iPhone 3G S gets unboxed early, not a whole lot going on

The folks over at iTalkiPhone have picked up an iPhone 3G S early and have unboxed it for all to see. Of course, there really isn’t a whole lot to see since it looks almost exactly like its predecessor save for a couple engraved markings. We were also hoping that it would be like other unboxing sessions where pictures of the contents would be taken, but it’s only the phone and the box. If anything looks different, the bezel seems a little more prominent than the iPhone 3G (it even pops a little on the box image), but it could also be the lighting conditions. We’re just a week away from the launch of iPhone 3.0 OS and the new device, so maybe these pics will inflame that spark you have inside for new, shiny toys.

Thanks, Taylor!

I’m a gigantic BB supporter, and have used them for about 6yrs now. I must say, I’m leaning towards picking up the 3G s when it drops Fri. When u look at what this device can do, u realize it’s so far ahead of anything RIM has put out. All in all, I’ll say they both are at the top of the game right now, and I’m going to most likely take the apple plunge just to see what all the hype is about!!!

Why are people riding the Tour’s nuts so hard? The specs are no more impressive than any other Blackberry’s specifications. Much like the 3G and 3G-S, the tour is a slightly tweeked Curve 8900 repackaged

Man, the apple iphone and at&t pale in comparison to the Blackberry Storm and the superior network on Verizon Wireless. When is the RIM Blackberry Tour and RIM Blackberry Storm 2 going to come to Verizon Wireless??!?

Seriously the incessant and idiotic anti apple statements make me laugh.
@ Rudy ..really maybe your the turd Apple has sold more iPhones than almost any other phone and has taken a huge chunk of market share from , symbian and Win Mo while those platforms run on more than 100 phones combined. So don’t be jealous because you still have your razr and can’t afford a great phone.
@all the rest the storm2 will be an epic fail like storm one and the tour is just a glorified curve

Millions of morons will line up for it just like they did for the last 2. It’s amazing how Apple can add features that other phones have had for years, voice command & copy/paste, and get people all excited…. So, so sad!

I guess VZ is waiting in the sidelines until the I-mania is over, when the lines around the block of the apple stores will be deserted, and the cable trucks will lower their antennas, and the teens will slowly leave the place and go home, then bing bang! They will unveil the Tour, not that its going to be some groundbreaking stuff on it, but the Blackberry dosent need it, the Blackberry by itself is the ultimate tool in productivity, and Rim is constantly improving on an unfinished product really, where there is always room for improvement. That’s why VZ is probably keeping mum about it, and they talk rather about the flip pearl, until the i-craze will slow, and to get back the attention of the tech world to the Blackberry.
Bottom line, there is easy to see that both apple and Rim are the leaders in mobile networking for the foreseeable future, unless Palm’s WebOS comes out swinging in the month’s, years ahead, with Rim trying to eat into the consumer market with their “push” thing, which has really a promising future with the consumer market, and apple tries their best to come into the enterprise market, which is great for every body.

That “stormfailure” your reffering to is a great seller, it seems you can’t get over the fact that Blackberry is very much in demand, even with the king on the block, (granted, the i-king rules) wait and see the storm is being revamped as we speak, and all disgruntled storm owner’s won’t jump ship so fast.

    @Justin

How is the iPhone not as “fast as the Bold?” Not picking a fight, just actually asking a question. Because even at 400MHz (current iPhone 3G) the iPhone tears the Bold to pieces due to how the OS operates. I mean, murders the Bold on every. single. thing.

Bump the RAM by two, up the CPU to 600MHz and the iPhone 3G S will make the Bold look like a BlackBerry 6230.

Notice how I didn’t say which did a better job performing tasks, but I specifically commented on the speed. RIM could drop in a 1GHz processor and it wouldn’t make that much of a difference. There’s just underlying issues with why the BlackBerry OS will never be super fast without a major redo. Not this 4.3, 4.5, 4.6, 4.7, 5.0 crap — total ground up rewrite. That’s just how it is for better or worse.

    Uh…HUGe market shares being taken???

What shares are YOU looking at? You do understand what HUGE means…right? I’m a lover and hater(hater because of the OS being closed) of the iPhone. But even I know that iPhone has not taken a HUGE chunk of shares from Symbian.

As of Q42008 Symbian commands a whopping 47% of smartphone OS market share, RIM 19.5%, WinMo 12.4%, and Mac OS X Mobile 10.7

Apple may has taking a little piece…but nowhere near a HUGE chunk. Please…use correct terms…

Agreed… was just referring to the processor itself. BlackBerry needs a serious OS revamp to compete with the iphone in that arena.

Gotta agree though, 100% right, the way Blackberry OS operates appearently it uses a large amount of the processor for the push service, and less for the other stuff, they have to tripple the amount of clock speed (i.e. Mhz) to be able to handle the MM stuff of the iphone
