me as this question…How does someone (like myself) that got a 3G iPhone back in October get the new 3GS, seeing how I signed a 2 year contract and am not eligible for an upgrade discount until at least my first year is up?
@X: Easy, game the system. My line wasn’t eligible without paying $200 more, and as much as it’s been defended I don’t wholly agree with the amount, $75 – $100 more seems more reasonable. So I used another line on my plan, to get the 3G S and will be using my old 3G on that line. Then when the “next” iPhone comes out, I can then use my plan to upgrade to that.
I got notification from Apple.com that mine shipped this morning, shipping UPS and it’s shipping from China.
AT&T’s network is slow, the iphone can’t multitask and is very slow compared to the pre switch to sprint and get a pre.
I also upgraded my 14 days old 3G to 3G S yesterday. But was noticed that I have to wait 7-14 days AFTER finishing the pre-order process. Then I went to apple online and use my number to preorder one. The problem is, then I went back and want to cancel my AT&T pre-order, they won’t let me do that. They said I have to wait until get the item in store then I can “refund” back to them but can’t cancel the pre-order.
Is it right? I never heard that the pre-order (hasn’t shipped) item can’t be canceled…What Can I do now? (Apple store can be cancelled) Should I cancel the apple store preorder and wait 7-14 days? Or get the iphone from apple first, then when I get the order from AT&T, don’t open it and return immediately?
The question is, how come they allowed me to pre-order in two different place but using the same phone number?
Ok, I got the final answer. If you preorder the iphone 3G S from AT&T after 6/13 and in the 7-14 days window. You can not cancel the preorder. But you can order from Apple store online (You can still get it on 6/19) first. Then when the AT&T store gets your order, you physically go in store then cancel it. (No extra charge).
So, if you can’t wait 7-14 days, then go to apple store online to order one now. And cancel the pre-order later at AT&T store.
I ordered the 3G S on June 11th by adding another line to my account. I pay $50 month for unlimited internet and text, and you can get the iphone date plan and text for $44 a month. With the $10 a month fee for adding another line, its only $4 extra dollars a month for the 3G S. Totally worth it, try it if your not eligible for the upgrade and can’t wait.
I’m not sure when I will receive it, bout it from AT&T. They said it was in progress. I got a feeling I won’t get it by Friday. What do you think?
