When you guy a new computer, is it just STRAIGHT Microsoft Windows on it? Or does it come with more? In fact, doesn’t the average user get annoyed at all the pop-ups and trial offers when you buy a new computer? Where do these programs come from? The factory. Dell says “Hey, I want to preload the computer with Roxio” and POOF, as if by magic (at least, according to the logic in these comments) Roxio installs whenever you reload Windows on your PC. If you actually read the story, it says manufacturers now have the ability to CHOOSE which browser comes boxed with their system.

Seriously, stop flipping out people. Whoever said this is just having people make a choice that they don’t want to make, wake up. It’s the manufacturer’s choice to make, not yours, not the peoples.

Did you completely skip over the sentence that allows the MANUFACTURER to install the web browser of their choice?

Where does it say CONSUMER’s choice? Where?

Where does it go into specifics about purchasing the software alone?

The entire story is in regards to purchasing a PC w/ pre-installed Windows 7. It says nothing nor hints at anything about buying Windows 7 by itself and what those options are.

The only comments I’ve read that had any value were the ones stating Macs shouldn’t come w/ it’s browser as well. Makes sense.

This is not the only stupid decision they’ve made either and as the sentiment goes…the same should apply to Apple, McDonalds, Linux, Burger King, Dell, HP, BMW, Mercedes, Adobe and just about every other big name you can think of. Why does one have to install Adobe reader to run certain adobe programs when they can just get an alternate from online? Why can’t I buy a BMW without an engine or even BMW rims and go to a third party and purchase them cheaper there?

The point is if a company has a product it only makes sense for them to give it to their consumers along with all their other products. Not only is it easier on the consumer, who doesn’t no anything about trying to get another brower without a brower already present or going to look for a new reader that is not made by Adobe, but it is logical. But Apple still has Safari on their computers, along with Garage Band, Itunes and Quicktime. If that’s the case then get rid of all of those and just provide the OS bare bones.

Honestly if I was MS I wouldn’t mind releasing Windows in Europe and I would pull all the ones I have off their shelves and let’s see how they fare without it. That would probably be the most devastating scenario….EVER…because as far as the internet has come, no one can get to it without the OS and the EU needs to realize this symbiotic relationship and stop with their retarded rules.

For the people complaining about apple bundling safari you have a point but linux is different (unless you are talking KDE and konquerer) because firefox is not a product of linux.

Last, MS is screwed either way. they don’t bundle and people can’t get online, if they do they get sued by the EU, and now might get forced to promote their competitors if the EU gets its way. If this happens they (firefox, chrome, and esp Opera) should have to cover the cost of programming and pay MS fr the advertising.

Your average consumer has no clue what the difference is between Internet Explorer, Firefox, Opera, etc. They just want it to be easy to use. The EU has gone and made things more difficult to consumers by forcing upon them choices that they don’t need to make.

The consumers that actually give a damn about what browser they use know how easy it is to use Internet Explorer to go download their software of choice.

Where is the monolpolistic practice in all of this? Does Windows force you to use Internet Explorer? Can you not freely download whatever you choose? Should we not be thankful that Microsoft includes a browser in their OS so we can easily download whatever other software we want?

What’s next? How many 3rd party solutions are there that handle things that Windows already does to some extent? Are all those programs being unfairly screwed over by MS?

Should Microsoft sue Apple, Blackberry, Nokia, etc. for including their OS on their phones – not giving the consumer the fair choice to install Windows Mobile?

It seems to me as though those greedy EU morons see Microsoft making a ton of money and dominating the market and want a piece of the $$$$$ pie.

Go fix the real problems in this world and stop screwing over Microsoft for no reason.

All you have to do is to open “Control Pannel – Remove Programs – Windows Components” and deselect EI. It’s that easy to get rid of EI from your Windows machine.

A good question was asked here – does it mean Apple should remove Safari? Sounds like a fair statement to me.

Please make sure Safari is not included on iPhone too. It seems mighty monopolistic that 100% of iPhones use Apple’s browser and not the competition.
