iPhone 3G S gets unboxed early, not a whole lot going on

The folks over at iTalkiPhone have picked up an iPhone 3G S early and have unboxed it for all to see. Of course, there really isn’t a whole lot to see since it looks almost exactly like its predecessor save for a couple engraved markings. We were also hoping that it would be like other unboxing sessions where pictures of the contents would be taken, but it’s only the phone and the box. If anything looks different, the bezel seems a little more prominent than the iPhone 3G (it even pops a little on the box image), but it could also be the lighting conditions. We’re just a week away from the launch of iPhone 3.0 OS and the new device, so maybe these pics will inflame that spark you have inside for new, shiny toys.

Thanks, Taylor!

    Since apple didn’t add many new features to this iPhone , it shouldn’t be a problem for RIM to come out with something better.

    I’ve owned both the iPhone 2G and the 3G versions. I think I’m done.

    The form factor is what grabs most of the users globally and to be honest it’s starting to get a bit overplayed. Now that all the 16 year olds have it for some reason its lost its luster.

    When I first got the iPhone, I was the only one in my circle to have it. Everyone ooohed and ahhhed. Now, it’s just like the RAZR – only smarter.

    I’m really digging the MyTouch by HTC. I want something different with both beauty and brains.

    @Danny

    If you buy a phone based on how others view you and your new device, you have bigger problems than trying to find the best phone.

    You buy a phone based on what you need or want. Not based on your friends congratulating you every time they see you because you own an iPhone or Blackberry.

    Storm??? Obviously everyone putting out their storm propoganda have not used the iphone in comparison with the storm! I have a storm for business and an iphone for personal and their is absolutely no comparison! I will give you that the storm is an email powerhouse but that is the only notch the storm has on its belt. The iphone 3G (let alone it’s 3GS upgrade) is hands down a much better device in all other aspects! Its pretty clear this site is loaded w/VZ employees trying to secure commissions! Good luck, you will need it!

    I don’t know what form factor changes people expected. Unlike a BB, there’s no keypad design to change, or screen size to alter. The iPhone’s design couldn’t be improved at this juncture.

    What did change is the guts. RAM doubled/65 nano chipset with 50% more Umph/a huge graphic upgrade…everything you’d want.

    App developers have a problem though. The new iPhone is the PS3, while the old one is the Wii with those graphics issues.

    I have a 3g I-phone and a BB bold and I must say the I-phone is a better product. But I will not upgrade to the 3gs I-phone. I will wait to next June when my contract is up. Aplle may have something better in the next 12 months. The new 3gs is not worth an early upgrade.
    Reading some of the comments from anti I-phone people makes me laugh. They remind me of people who live in there mothers basement Who dont have a life and spend 15 hours or more a day on there P.C.

    People its just a phone.

    Some of you guys crack me up. How many different variations of the Blackberry Curve is out? Can’t you see what this device and company are trying to do? Dominate all markets. Period. Business Medical Consumer. Do you realize how far they have gotten in just 3 years? With most cell phone companies making phones for at least 10 years and they are behind and you know this. It’s about carrying one device and ease of use. I will admit though software wise this 3.0 should have been 2.3 we all know this. Many features were missing. Some still are. But what you are asking Apple to do is ridiculous. Why would they redesign so fast and they still selling. This is the exact reason this world is in the position it is right now because most people are never satisfied. Who really is pushing them but Pre? Not Blackberry? Apple stays in they lane. I’m not a fan boy just had this 3g about a year it’s the only product I have from them. Even if this device did it all you would find some fault with it. All cellphone companies are being forced to step it up now. So really it’s great for everyone. So call it what you want a toy a POS they should have did more whatever you like. Come next week the damn lines are gonna be around the corner. Name one phone that has done that consistently since the Rzr. Think about it and I will wait? LOL.

    @John
    “@MasterMason

    Where do you think that ~10% came from? It came mostly from Symbian and Win Mo.”

    Do you realize that Nokia hasn’t had any major device releases since 2007? Besides the E71, which has been a big seller, I might add, the iPhone has been competing with a Nokia flagship that is 2 years old in the N95x series, which greatly outsold the 2 iphone versions that have been released in the same time. (The N96, called the flagship as well, was a hardware downgrade with added storage and a tv tuner.) Now let’s see who sells more devices with an identical release date, the iPhone GS or the N97.
    The Pre will eat up alot of the iPhone sales, as will all of the Android devices coming out, all of which are multitasking devices like the N97. The N97 will set international sales records like the N95x’s did, as the globe expects. Its just not in the same class, and no one is fooled anymore.

    Now let’s talk marketshare when Nokia releases 6 more touchscreen devices in the next 6 months, and expect an N97 upgrade with more storage, memory and possibly a better screen, as they did with the N95 8gb. Apple won’t go much higher than 14% marketshare with all of the competition, and that’s assuming that Nokia doesn’t get a carrier partner for the N97, 5800 XM, N86 and the subsequent touchscreen devices coming out.
    Apple better worry about the Sony Ericsson Satio, too. They have competition in the US even without Nokia…

    The whole point that you imbeciles cant grasp is the iphone has 10.7 market share with one device!!!! Symbian, win mo , BB have multiple devices all over the world with multiple price ranges and been established for years. ONE PHONE showed up and in a matter of a few years took almost 11 % of the market and on limited carriers. Example HTC touch pro 2 available on every US carrier, the iPhone ONLY AT%T. I use the American market because it is one of the biggest!! If iPhone was lets say on even just 2 networks here like VZW and AT&T that market share would almost double imagine if all four had it? PS I dont wanna here you VZW sycophants saying that if the iPhone was available to you you would still chose storm or tour!! That’s laughable at best. The only reason you all tout these devices now is because you can’t have THE iPhone!

    It amazes me that my Pre can run just as smoothly and as fast as my last iPhone did and that’s on the Pre’s 1.x OS build. Oh and its browser runs quicker than the iPhone did over WiFi. I can just imagine what future OS upgrades will do. I’m just glad the iPhone reign as king of usability is over. Even if the Pre don’t sell more units (which I’m sure it won’t) it still is the first entry into the smartphone world that gives the iPhone a real major run for its money.

    This is a possibility for PALM and the pre! They have a very competitive phone!! The only problem is it will be short lived, When iPhone V4 comes out on LTE and probably on multiple US Carriers from what I am hearing, it will mulititask and have a bunch of new surprises. So 2010 will be like iPhone year one all over again!
